Amazingly you knew exactly what kind of sarcasm im talking about?? This post pretty much solidifies my position- sarcasm of a certain kind is obviously ok - but where is the line to be drawn?
Who said there was a line?

Is sarcasm a worthy Christian attribute? No. So why is there so much of it when someone has a different opinion? Some people need to realize that your attitudes written here are recorded eternally, and they reveal the true heart behind your statements, and that does NOT bode well for you on judgment day. The sarcastic are prideful, thinking they know much, and should humble themselves....REPENT of sarcasm. Its ungodly.
Sounds like someone got their little feelings hurt.

But MY sarcasm isnt hurtful- sometimes i see some sarcasm here that is directly intended to maim if not shame a person into remission- its really gross at times....Like i stated- there are differing types of sarcasm and the type i am pointing at is the intentionally hurtful kind?
Were Paul and Jesus trying to make the other guys feel good?

Sarcasm is more in the tone of the voice than the words said.

Let's call a spade, a spade: sarcasm often gives us license to be lightheartedly hateful. Only I can look inside my heart and determine when I'm honoring God with my sense of humor and when I'm grieving his name. When my sarcasm condemns, judges, shames, or isolates God's image-bearers, I sin against God's cherished craftsmanship. -unknown

You did not state this originally, and in that case I totally agree that sarcasm can be totally hurtful. Of course sometimes a person can say the meanest things in the nicest way as well.

No, but they were using it in a loving manner, not in a manner based only in hope of afflicting and embarrasing someone...the difference is that many people here use it to try and shame or actually hurt the people, or just to be plain mean and condescending. I have seen instances where it was used in a loving way on this site, rare, but i have seen it. Sadly, it is often used to try to cause one to quit posting opposing views when its obvious we are all trying to learn...and that is the hurtful speech im posting about.

Sarcasm? You mean like the following words YOU wrote in another thread?

Now Now- we cant be speaking truth in here, these folks won't stand for it...i happen to agree with you, however...
just remember- every single one that disagrees with you is LOST and knows not the truth. Every last one. Every one of them serves satan...ahem..i mean sin....oh wait- same thing.

That kind of sarcasm, Theservant? You're a fake, phoney and a fraud! (Courtesy of Bob Grant).

You've been exposed for what you really are -- a Pharisaic tare.

If you had made that clarification in the beginning, then you probably wouldn't have gotten the responses that you did. But as it was, you came in with a "throw the baby out with the bathwater" approach.

Of course we should, as believers, speak with holiness and love. But I do feel that sarcasm, if handled correctly, does have its place.

Actually, i think my original post is quite clear on the type of sarcasm i am referring to. The problem also seems to be that many of us cannot see the lines we so often do not need to cross, and if those who so quickly jumped in defense were to actually read the context of my post, instead of overreacting, they would not have replied so hastily. I think the original replies to my post more than adequately reflect what poor attitude i am talking about?

So what is the basic reasoning behind your post? To lovingly teach and admonish? Or to ridicule?

So you think all sarcasm used on this site is the same as Jesus' type? All of the sarcasm here is rooted in love? Because i assure you- every biblical example has a basis in teaching truth and love.

Wow! Young man, how much sense does it make to post that sarcasm isn't a "worthy attribute" and judge others about it when right before you made this post you commented in the "Be Holy" thread:

If that ain't sarcastic, what is? Don't bother justifying it. I'm outta this thread now.
:p *good grief*

I would like to see these examples these people are talking about, because the example of calling the Pharisees hypocrites and broad of vipers is not sarcasm.

Did you see me say in my post what you assume? MEN inspired of God used sarcasm....so tell me...what biblical lesson was taught when Elijah mocked and ridiculed and used sarcastic statements against the prophets of Baal...especially when they all were consumed by the fire of God out of heaven?
