well this is a side note on that verse, but how could that possibly apply to physical reproduction?
I really do not think Paul was aiming for a 'double entendre' as you say
physical incapability would not render better spiritual understanding IMO
You are right... when I thought about it, the hyperbole had a singleness of purpose.

Is sarcasm a worthy Christian attribute? No. So why is there so much of it when someone has a different opinion? Some people need to realize that your attitudes written here are recorded eternally, and they reveal the true heart behind your statements, and that does NOT bode well for you on judgment day. The sarcastic are prideful, thinking they know much, and should humble themselves....REPENT of sarcasm. Its ungodly.
I will admit I've used sarcasm since joining the site after I had written it down.
I say to myself Good Lord why did I stick my foot in my mouth and He says cause I'm to quick to speak slow to think knucklehead...

It is a given in almost every case, when promoted deception is revealed, sarcastic remarks follow. Satan has an agenda that unlearned profession Christians are deceived thereby.

"Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners." 1 Corinthians 15:33
Physician, heal thyself.

Says nothing about it corrupting the faith. . .as do HRM heresies.

Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire:

Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever..

Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains.

At thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away.
Big whoop. Now you're pretending you have grounds to rebuke? How's that working for you? Where have you seen me sarcastically nasty, except on people, like you, who believe you are above all others and the only obedient servant of God's?

And this is neither sarcastic, nor passive aggressive. This is full out aggressive on someone who thinks he IS God.

HIS angels, HIS universe creation, HIS voice, HIS rebuke makes people flee, not your copy-paste passive-aggressive style. I know God, and you're not him.

This is why this isn't working for me. Just makes you look silly and self-righteous.

Funny side note: I kept Willie Wilson's stats in high school six years earlier. (Willie is the batter who swung at the wrong moment. Willie is from Exit 14.

I'm still holding out for the Beatles concert -- all six Beatles at once. Not to worry, I'm not holding my breath.

That was not sarcasm either when Jesus, "and on this rock I will build My church."

Lord Jesus was making a true statement that He is the corner stone of the body of believers in Him, which is the true Church.

Apostle Peter was given the keys of leadership to spread the good news, but he is not the corner stone of our faith or the Church. That is the Lord Jesus Himself !!!
You're right. My chronological order was off. I thought this was the same conversation with Peter right after Jesus forgave him for denounce him. Wrongo. It was before Jesus died. My bad. Sorry.

The NT's response to heresy and false teaching (Judaizing, false gospel, etc.) is not loving support and kindness.
It is condemnation and censorship because its origin is the unholy (unclean) spirit.
sometimes harsh correction is necessary to 'wake someone up', but must always be accompanied
by a loving motive, else it is just 'worldly sarcasm' and is of no profit.

Elin,

you are an amazing person, we have found this to be so after we came to this site and we both have a lot
of respect for you as we do many others here, but, we must never forget the Heart of God and His
pure Holy Love for others, this is our EXAMPLE and duty to all of our Brothers and Sisters -

no doubt, God is a God of Love, and no doubt, God is a Consuming Fire, and He WILL render judgment
according to what ever a man or woman has done, whether it be good or whether it be evil.
Thanks for that, oldie,

I couldn't agree more regarding your counsel. . .keeping in mind that God is both loving and just, and it seems some minimize his awesome justice because it disagrees with human notions of love.

I think we should keep both in mind, for justice is the backdrop of salvation. . .it is from his justice that we are saved, and from which the unsaved need saving by the gospel.

Thanks again for your kind remarks.

Okay...this thread has forced me to go all English teacher on y'all.

People consistently mix up verbal irony (when what is said is the opposite of what is meant) and sarcasm (harsh or bitter derision or irony; a sneering or cutting remark). This is mainly because there's some crossover with these two verbal techniques. However, not all irony is sarcastic (some, for example is based on understatement), and not all sarcasm is ironic.

This also, btw, is where the lovers of "sarcasm" come into conflict with those opposed to it.

At it's heart, SARCASM has a negative bite. It is meant to cut someone down. It's not "teasing" or kind. So, there are lots of people who see the meanness of sarcasm and object to it--for good reason, imo. However, the people who claim to love "sarcasm" are usually not the lovers of derisive, cruel put-downs, but the lovers of VERBAL IRONY. Verbal irony doesn't have the same bite as sarcasm. It *can* be teasing. It might not even be directed at a person. It is often very funny, or pointed in a way to reveal some truth.

Here are examples of both:

Asked on Thanksgiving, "We're having turkey today?" Reply, "DUH!!!" --sarcastic, but not ironic
"Wow! He's the smartest guy in the room." --sarcastic AND ironic
"Your glasses are on your head, Sherlock!" --ironic, but probably not sarcastic unless the tone is really mean
Hero barely escapes building that explodes and says, "Well this is a bit of a mess." --ironic but not sarcastic

So, when people mention that God employs "sarcasm" in the bible, I tend to disagree. I see it as verbal irony...meant to teach a lesson, but not bitter, sneering, or derisive.

For example, (something like this was said by God to Job) "You were there when the heavens were established and the stars were put in to place?" This is both a rhetorical question (with the obvious answer of "no") and some verbal irony meant to remind Job of his place.

Something that is very irritating, that I have seen, and also been unwillingly included in, (more frequently lately) is when a person intervenes and makes a snide comment when they weren't even being addressed in the first place.

I'm referring to this post

I wasn't addressing you Elin, in fact I have you on ignore so that I don't have to read a comment of yours unless I want to. I was commenting according to what others that posted previously. If you hate what I represent, then put me on ignore. How many times have you accused me of shoehorning, straw man, Judaizer, legalist and insinuate consistently that somehow I'm A Hebrew Roots Movement affiliate. I didn't know what that movement even was until I joined CC, and I still don't belong. Never will. Please cease and desist. I haven't ever labeled you or called you names like you have me.

my original post

"Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression." Psalm 19:13

If you present false doctrine, you can expect it to be named and addressed in this forum.

Which does not preclude one from believing and asserting the same doctrine.

. It is plain to see that many here have a huge problem with being adressed in a straightforward manner, with respect. It is also known as ADMONISHMENT. I feel sorry for the pastor who you usurp and ridicule when he tries to guide you to walking a Christlike walk.

Humility defined, IMO, is taking all things in subjection, from all men, and testing the spirit, then, being slow to speak, expose or support it with scripture. Take a page from Jesus' book- and humble yourselves. You have a HUGE problem with the way you speak to people and you need to check your attitudes at the altar. How can you approach the Lord and bring anything to him of value with the hearts you hold? Dont you know the heart is revealed by the mouth? You have blackness and sin within your heart, hatred and animosity have usurped God upon the thrones of your hearts. Repent! Show fruit of the Spirit! Love! Peace! Comfort! Joy! REPENT YOU WICKED TONGUED DEVILS!!

Nothing about this thread was meant to be sarcastic- it was meant to wholly call attention to the manner in which several of you "CC Clique" members react to those who think that ceasing from sin is heretical, or have a different opinion! New members, WHO ARE CHRISTIANS- are full out ridiculed and assaulted by you if they come here and are not yet learned or share differing opinion. I find it disgusting that members here would try and use scripture to defend an ugly problem they have! I am remorseful that i have to speak like this- i would rather speak in love and praise...but i cannot due to your insolence and sickness of heart.

Yet for all of this they would not repent.

In love i ask you to consider your ways before the Lord. Consider the heart that you speak to. Consider the records in heaven that record every last word you speak- as well as the intent of the heart. THE INTENT OF YOUR WORDS WILL CAUSE YOU TO BE SENT TO HELL. Repent.

In the name of Jesus i beg you. Amen.
