Wow! Really long walks with your dog. It's 9 hours later. Kind of hoped to see your story on here after reading this. :D
He's got short legs.

Well, the story is that he very suddenly went deaf. "Nothing we can do.", the vet said, "It just happens when they get old.."

Now, I had prayed for many people, and had seen them healed of all sorts of things. So to pray about this was nothing out of the ordinary for me. Yet, it never crossed my mind. But the more I thought about it, over a week or so, the more I felt that I was just not ready to lose communication with my little Buddy so suddenly.

One day, walking around our lake, I felt so cheated and sad about it, that I began to pray in a desperation I haven't felt in a long time. I just wasn't ready! Then, I just sort of tried to reign myself to it.

By the time we got home (about ten minutes) his hearing had returned -- almost to what it was when he was a puppy. That was well over three years ago, and although it DOES seem to be fading some (like mine) he still hears everything around him. But, I am OK with it happening this way. It's the natural progression of old age.

Maybe to someone else, this isn't such a big deal, now that I actually write it out. But, to me, that was something I almost broke out in my Happy Dance over.

It's okay Jason, it went over your head. lol This isn't something to be debated, its a joke. He had confidence in God's protection then you tell him God may not protect him. So he is like "Wait, what? God might not protect me? *slowly puts pistol in holster*.

PS: I think you killed the joke by now.
'Sok.... I thought it was funny. Especially since I have probably pointed out that same attitude in many of us a dozen times, or more.

How is this about being persecuted for their faith? From what I read, Willie had a fear of being randomly attacked, not for his faith. Honestly, I can't imagine having the feeling of having to carry a weapon with me, even on late night walks. I'm glad you have been delivered of that Willie :)
I've had a mild amount of training (and I instructed), so before the stroke, it wouldn't have crossed my mind unless the odds were so great a pistol might be the only equalizer. But, a stroke will change you in a heartbeat. Things I never gave a second thought became gigantic obstacles, overnight.

Add that to simply being 70, and the world tends to take on a different feel. You realize you aren't very much anymore, and it takes a bit to understand that it is now more important than ever to trust Jesus.

Mama and I don't worry about self defense when we walk our dogs. They are gentle as lambs unless they think that you are going to harm one of us.

Yeah, but Gordy, even though he has a lot of heart, isn't too scary.

Hi All, and praise the Lord. Been away for a while , trying to catch up, and I know God answers prayer when I am reading that jason and willie are talking as brothers in Christ and not as enemies of the Lord or each other, which is just what I was praying about a week ago. Wow, what a Savior, and wow, I really love my brothers in Christ. (I prefer my sisters, but I do love my brothers:) ) Of course, it quickly turned into more controversy, with jokes going over heads (don't duck), and more iron sharpening iron. :) Keep the faith, Blessed are the peacemakers...And God bless you Both Willie and Jason. MAN! I love my brothers! (Now...if I could just find that SISTER...)

When you live in a community where crime is everywhere its hard not to have some kind of protection. Last month I had 2 attempted breakin in one knight, it was very scary and tromatic so I got me a peper spray and the boys sleep with sticks under their beds.

1 Tim 5:8 He that fails to provide for his own house is worse than an infidel.

God will not do for you what you are able to do for yourself. Being robbed, raped or beaten is not necessarily the will of God. So unless the thug is attacking you because of your testimony for Christ you have an obligation to defend yourself. God never told you to go about as a doormat that everyone may walk on you.

Weakness invites trouble.

For the cause of Christ

It's only a 9mm, and I'm still leaving it at home.
SO I am wondering.... If you feel stirred in your spirit that it is necessary to walk your dog at night unarmed as a act of obedient faith.... why have you not also decided to disarm ENTIRELY and dispose of the gun? Shouldn't the same faith for apply across the board vs only to "dog walking"?

I have not read every single post, but I have already told jason there is a difference between a single man alone, and a man protecting wife/mother /family etc.

Even in gov. there is a different office/anointing than a personal walk. police, army ,must carry weapons.

What I have not heard ANYONE address is the "crucified life".We are dead already, and this life has lost most of it's "preciousness" that we once clung to.(supposedly)

IOW,if you really, really get down to the core, why would you not want to die and go home?????
To a sold out saint,to die or suffer wounds is an honor, but it was God that put the Mother Bear ingredient in a family man,or woman.

And btw, once you have had the privilege of raising a drug crazed demon infested son,and gone into gangland and rescued him from tattooed thugs, you can not possibly know the feeling one gets from an ambulance passing by,or the wonderful humbling experience of cops swarming your house about 8 times, and forever destroyed reputation in the neighborhood, and the crescendo climax of two broken fingers after ,one day,I said "I have had about enough of this" and shut him down but for good.....with a broken hand that serves as a reminder for the rest of my life.when they are on drugs, they keep coming at you,and coming at you,and coming at you. I learned my lesson on that kid.Save your hands, use a choke hold.

You can not possibly make this one dimensional in the real world.(family, police, army, schools, etc)

When i get my open carry permit,I am going for the western holster with the .45 long six shooter like the old days.Gonna wear it kinda low, with the lanyard just above the knee. LOL. My current gun is just too powerful. Will make a night at the movie theater more relaxing for all. I will just raise the insurgent from the dead since we will be alone in the theater at that point.

See? Easy?

You have to have a permit for OPEN CARRY???? didn't know there was such a thing. Anyway... yeah I have also ruminated on raising the dead.... but I kinda think God is pretty clear about "if you lose your life in engaging in evil conduct... it is a just consequence"... I mean isn't that the partial deterrent for anyone entertaining ideas about committing evil acts?

Awesome, Willie! That's sooooo amazing of God to care so tenderly like that. ♥ :)

We used to often listen to the morning prayer requests on the radio when my kids were little. One morning, my daughter asked me to call in and request prayer for our sick kittycat. I felt rather awkward asking for prayer for a cat when so many people were calling in for genuinely urgent requests. But I didn't want to hinder my daughter's faith so I called in. The radio announcer chuckled when he read the request over the air as if it was a silly notion. My daughter was thrilled though that the listeners would be agreeing in prayer with her for the cat's healing.

Of course, God healed the cat. And we didn't have to take him to the vet either, which was awesome. He just got better. So I agree with you that it is a very big deal. :)

Trusting God is the life that we live as we walk by faith. Being practical and wise in the midst of adversity within a crooked, evil and perverse world is another. Human depravity can not be trusted and when we have so much of it being expressed in this life according to the course of this world and in certain trends of thinking among all people we should do whatever it takes to utilize caution and protect ourselves when possible. We live to be at peace with all men as much as possible and with those who are not at peace we use caution and should be ready to defend ourselves and others when human depravity takes over the heart. People do strange things strung out on drugs (prescription or illegal) and we should avoid confrontations at all cost unless God leads otherwise. If it is not our cup then we can utilize the sword, but if we do not have a sword then we are not prepared and we lack what is needed. If a believer wants to bear arms. it is not because he does not trust God but instead is walking in wisdom because of the times that we live. If a believer is not going to bear arms because they trust God for protection, then tear your fence down, leave your home and car unlocked and trust God in the same way.
Do we believe? Jesus asked, 'Do you trust me?", He asked, "Who do YOU say that I am?" He knew from where you place your heart comes your reasoning:

"Because the evil god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers. As a result the light of the good news, the radiant glory of the Anointed-- who is the very image of God--cannot shine down on them." 2 Cor. 4:4. [Voice].

Human reasoning is not "Wise." How do we think Satan will keep us blind to God's glory? What is His means to an end? Human reasoning! But when we place our hearts in Christ, and "Receive" Him our human reasoning shifts, for the Holy Spirit always points up!

"While we live in these earthly bodies , we groan and sigh, but it's not that we want to die and get rid of these bodies that clothe us. Rather, [Here is the shift upwards..] we want to put on our new bodies so that these dying bodies will be swallowed up by life. God Himself has prepared us for this, and as a guarantee He has given us His Holy Spirit. 2 Cor. 5:4-5.

As we live out the Spiritual reality of life we shift in our thinking to eternal value vs. temporal. Our merit comes in eternal things. Our rabbit is in our hearts aimed over the horizon not in front of us. Yet, as the passage says, for sake of sacrifice, but for sake of reality.

2 Cor. 5:6 says, "...So we are always confident."

2 Cor. 5:13,14. goes on to conclude, "....If it seems we are crazy, it is to bring glory to God. And if we are in our right minds it is for your benefit."

".....Either way Christ's love controls us."

And from their hearts placed where they placed it comes the following: "So we have stopped evaluating others from a human point of view. At one time we thought of Christ merely from a human point of view. How differently we know Him now! 2 Cor. 5:16.

"So we are Christ's Ambassador's, God is making His appeal thru us." 2 Cor. 5:20.

How BIG is your God, a God who loves us and never leaves us? Satan is a master liar, and world [ly]-class diverter so we need a two front understanding to allow God to protect us [Even unto death].

"We always carry around with us the death of Jesus--so that the life of Jesus can also be revealed in our body." 2 Cor. 4:10.

We are all traveling this journey together at different spots. But we all need more Of Christ revealed to us. Some, more thru His resurrection, of potential, others of us may need more of Christ's death infused into our being.

If people like Jason truly believed what he claims about self-defense he would leave the doors of his house unlocked - day or night.

I'll betcha he doesn't.
