And where do you get listening to rock is a sin?
Well thats a whole nother subject that could be posted in another link but to summerize...

Rock has its roots in voodoo ....it has a repetative beat that alters a persons state of consciousness and causes them to be influenced by the demonic realm.

Rock got its name from fornication in the back seat of a car. Rock was 100% born of the flesh. The Bible says that which is born of the flesh cannot please God. I see how people who listen to rock act they have less ability to see right from wrong.

Take thou away from me the noise of thy song Amos 5:23

Here's the kicker. Next time you are masturbating, think of God. In the middle of your act, ask Jesus if this is OK for you, and then you will have your answer.

Those who are sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirt, who are being perfected according to the renewing of the mind, and are compelled, not by the flesh, but by the Spirit, to remove certain lustful desires and habits from their lives, are aware that masturbation is a deviation from acceptable sexual conduct. Those who defend sin, or are unbelievers, who have little to no understanding of the concept of sin, are unable to comprehend the dangers associated with any sin at all, because they live by a legal or moral code which is considered acceptable in their own eyes.

I will tell you that I believe masturbation is sin. My reasoning is not only because I once struggled with several addictions, but that if the term perverted is correctly understood, masturbation and several other practices easily fall under this category. You will notice that sodomy, between a man and a woman, is not discouraged in the bible. Pedophilia is not mentioned or defined in any way in the Old or New Testament. Does this make these practices acceptable because they are not mentioned? God forbid!

Is masturbation sexual? We must concede that it is. Any activity involving the sex organs, or that which is done for the purpose of deriving sexual pleasure, is sexual. Does this mean it is immorality. If we correctly understand immorality, which is., violating moral principles; not conforming to the patterns of conduct usually accepted or established as consistent with principles of personal and social ethics, it may not be.

However, because the ethical and moral perceptions of Christians are not necessarily subject to those of the world or unbelievers, we cannot categorize masturbation as a sin based on the world's moral code. Because of this, we must define not only sexual immorality, but also Perverted. The term perverse is stated in several forms throughout the bible, as well as God's perception of a perverse man/woman.

Definition of ‘To Pervert’
1. To cause to turn away from what is right, proper, or good; corrupt.
2. To bring to a bad or worse condition; debase.
3. To put to a wrong or improper use; misuse.
4. To abandon what is acceptable or orthodox

Proverbs 3:32

the LORD detests a perverse man but takes the upright into his confidence.

Titus 3:10

Warn a divisive person once, and then warn him a second time. After that, have nothing to do with him. You may be sure that such a man is perverted (subverted, warped and sinful), he is self-condemned.

After correctly defining the term sexual, and therefore knowing that masturbation, (because it involves sexual pleasure derived from the use of sexual organs), is in fact sexual, when we then view the term masturbation with the additional understanding of the meaning of the terms Perverted, Perverseness, Perverse, or Perversion, we find that masturbation easily falls under the category of 'Sexual Perversion' or ‘Sexual Immorality’.

While it is not sexual intercourse, it is certainly a sexual act, as is sodomy and oral sex, and must be considered a deviation from the norm, or what is considered sacred or acceptable.

So, I'm just wondering. Like, what's really that wrong with it, as long as it doesn't become some addiction or compulsion. It's the safest form of sex haha...it can aid with stress relief...it's a natural and healthy exploration...WebMD ok's it. So why do Christians have such a problem with it?
Well, I don't agree with masturbation for a few reasons. As Christians we should be striving to develop a closer relationship with the Lord, and I think that masturbation can hinder us from this. It might just start out with a one time thing, but can develop into an addiction and can take up a lot of your time that could be spent more wisely. Second of all, Jesus told us that if we even look at a women with lust, we have already committed adultery with her in our hearts. That isn't just speaking to men but to everybody, if we are lusting then we are committing adultery. I don't think that you can masturbate without some sort of lust involved. Either you are lusting over someone, yourself, or just the feeling you get when you do it. That is why I personally think it is wrong.

Here are some bible verses that you could apply to this topic:

1 Corinthians 6:18, Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

Matthew 5:28-30, But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.

James 1:13-15, When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full grown, gives birth to death.

1 Corinthians 10:13, No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

Romans 6:11-14, In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness.

Hebrews 4:15-16, For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have One who has been tempted in every way, just as we are-yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

I beleive that mastorbation is a sin. Someone correct me if I am wrong but dosent masturbation stem from lust? Lust is a sin. It is considered a sin to allow oneself to slip into sinful thought, thoughts of lust, and acts resulting from lust. Usually if I am sinning and doing something displeassing to God I will feel guilty about it.

True, but there is no Biblical or medical evidence to suggest that masturbation and lust are inherently co-dependent. If that were the case, then every time anyone had a lustful thought they'd masturbate, which obviously doesn't happen. If its possible to separate masturbation from lust, then why do so many think its impossible to do the reverse as well?

Does the Bible say strickly thats its a sin to smoke...
No, but since its medically harmful to do so, it would likely fall under a violation of the body as a temple of God. Masturbation doesn't adhere to this, because there's no evidence to suggest it is inherently harmful.

...abuse an animal...
If you're referring to cruelty toward animals, then that would be a breaking of God's command to take care of the Earth and all thats in it, using the dominion He gave us at Eden. Before the Flood happened, God had disallowed meat for human consumption, but He allowed it afterwards. If a person kills an animal, it should be to eat or make proper use of it, not for mere sport or cruelty.

...listen to rock music...
I don't recall anything being in Scripture which condemns music with a beat. Its the message and lyrics that matter, not the tune. For example, if you'd never heard Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer", and someone played an instrumental version of it, how would you come to a judgment of it as a sin?

...sniff crack, or smoke weed...
See my above comment regarding smoking.

Actually it was apprently talking about a harp at least. I don't really remember harps being played in rock.

Amos 5:23 (English Standard Version)

23Take away from me the noise of your songs;
to(A) the melody of your harps I will not listen.

Ok...
First of all IT IS A SIN!
Your sperm is the seed of life. It is said that you rather put ur seed in the belly of a whore, than waste it on the ground (which is what u do when u masturbate) . That does not mean that u go and sleep with anyone, because pre-marital sex is a sin too. Moreover, whenever u have the urge to masturbate, it is human tendancy to have lustful thoughts about women, and the Bible says that

Matthew 5:28
"But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust in his eye has already committed adultery with her in his heart."

Job 31:11-12 (NLT)
"For lust is a shameful sin, a crime that should be punished. It is a devastating fire that destroys to hell. It would wipe out everything I own."

1 Thessalonians 4:7-8
"God has called us to be holy, not to live impure lives. Anyone who refuses to live by these rules is not disobeying human rules but is rejecting God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you."

If lust has not yet gripped your heart and mind, ready yourself through a life lived above reproach to combat the temptations of lust. If you currently struggle with lust, it is time to come clean before God and ask for His intervention in your life, so that holiness can be a mark of your life as well.

YOUR BODY IS THE TEMPLE OF GOD..

So, whenever u feel like masturbating or whatever, just remember that u have the seed of life with u which is not meant to be wasted on earth or flushed down the toilet :)

Regards
Clement

OK, first thing, you need to use punctuation. I've fixed this post for you, in my quote of it. Now, let's tackle these issues one at a time...

It is difficult to accomplish this, that much is true...but that doesn't mean its not possible. Lust can be born in the heart, regardless of whether an individual is masturbating or not. The two are not inherently linked, contrary to popular belief.

I know you're probably joking with this comment, but I'd like to address it anyway. the core question for every person is, "Why are you masturbating?" Is it to fill a void that needs surrendeirng to God? If so, then you're doing it for the wrong reason. Lust is often involved with this activity, but not always. If someone claims they are able to masturbate while focusing on God (and yes, even if reciting "Amazing Grace" in their mind), who am I to say they're lying? Only God knows and understands the depths of the human heart.

This isn't necessarily true. I do agree that using pornography for this activity is wrong, but the absence of it doesn't automatically mean that the individual is lusting, either. Also, its important to note that not all sexual thoughts are lustful. If a person masturbates for the purpose of gaining a physical release so they won't sleep around, is it wrong for them to enjoy the emotional "high" that accompanies that release?

The Bible says that fornication, adultery, homosexuality, incest, and bestiality are wrong. All of these are sexual acts which involve some kind of partner, and also violate God's created institution of marriage. As such, they are off-limits, but there is no mention of masturbation in Scripture, one way or the other...it's not in there. It might actually be easier if God had given us explicit instruction on this, but He didn't. This presents a challenge for those who think its sinful, because in order to claim such a thing, they must first explain why God didn't mention it at all. Surely, He knew what would happen in modern society, so if it were inherently sinful He'd have said so.

I appreciate Tyler's attempt at including himself in this conversation, and being that he is one of our newest Chat members, perhaps pointing out his grammar is not the best way to welcome him, but in any case, MovieFan and the young lady who asked the initial question, may I suggest you both read Corinthians 7: 1 though 9. If this doesn't answer the question or rebuke any arguments, I don't know what will...

p.s. please excuse the text...I broke my glasses....

Yes Masturbation is a sin period, but hold on it doesn't mean that there's anything wrong with you. As a man struggling with lust I can say this, there is a difference between being tempted by lust or seek whatever to make you lust after it. If you sinned because you were tempted then Jesus would have sinned just because he was tempted by Satan, Christ just didn't give in & this is the difference.

Then there are the physical constraints which out of habit the body chemically adapt too well to it because simply put it was created to be this way BUT I fully believe these can be overcome with time, I fully empathise with anyone who struggles with this issue because I myself do fall into this pit from time to time but at least its MUCH by less then before, just pray & keep your heart clean as much as you can & you won't imagine how much time helps.

Perseverance is the key! Maybe these steps might help, at least to a great extent they've helped me,
Memorize the A.N.T.H.E.M friend! :)

NO to any lustful thoughts within 5 seconds.

MovieFan and the young lady who asked the initial question, may I suggest you both read 1st Corinthians 7: 1 though 9. If this doesn't answer the question or rebuke any arguments, I don't know what will...
OK, here it is, from three different translations...

King James Bible

1Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.

2Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.
3Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.
4The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife.
5Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.
6But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment.
7For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.
8I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, it is good for them if they abide even as I. 9But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.

The Amplified Bible

1NOW AS to the matters of which you wrote me. It is well [and by that I mean advantageous, expedient, profitable, and wholesome] for a man not to touch a woman [to cohabit with her] but to remain unmarried.

2But because of the temptation to impurity and to avoid immorality, let each [man] have his own wife and let each [woman] have her own husband.
3The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights (goodwill, kindness, and what is due her as his wife), and likewise the wife to her husband.
4For the wife does not have [exclusive] authority and control over her own body, but the husband [has his rights]; likewise also the husband does not have [exclusive] authority and control over his body, but the wife [has her rights].
5Do not refuse and deprive and defraud each other [of your due marital rights], except perhaps by mutual consent for a time, so that you may devote yourselves unhindered to prayer. But afterwards resume marital relations, lest Satan tempt you [to sin] through your lack of restraint of sexual desire.
6But I am saying this more as a matter of permission and concession, not as a command or regulation.
7I wish that all men were like I myself am [in this matter of self-control]. But each has his own special gift from God, one of this kind and one of another.
8But to the unmarried people and to the widows, I declare that it is well (good, advantageous, expedient, and wholesome) for them to remain [single] even as I do. 9But if they have not self-control (restraint of their passions), they should marry. For it is better to marry than to be aflame [with passion and tortured continually with ungratified desire].

The Message Bible

1 Now, getting down to the questions you asked in your letter to me. First, Is it a good thing to have sexual relations? 2-6Certainly—but only within a certain context. It's good for a man to have a wife, and for a woman to have a husband. Sexual drives are strong, but marriage is strong enough to contain them and provide for a balanced and fulfilling sexual life in a world of sexual disorder. The marriage bed must be a place of mutuality—the husband seeking to satisfy his wife, the wife seeking to satisfy her husband. Marriage is not a place to "stand up for your rights." Marriage is a decision to serve the other, whether in bed or out. Abstaining from sex is permissible for a period of time if you both agree to it, and if it's for the purposes of prayer and fasting—but only for such times. Then come back together again. Satan has an ingenious way of tempting us when we least expect it. I'm not, understand, commanding these periods of abstinence—only providing my best counsel if you should choose them. 7Sometimes I wish everyone were single like me—a simpler life in many ways! But celibacy is not for everyone any more than marriage is. God gives the gift of the single life to some, the gift of the married life to others.
8-9I do, though, tell the unmarried and widows that singleness might well be the best thing for them, as it has been for me. But if they can't manage their desires and emotions, they should by all means go ahead and get married. The difficulties of marriage are preferable by far to a sexually tortured life as a single.
Nowhere in any of those is the word "masturbation" contained, nor any description of it at all...none. In fact, some scholars have suggested that the original language of Verse 9 is more accurately translated as "if one can't control one's own member", which was a Biblical name alternative for the genitals. The physical practice of masturbation isn't referenced in any way in this section, let alone condemned.

Movie,

It's right there!! Right infront of you! What do you think the following means?? " 9But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn." and... " 9But if they have not self-control (restraint of their passions), they should marry. For it is better to marry than to be aflame [with passion and tortured continually with ungratified desire]." and... "
9I do, though, tell the unmarried and widows that singleness might well be the best thing for them, as it has been for me. But if they can't manage their desires and emotions, they should by all means go ahead and get married. The difficulties of marriage are preferable by far to a sexually tortured life as a single." Yes, it does not say DON'T MASTURBATE, I don't even think the word itself existed back then, so you are attempting to justify an act simply because the words themselves are not clearly written in the Bible...Am I the only one who thinks that masturbation is a lack of self control and, in order to get to the, ummm, how do I say this delicately, "end" of the act, one must be thinking "improper" thoughts? Will you be thinking of a pair of shoes, during the act, or will you be thinking of the flesh during the act of masturbation? Is this not sin? Is this not a lack of self control??????

Movie,

It's right there!! Right infront of you! What do you think the following means?? " 9But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn."
Seems self-explanatory to me. If a person has reached a point in their life where they can no longer handle their desires without lusting, then they should marry. I have no inherent issue with this.

Yes, it does not say DON'T MASTURBATE, I don't even think the word itself existed back then, so you are attempting to justify an act simply because the words themselves are not clearly written in the Bible...
My point has been not only that the word "masturbation" isn't in Scripture, but no description of it is found, either. The phrase of "seed falling on the ground" refers to the story of Onan, who did so by using the so-called "withdrawal method" of birth control, instead of following God's command to sire children for his slain brother.

Am I the only one who thinks that masturbation is a lack of self control and, in order to get to the, ummm, how do I say this delicately, "end" of the act, one must be thinking "improper" thoughts?
No, you're not the only one with this opinion by far. Many in the Christian community share this view, but in the strictest sense its not Biblical. The situation remains that if anyone wishes to classify any action as a sin that isn't already in Scripture, they must first explain why God didn't say so Himself. There's barely any doubt that the practice of masturbation was known of in 1st-century Israel, so there's only 3 possible reasons why God wouldn't mention it at all...

1) It's an oversight. This goes against God being all-seeing, thus it defeats itself.

2) He didn't know it would become such a large problem in the church. This would make God less than all-knowing, which is also a self-defeating stance.

3) It's not an inherently sinful act, in and of itself. Lust is clearly condemned in the Bible, as are fornication, adultery, homosexuality, incest, and even bestiality...but there's zero mention of masturbation. Why would God go to such lengths to mention His stance on sex with animals, which is far less common now than it was then...and refrain from mentioning a near-universal practice like masturbation?

Will you be thinking of a pair of shoes, during the act, or will you be thinking of the flesh during the act of masturbation? Is this not sin? Is this not a lack of self control?
It depends on what you mean by "the flesh". If you're referring to a selfish desire for another person who you're not married to, then I'd say that falls under lust, and as such masturbating under such a condition would be wrong...but the sin is not in the masturbation itself. However, what if a person chooses to focus on their own body, or even God Himself, and masturbates as a "preventive measure" to keep their desires under proper control? Would that not be a way of "controlling your own desires", as Paul mentioned to the Corinithians?
