I noticed from the thread of "Share your worse first date" that some are discouraged, so lets share our best dates ever. I will go first!

My best date ever is one I planned. Which I feel is totally acceptable!!! HOT AIR BALLOON ride with a champagne breakfast afterwords. My dates - my beautiful children! It was a wonderful experience.

and for a DATE....DATE that someone else planned.

A motorcycle ride up the mountain to a beautiful lake with natural rock slide. Had a blast and headed down the mountain stopped at an awesome local burger joint. I like a date whom can plan outside of the norm!

How about you? Share some great dates and encourage others to perhaps plan dates or see there are good daters out there!

Best date: Picks me up, we go to the grocery store and wander (what? I LOVE the grocery store! So many options) and talk about the things we like. He picks up some olives I especially like, then the crackers, then some expensive specialty cheese that I just adore, etc. I'm having a wonderful time just chattering about things he should try 'someday' not really paying attention... because he says we're going out for dinner later.

He says he's thirsty, do I want anything... we pick up a bottle of my favorite sparkling water, something sweet... and I'm still not really paying attention. We go to cash out and I am still just chattering away, not paying attention to what he's doing.

We get in his truck, take a drive. He says there's about an hour till our reservation, do I want to stroll in this park? Of COURSE! :) We go walk down to sit by the waterfall, and he spreads this blanket... and a whole picnic that we'd just picked out. It was so romantic and casual and special.

I married me that man about 8 months later. He was a good time.

My best date was my first date. I think I've mentioned that I'm a twin, so in the dating world, that comes with a whole set of unique challenges. Chances are, if I'm a guy's type appearance-wise, my sis is, too.

There was a guy that I'd had a crush on, which was an oddity for me. Usually, I take longer to warm up to folks. This crush had gone on for a year or so and I'd shared it with my sister. When a group of us were hanging out one day, I noticed that he took my sister off to the side some time during the day. I remember feeling sad but resigned to giving up on the crush since fighting over a guy is not my thing.

Turns out, he was asking my sis about his chances with asking me out, checking to see how receptive I'd be. We went out that night and it was a simple walk around our park and eating. I was a bundle of nerves and it was awesome. He spent the date showing me that he'd noticed me and what made me tick in the year's time. I loved that approach. Simple and sweet was definitely the way to go.

My best probably wasn't that spectacular to everyone else. We just decided to eat dinner at one of the diners on campus, and it has an upper floor with just a handful of tables. So we had a normal meal there but stayed and talked about random things and watched Netflix on my laptop for several hours since the place doesn't close until 1AM. Nothing else really happened but I've never experienced that level of connection with someone since then, and I'll probably remember it for the rest of my life even over some of the more "exciting" days.

Honestly, I think that the connection is what makes a date. It sure doesn't have to be fancy, in my opinion.

He was a wonderful husband, we had a good 14 years. I've been widowed 3 years now and he still makes me smile.
I am so happy you had a wonderful husband and those years. What a blessing for you! They say time heals when our loved ones go to heaven. I believe that time, takes time. Hold on to those memories and continue to smile. GOD BLESS!

my best date?

back in dem college days (lol). it was valentine's day. the guy i was dating said to meet him for breakfast, which was not something i usually did because i didn't have early morning classes. anywho, i met him in the dorm lobby (we lived in the same dorm), and he gave me a program that was in english and spanish. he had a hallmate write the spanish part. anywho, it looked like the programs a person gets when you go see a symphony. it had what we were gonna do for the day between classes.

for dinner, we drove around town, and he purchased my fave foods for dinner. corn dogs from this place. fries from that place. beverage from another place. we then ate at the park. afterwards, we went back to campus, and he said he needed to get ready. when i saw him again, he was all decked out looking fancy. i had no clue what was going on, so i was still in my jeans and tshirt lol. he then said he would've loved to take me to the symphony but we broke college kids. lol so instead, he rented out the movie room in the student center, and we watched a symphony concert on dvd. i thought it was really creative cuz.. we were broke college kids. lol

come to think of it, he still owes me the dessert of that night. i was too full from dinner so we didn't get it. oh well. lol

For Pete's sake, Melita... You need to track this guy down and get that dessert (ask him for a snocone.)

After that, you need to propose to him and live happily ever after!!! (Sorry... I'm a sucker for a creative romantic who knows how to work the magic, despite economic challenges!)

Can your best date just be one with you and God?
