Hey Everyone,
For as much as we talk about food here in Singles, I was wondering what kinds of unique likes, dislikes, and habits you all have when it comes to your eating preferences. Do you have any food rituals that you have to follow? (I know a lot of people don't like it when their foods are touching each other on the plate or get mixed together.)
I honestly never really thought of myself as a picky eater until I got together with some friends a while back. I guess when you always eat by yourself, you never realize that some of the habits you've picked up might be a little different from everyone else's!
For instance:
* I don't like raw tomatoes. At all. However, I love tomato sauces (such as spaghetti and pizza) and soups.
* I don't like slabs or chunks of meat, which is one reason why I rarely eat meat anymore. I just find the texture of a big hunk of meat to be a bit "rubbery", and so I always shred it with a knife and fork before I eat it. I love sandwiches, but prefer that the meat be shaved or very thinly cut.
* I KNOW this one is going to get me in trouble, especially with our friends in TX!!! I don't like ribs or BBQ. *shrugs* I'll eat it, but it's just not my thing.
* My favorite part of a baked pasta casserole is always the very top layer that's a bit "crunchy." And yes, I have been known to threaten people (siblings) just so I could have most of that top layer all to myself.
* I like my burgers without any kind of gross, sloppy sauces. NO ketchup, mayo, or mustard *yuck*! I want just the burger, cheese, and a few select vegetables (hope you don't mind sitting next to someone who just ate raw onions ). And yes. I also cut my burgers into tiny pieces before eating them, unless it's a fast-food burger.
* I wish I liked a lot of food that are supposed to be really healthy for you, but I just don't, even though I've tried. Oh, how I've tried!!! But... cucumbers... *shudder*. I just can't.
And while I might be considered to be a picky eater, I AM a polite eater. I'll try a bit of most anything put in front of me without complaint (unless it's still moving... or raw.)
What are YOUR special eating habits and preferences?
I usually don't like romantic comedy movies (I'll talk about my picky movie preferences in another thread! ), but this classic clip from When Harry Met Sally is The Mother of All Picky Eating, which Sally continues to demonstrate throughout the entire movie:
