I admit I struggle with this. How long before I get back up? It so often feels like cheating if I just quickly jump 'back on track' but others tell me don't beat yourself up, you have to forgive yourself as well. But since I've never been very good at 'hearing His voice' or knowing what God or the Holy Spirit is trying to prompt me towards, I just don't feel rightrejoicing, like I'm taking advantage of God's kindness, knowing I'm forgiven. How soon is it okay?
"How long" is kind of up to you. With God, it is immediate..... but you might feel it makes you somehow better to punish yourself awhile. It doesn't. Really just hurts you. But, if you like to do it, go for it. God will patiently wait till you get through whipping yourself.

Hi, I just kind of jumped in here today and yours was the first post I read, but I was studying this morning and felt is was appropriate to share this with you. It applied to me and I hope it helps you.

Blessed are those who mourn,
because they will be comforted.—Matthew 5:4

God wants us to experience His joy (John 15:11). Yet we cannot experience His joy until we have mourned over our sin. If we do not grieve over the weight of our sin, we have no concept of sin's devastating power. If we treat our sin lightly, we demonstrate that we have no sense of the enormity of our offense against almighty God. Our sin caused the death of God's Son. It causes us to fall short of what God intends (Rom. 3:23). It brings pain and sorrow to others, as well as to ourselves.

The Bible says that those who grieve over their sin will draw near to God (James 4:8–10). Those who mourn and weep over their sin are in a position to repent (Luke 4:18–19). There cannot be repentance without the realization of the gravity of sin. Regret for sin's consequences is not the same as sorrow for sinning against holy God. Confession of sin is not necessarily an indication of repentance. Repentance comes only when we acknowledge that our transgression has come from a heart that is far from God, and we are brokenhearted over our grievous offenses against holy God.

Jesus said that those who are heartbroken over their sin will find comfort. They will experience new dimensions of God's love and forgiveness. His infinite grace is sufficient for the most terrible sin. Do not try and skip the grieving process of repentance in order to move on to experience joy. God will not leave you to weep over your sin but will forgive you, comfort you, and fill you with His joy.

This is not the mindset of Grace. As believers we live in His VICTORY over sin.

We can weep and mourn and beat ourselves almost to the point of death and it does nothing, absolutely nothing positive for us.

Jesus Christ has the victory over sin, Look at Him and what He did and we will see the tremendous price of Sin. And He is no longer on the Cross bearing sin. He is risen in victory.

Son Focus, not sin focus.........that is the believers life.

Thanks, that's really nice of you to try and help me directly like that. Iguess I do take sin lightly. I've had times on my face, gut wrenching remorse, tears til im empty, but dont know that I felt comfort really, just kind of empty and wondered well I cant just keep laying here, I hope God forgives me, ive asked Jesus to be my saviour, and believe He died for my sins. Sometimes I wonder what am I doing that's so wrong, but I know if we say we have no sin we make God a liar and thats scary, so I just have to move along, to where I dont know. I know ive done so many things wrong I cant count, so I do my best to just trust Jesus to be my saviour, but I always just feel so wrong inside. I cant force God to make me feel His presence inside, or feel joy'filled and washed clean, that's got to be His decision, and I know I dont deserve it anyhow. So I do my best in church and in trying to encourage others, but inside myself most times, and often even with others, I still feel pretty much alone, and lately even this cchat is making it worse. It seemsoften, not alwats, but often, im typing to myself, or others that are just laughing behind the scenes. Every thread will show 10or 20 users, but my name or one other will be shown and the rest say guest, even tho I know they're all members and im sitting there watching them post in real time. I seem to get here, not by all but most, I get what I get in real life, that feeling of unattachment, from God and others, and the fear that in the end ..... ah, i'd rather not say. No need to give the enemy even more irrevocable things to use against me. I do thank you for this post, though. I hope I can come out of this enough to make saturdays event. I may feel like a hypochrite, but I hope I can at least do SOMEthing to help before I'm gone.God bless you and thanks again.

It is not ok. That is your conscience convicting you and you ought to take it very seriously.

Others on here are telling you to "not worry about it, you are already forgiven." The Bible does not teach that.

The Bible teaches...

Pro 28:13 He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

Not only do we have to confess our wrong doing, we also have to forsake it permanently. If we are stealing then we have to go and steal no more, if we are engaged in sexual sin then we have to engage in sexual sin no more, if we are engaged in gossip then we have to go and gossip no more. This is what God demands.

How is this achieved? Simple. Through broken godly sorrow, wrought by the conviction of the Holy Spirit, which leads to a real change of mind (and change of action) unto life. Paul described it like this...

2Co 7:10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
2Co 7:11 For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.

Godly sorrow works repentance unto salvation not to be repented of. In other words we are supposed to repent one time. The Prodigal Son repented one time and forsook his wayward course and sought out his father with a true heart, confessing his wrong doing, confessing his unworthiness, pleading for mercy. His father forgave him freely for he repented.

Godly sorrow works a real repentance. The sorrow of the world works death.

If your heart is not wholeheartedly submitted to God then don't deceive yourself into thinking you have repented. Repentance is not something we do over and over again whereby we continue to rebel against God in the knowing engagement of evil.

Read the scriptures and reflect on what you read. Examine your heart, be broken, mourn, then yield to God as you realise it is the only way. Approach the mercy seat with a true heart in repentance and faith and God will cleanse you.

Don't be deceived by those who would tickle your ears with lies about your sins being forgiven in advance. Don't be deceived by those who would tickle your ears with notions that "Jesus paid your sin debt in full" thus cancelling it out. Jesus taught no such thing nor did anyone who truly followed him.

Thx. Was typing and posting a reply before I saw this one. Its a very diiferent perspective, I simply took the last one at face value. Im gonna have to reread a rethink alot of this, but can God ever penetrate this hard heart and thick as a brick head.? God bless yous for this thread, I try to kid around with others on 'bdf' and 'sym' etc. But still not getting the fellowship, genuine deep fellowship, and learning, good solid bible learning, that I came here for. It must be me, never knew where I fit in in life, leaving me to conclude that I guess I just don't.

You know what was wrong? You didn't scream loud enough. It is our responsibility to REALLY prove to Jesus that we are sorry by practicing and perfecting that pitiful "repentance wail", so that we convince Him. Get that down right, and you will have then earned your Salvation properly.

I am sorry for your troubles, but go back and read some of the scriptures in my post. God is ALWAYS with you and knows your heart more than you do. You are somebody, God created you and loves you just the way you are. I feel for you and know your pain, been there myself. But, you have to truly believe and believe in yourself. It sounds like you are hard on yourself and you should not carry the guilt with you. Jesus died for our sins and all you have to do is kneel down and speak to Him about all of the things you just typed. If you can tell strangers, you can certainly talk to God.

Matthew 7:7 (KJV)
[SUP]7 [/SUP]Ask, and it shall be given you, seek, and ye shall find, knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
Jesus here uses three words: ask, seek, and knock. There is the "asking" in the spoken words of prayer, the "seeking" in the efforts and labors which are put forth in carrying out prayer, and the "knocking" at the gate with the urgent importunity which claims admission to the Father's house. Earnest prayer is encouraged here. These three words forbid any ritualistic or formal prayer, speak to him like you do your friend. Those who ask and seek and knock are assured that they will receive, "for every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened." Corresponding to the three words—ask, seek, and knock—are the three words—receiveth, findeth, and shall be opened.

You matter and I love you like a sister in Christ. Have confidence! :)

Gal 5:1~~New American Standard Bible
It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.

If we think that our battle is against sin, and even get our life cleaned up and work hard at defeating sin in our life............we are living in slavery to our sin. Quitting sinning is not the Christian way of life.

When we are living the Christian way of life and growing in His Grace and knowledge ..................we aren't sinning.

The plan is to live in the new creation in Christ. If we are living in this plan, we just don't sin. Its not a fight against sin, its living in a plan that has no sin in it. When we fail, we name it and site it and get back into the plan.

If we find our selves fighting against sin, and white knuckling along in life..........we aren't living in the new creation and the plan God has for our lives.

Spoken like the true Pharisee you are.

The Bible speaks of you directly when it says:

"For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God." (Romans 10:3)

You have not accepted the grace of God. You are trying to keep your salvation through "your own righteousness."

You will fail completely.

I agree completely. His is the white knuckle religion. a life of failure after failure......misery. And misery loves company.

Its our choice if we want to live in misery or the freedom we have in Christ.

The Pharisees were inwardly wicked whilst contending for outward obedience to the rules and regulations of the law.

Is that the mould I fit Budman? You know it isn't which is why your only responses will be short ad hominen quips interspersed with an out of context Bible verse or two.

Rom 10:3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
Rom 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

Jesus Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believeth, not an end for righteousness itself.

God expects the righteousness of the law to be fulfilled in us for we are to walk after the Spirit and not the flesh. It is the Spirit of life in Jesus Christ which truly sets us free by which we can stand before God in a truly pure state an have victory over sin, not in position, but in reality.

Rom 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Rom 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
Rom 8:3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
Rom 8:4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

I come on these forums and contend that repentance is inclusive of the actual forsaking of rebellion to God, I contend that the thief has to stop stealing, that the adulterer has to forsake their adultery, that the porn watcher has to forsake engaging in their lustful activities, that the murderer has to cease from killing, that the liar has to cease deceiving others, and so on.

I contend that the forgiveness of God is conditional on a repentance whereby the rebellion to God completely ceases once and for all. Yet that message is utterly opposed by many. Many who defend the ongoing working of iniquity whilst being in a forgiven state.

Those whom believe such a thing simply do not believe Jesus. Instead they believe in a convoluted patchwork of out of context proof texts which they use to defend an ongoing life of wickedness, all the while snowballing it with words like "grace, love, forgiveness" as well as moral platitudes. Yet bring up the subject of "known evil having to cease" and it strikes to the bone and reveals these people as defenders of iniquity.

What failure are you speaking of?

An ongoing walk in the spirit of life in Jesus Christ is the very antithesis of failure. Our hearts are clean and pure and we are full of joy for we have fellowship with the Creator as the love of Him is shed abroad in our hearts. We have on the full armour of God and walk in victory over the world for we are born again from above.

It is the sin defenders who talk about constant defeat which they term "slipping up" or "getting off track." The sin defenders cushion their terminology and steer well clear of any discussion on "rebellion" or "purity of heart." Such things are too hot to handle for they expose the root of the sin defenders false doctrines.

This topic here on this thread is exactly for Christians like you sydlit, and me and others who do not understand Grace. I felt a lot like you wrote here before I grasped - by faith - the fact that my sins are no longer held against me. Jesus took them and God said they are forgotten as FAR as the east is from the west. Jesus paid the price for all our sins including those that are in our minds. All our sins that we have ever committed or ever will commit. They are paid for in full.

Doing our best can't help us., it actually hinders us unless we stop- look at Jesus and see that HE has paid for our condemnation and our shame. We can't pay. That is why you are so frustrated and hopeless right now. For you to feel condemned and ashamed when Jesus already took those things associated with your sin is too not apply Jesus sacrifice and grace to your life. The devil is the one who is the accuser and it is him who is accusing and torturing you right now not the HolySpirit. The devil is the accuser of the brethren., he comes to kill steal and destroy. And like he did with Adam and Eve and like he has done with millions of other Christians, he will accuse you and use your own guilt against you to get you to turn away from God because you think God is condemning you. To get us to be hopeless when we actually have been freed from that is one of his greatest victories. The Bible says My people die for lack of knowledge.

We have all been there at one time or another. The enemy loves to see us in a clump in a corner wallowing in guilt and shame and remorse when Jesus already paid for it. We try to pay for our guilt by showing God we realize how we don't deserve His forgiveness and love. God's grace has given you the place to no longer lay in a pile on the floor. You are no longer outside God's family. You are a child of the King and you have inherited rights given to you by Jesus bloody death.

If you have accepted Jesus as your Savior you are no longer guilty before God. Jesus took your guilt and shame and condemnation. It is for you to take (by faith) the gift of NO CONDEMNATION. Take the unmerited love and favor of God (by faith) and walk in freedom every day of your life now. That is our instruction., To work to REST. Jesus paid for it for YOU. It's no longer about YOU it's about Jesus and what He did. You honor HIM when you believe His sacrifice is sufficient for you. It pleases God when you honor the Son.

The enemy wins when he gets us to look at ourselves and not Jesus. We are admonished to look to Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith. Realize we are human and Jesus made a way of escape. HIM. when we sin, we have an Advocate with the Father. He pleads our case and it's taken care of. Accept a new each time you sin the full forgiveness of your sin because Jesus is there FOR YOU. He not only saved us from hell and damnation, but He gave us so much more when He paid for our sonship.

If you accept the condemnation thrown at you by the devil., God can't make you feel better. He has already given you Jesus what more can He do? He said for you to accept by faith what His Son Jesus has provided for you. There is NO more condemnation on you not because of your righteousness., but by the righteousness of His Son. We all received the GIFT of righteousness when we got saved. The only problem is many of us Christians don't know it. Many of us still think we have to earn forgiveness again and again. Jesus is our High Priest who sits at the right hand of the Father ever making intercession for us.

I cannot stress this more., all of this is BY FAITH.. supernatural FAITH. Hebrews 11:1 (Amplified version my favorite)

NOW FAITH IS THE ASSURANCE (THE CONFIRMATION THE TITLE DEED) OF THE THINGS WE HOPE FOR BEING THE PROOF OF THINGS WE DO NOT SEE AND THE CONVICTION OF THEIR REALITY (FAITH PERCEIVING AS REAL FACT WHAT IS NOT REVEALED TO THE SENSES.

It's actually like letting go 100% of your own ideas and trusting God to take care of you based on His Word and the death of His Son on your behalf. Faith is a beautiful thing to live by.

So Willie-T if i understand you correctly, you are teaching Salvation by Works?

You do know Willie-T that Salvation is ONLY by Grace and Faith?

Ephesians 2:8-9
[SUP]8 [/SUP] For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,
[SUP]9 [/SUP] not of works, lest anyone should boast.

We do NOT prove anything by trying to convince Jesus Christ that we are sorry for our sins. You do know Willie-T that God knows your thoughts? So why would we HAVE to convince Him of anything?

You really need to read the Scripture and get a better understanding of who God is!

God forgives us for our sins BECAUSE God Loves us! Not because we have CONVINCED Him we are sorry!

Do you even walk with God Willie-T?

Why are you trying to deceive those who walk with God Willie-T?

Repent and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior Willie-T.

You are consumed by pride and you can't even see it as you stand on a high hill and look down on others.

You preach a different gospel. One of works to maintain salvation. You add to God's gift. You are one accursed. (Galatians 1:8)

It's all your kind deserves.
What was the other gospel of the Galatians?

It was the error of being under the law of Moses as opposed to righteousness through a faith that works by love.

Gal 5:4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.
Gal 5:5 For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.
Gal 5:6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

The righteousness of God is via a faith that works by love, it is not via adherence to circumcision or any other rule set. True righteousness is manifested through a pure heart emanating pure love whereby we truly love God and truly love our neighbour. We walk in accordance with the Spirit of God and thus do not fulfill the lusts of the flesh, lusts which would otherwise draw us into sin.

Yet you won't discuss that will you? Of course not because that is not part of the Gospel to you. The Gospel to you is merely confess, trust and receive whereby you perceive that all your sins are forgiven, even future rebellion being forgiven in advance. There is no allusion to heart purity in what you contend for because heart purity is not necessary. You think you are reconciled to God whilst you are still actually wicked, whilst you still actually serve Satan. Then when that is exposed you are obviously find abhorrent the concept of loving one another with a pure heart being the standard God actually requires.

It is not pride to contend for obedience to the truth through the Spirit by which we are made pure before God. It is not pride to testify an abiding walk in the Spirit of life in Jesus Christ whereby we overcome the world.

You call it pride because you dislike such a thing because it is such a contrast to the notion that one is forgiven whilst they continue to work iniquity.

Jesus succinctly warned that it is workers of iniquity whom profess His name whom will be rejected. Jesus taught that it is the doers of the will of God who will enter the kingdom. The will of God is for us to do righteousness through the Spirit of life in Jesus Christ, whereby we walk by a faith that works by love, love that fulfills the righteousness of the law, an inward righteousness by which we are inwardly clean, an inward righteousness that flows outward and is reflected in our conduct.

Yet people like you hold such simple truth in contempt.

While mocking, you still presented the true gospel. Ironic.

How many of our sins were still in the future when Christ died on the cross?

All of them.

The Law must be breaking your back by now.
