Oh for Heaven's sake! What's it gonna take?

Do you have to go around trying to remember to do right, in order to get your own parents to love you? (Or your wife?) (Or your kids?) Or do you just AUTOMATICALLY and INSTINCTIVELY avoid things that will bring them shame because you love them?
Bingo! I was just contemplating that myself on my walk today. I was like, "What kind of barbaric mother would I be if I glared at my child when they were in error and I required them to repent on their knees to me in tears of agony trying to convince me they were sorry?" What kind of monster God do people think the Lord is? Jesus said if you see Him, you've seen the Father. Where in the Bible do we read where Jesus made people crawl to Him like worthless worms before He restored them, healed them, fed them, forgave them?? No, Jesus met their needs and His love restored them. His love for us makes us want to follow Him.

Two things. Our very own conscience, and the accuser of the brethren. Our conscience because God wrote His laws upon our hearts, even unbelievers have a conscience. All humanity has a conscience, but of course people go against their conscience. Some would argue people have them seared and thats why there is no standard of morality for them, it is all subjective. People have an inherent sense of right and wrong, though people (who dont believe the bible) would associate that with some type of social evolutionary reason (whats best for survival).

Now on to the second answer, the accuser of the brethren. Well, the devil doesn't want you to know who you are in Christ and to have confidence towards God. So he attacks with condemnation and guilt so as to deter you from the Lord's presence. The veil is broken but he, as with legalists, would have it sown back up. Let me show you a verse about the disarming of principalities and powers.

Colossians 2:14-15New King James Version (NKJV)

14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.

Notice that the disarming of the enemy was due to the Law being nailed to the cross? So as the accuser of the brethren, what can't he do now? He can't point to our falling short of the glory of God, and condemn us, distancing us from God as Jesus fulfilled the Law and has imputed us with His righteousness. We don't let our hearts condemn us and we can have confidence towards God because of this gift of no condemnation. The enemy may show us our shortcomings but we rest in the grace of God and the finished work of Jesus, knowing fully we may come boldly into His presence.

This site does a little examination of some of the words in the text to make a point in the greek: Colossians 2:15 - Andrew Wommack Ministries
Thanks for our response...this thread got derailed by an impostor and I do not like to argue and throw our opinions around, I like a peaceful debate, backed up by scripture. Therefore, I am dismissing myself from this thread, not because of you...

So are you saying Willie-T we do not need to know the Commandments?

What is it going to take for you to realize there is a lot more involved in entering into Heaven then just feeling good?

Matthew 7:13-14
[SUP]13 [/SUP] "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.
[SUP]14 [/SUP] Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

Actually its not just about believing, its also about doing.

John 14:15
[SUP]15 [/SUP] "If you love Me, keep My commandments.

John 14:21
[SUP]21 [/SUP] He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him."

John 15:10
[SUP]10 [/SUP] If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love.

1 John 2:3-6
[SUP]3 [/SUP] Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.
[SUP]4 [/SUP] He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
[SUP]5 [/SUP] But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him.
[SUP]6 [/SUP] He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.

We are to walk with Jesus Christ and keep His Commandments. Its more than just believing in Jesus Christ. Even Satan believes in Jesus Christ.
What are the commands that the believer is to keep?

Doing is a manifestation of believing.

Its more than just believing in Jesus Christ. Even Satan believes in Jesus Christ.
The word "believe" can describe "mental assent belief," as in James 2:19, or also include "trust and reliance in Christ for salvation," as in Acts 16:31. In James 2:19, nobody questions the fact that the demons (and Satan) believe "mental assent" that "there is one God" (they believe in the existence of Christ) but they do not believe/entrust their spiritual well being to Christ; have faith/reliance upon Christ for salvation. Their trust and reliance is in Satan, as demonstrated by their rebellion in heaven and continuous evil works.

Matthew 19:16-19
[SUP]16 [/SUP] Now behold, one came and said to Him, "Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?"
[SUP]17 [/SUP] So He said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments."
[SUP]18 [/SUP] He said to Him, "Which ones?" Jesus said, "'You shall not murder,' 'You shall not commit adultery,' 'You shall not steal,' 'You shall not bear false witness,'
[SUP]19 [/SUP] 'Honor your father and your mother,'
and, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' "

Have you perfectly obeyed ALL of the commandments 100% of the time? Is that what you are trusting in to receive eternal life?

What are the commands that the believer is to keep?
Anything the Lord taught in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.............

Matthew 28:16-20

The Great Commission

16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

We already KNOW the commandments. I've done more wrong things than you can count, but I do it no more..... NOT because I have to keep reminding myself not to, but because the love of Jesus helps me see people as his creations, not as enemies that I have to fight the urge to kill.

And James was addressing the tribes of the dispersion...................Jews.

The Jews believe in one God. Are they saved? NO. they don't believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as their one God and savior.

Matthew 22:36-40King James Version (KJV)[SUP]36 [/SUP]Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
[SUP]37 [/SUP]Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
[SUP]38 [/SUP]This is the first and great commandment.
[SUP]39 [/SUP]And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
[SUP]40[/SUP]On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Do we need every word of the law to know how to love? Don't we have the Holy Spirit ,who is love, living inside us to lead and guide us into all righteousness?

We trust in the Lord and by that love and trust in the faith we also obey to follow what He said.

Do we struggle or stumble at times?

Yes we do but when we do we confess those sins and keep walking forward in the faith putting aside all uncleanness of the flesh to walk properly in the faith. And thanks be to God for sending His Holy Spirit to us to strengthen us were we are weak so that we can accomplish this.....

You don't know how to live the Christian way of life then.

An unbeliever can follow those commands.

Don't you guys even see what "the narrow gate" was?

Literally thousands of Jews had spent their lives earning their forgiveness by dutifully bringing their sacrifices year after year.... the line to kill those rams was almost endless. But Jesus brought a new, very simple and narrow way, ("No one comes to the Father except through me".... NOT sacrificing animals like the whole nation was doing.), the way He always intended... just trusting. A way that was so foreign to the way they had learned and lived, that most of them missed it, entirely.

The narrow gate is simply trusting Jesus.

That is just wrong to say to another believer in Christ, because following His teachings and commands are what we are told to do in the bible and also shows also the believer in Christ will uphold the 10 commandments as well.

You say an unbeliever can follow those commands as well, which is not true because the first two they can not.
To love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, and mind and to not have any other god's before Him then can not keep.

Plus if they do not believe in God or the Lord Jesus then any good they do are dirty rags because they are only done for self, and not for the love of God.

Who is speaking of sacrificing animals ???

The way the Lord brought was forgiveness of sins through His own blood and the standard to walk in love for all people.

In order to receive that remission of our sins through Him He gave clear instructions on what to do in order to receive that forgiveness. In that He said by faith we are to repent, get baptized, forgive others, keep our confession in Him, and live by showing love and mercy to others.

By doing this walking in love all the other commands will be upheld !!!

Kenneth, you and I can go around and around this same tree every time. Yes, I completely agree with what you just said. The only thing we disagree on is what constitutes those fruits. All a believer needs is the desire to change their behavior, and an acknowledgement that their sin really is sin. The Holy Spirit will do the rest and lead them to walk in the righteousness that already belongs to them. All they need do is surrender.

The only fruit that we can discern is peoples doctrines. We lack the ability to see other peoples motives.

An unbeliever and a believer can give, serve,go to church, love others,do mission trips, praise Jesus, live morally..........but when He opens his mouth and says," I am doing this for my salvation or to maintain my salvation." we can judge that fruit/doctrine. Because we have His word that says salvation is by grace through faith.
