What is baptism
Baptism is one of several responses, given to us by God, to express and demonstrate our faith in God (James 2: 17, 18) and also to perfect and complete our faith. (James 2: 22) The Greek word, baptizo, means to dip or plunge, so if the word had been appropriately translated in the Bible, we would have the word, immerse, or something similar. In certain segments of the religious world today, the concept, is commonly belittled and diminished, although baptism was authorized by Christ for all the world. (Mt. 28: 18-20; Mark 16: 15, 16) Many claim that baptism is merely a rite, a symbol, the outward expression of an inward grace. The Scriptures, on the other hand, tell us that the one baptism is one of the seven pillars of the unity of the Spirit and that there is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God, and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all. (Eph. 4; 3- 6) Please, don’t let anyone tell you that baptism is insignificant. Not only that but we find that water, yes, plain water, is one of the three witnesses that Jesus is the Son of God. (1 John 5: 5- 9) The other two witnesses are the blood and the Spirit. It is then important to come to a better understanding. Some tell us that since water is a physical entity, that God cannot use it to accomplish spiritual purposes. This is an example of another unsupported claim, as God uses unleavened bread and the fruit of the vine, physical entities, to accomplish the spiritual purpose of remembering or Lord. God bless.
