Science is very real, if it weren't we wouldn't have the medications that keep me alive

the early Christians believed science and spirituality were one and the same. it wasnt until the last 1000 years we start to see a separation of the 2

What would the reasoning be for some one who did not believe that science is real? Science is one of the things that confirms the truth of the Bible! Also, Genesis 1:1 shows God creating time, space and matter.
I wouldn't understand why someone doesn't believe science is real, however I would want to hear their side of it and why they believe that.

I believe science exists, yeah. But its just human understanding of the world around them based on what they can see, and ignores things that we cannot, and are not able to comprehend. I dont put my faith in it, because its often used as a way to come up with alternative explanation of things that we cant understand, as well as a way to make our own rules with the justification of things like animals resembling each other, or sharing traits of other animals, even though its still impossible for a life form to transform into another life form, and to this day entirely unproven, though still called factual. It is nothing more than the capability of understanding by men, which is totally limited, and often corrupted to fit mens agenda, used to sway the people to that agenda. It is not a found doctrine, nor is it 100% truthful.

I appretiate all the feedback. I just dont understand how the bible says things like that the earth is only 6000 years old when 99% of the worlds scientist believe its closer to 4.5 billion. Or is that just what they believed when it was written? When it implies things like that among others, it makes me not trust the credibility of the other things written...

So are you saying the bible is wrong? Or are you suggesting that the earth has been around 6000 years and was created to be much older. Or are you saying God didn't create the earth 6000 years ago and time to God isn't the same as time is to us?

the problem is not with the bible it is with mankind. i am pretty sure the bible does not say the earth was created in the year 4k bc, not a day sooner or later. mankind makes these statements, not the bible.

As I understand it the idea that the earth is only 6000 years old was put forward by some bishop who based it on adding up the Generations of people in the Bible. He not only worked out the year he claimed he knew the Day and the Hour it was made.

The Bible is concerned with our Salvation. It is not supposed to be used as a Science text book. If it was we would be given details of the structure of Atoms, knowledge of Germs and diseases and a whole host of discoveries and inventions that took
hundreds of years to find out the hard way. Imagine all the lives that would have been saved if God had arranged for all the medical discoveries, including a cure for Cancer in the Bible. We would be a lot further ahead than we are. We might even had DVDs of Christ and his apostles preaching. That would have solved a lot od Doctrinal arguments.

Well the Bible never actually says that. Anywhere. Some people tried to do some math and they just assume they are infalliably correct on that point.

What they call science today is not science. The old earth mythology is a good example of this. It is supported by unproven or disproven theories and by outright lies and hoaxes. When their old earth mythology theories are taken together they contradict each other. Much moreso do they contradict the hard evidence of reality.

I am glad that my salvation and final destination does not hinge on whether I believe the Earth is 6000 or 6000,000 years old
if it was that important it would have been spelled out clearly in the Bible not left for us to work out as with so many other issues.

Thanks Ive been struggling with my beliefs lately and most of your answers have been helpful. Ill leave it at this; I can only believe what I believe. Ive grown to not believe in a "Christian God" or a God that watches and judges me based on my actions and whether or not I believe that Jesus Christ was his son. I dont trust the word of people I did not know, that wrote things about stuff that happened a very long time ago. Heres my logic, if God created me to think how I think, and then I get punished for not believing in what "he" wants me to, then thats not a God that I want to worship anyway. Ill just continue to live my life trying to be the best person I can and hope that works out for the best.

Sounds like your struggle is thinking you're "stuck" and you can't change. You're not and you can. :)

First please read "Case for a Creator" by Lee Strobel. Its science from a Christian perspective but he interviews experts in their fields. Realize that unsaved people want an answer that doesnt include God. Richard Dawkins for instance hates anything to do with Christianity, hardly unbiased.

Quote " I dont trust the word of people I did not know, that wrote things about stuff that happened a very long time ago."

So you dont believe WW1 or 2 happened? That Napoleon existed or Alexander the great? You dont believe history?

Quote "Heres my logic, if God created me to think how I think, and then I get punished for not believing in what "he" wants me to, then thats not a God that I want to worship "

God didnt create you to think how you think. He created you with free will and a brain to read and search and find Him for yourself. When you were a child and you went to put your hand on a hot stove did your parents stop you? Did you resent them for it? Then dont blame God for doing the same thing.

Quote " Ill just continue to live my life trying to be the best person I can and hope that works out for the best"

And if there is a heaven and hell? How does that work out for you? I think you better look a little harder before you make up your mind.JMO

Well, one can't "not believe in science", but one can distrust scientists ...

Top 10 Most Famous Scientific Theories (That Turned out to be Wrong) - Toptenz.net

The reason why some are skeptic is that it is so easy for a person to come with a theory, sprinkle it with semi- science and claim that it is true.

And it doesn't help that people spread "facts" that aren't facts at all, making "common knowledge" false:

10 Completely False 'Facts' Everyone Knows - HowStuffWorks

....

As someone else said, if you dismiss everything someone you didn't know wrote a long time ago, you dismiss history, and science.

It is not about him punishing you for not believing in what he wants you to:

it is like this: We all broke the law (you don't get away with that in the US either do you?)
Him punishing you is merely the consequence of breaking the law

Him NOT punishing someone is a free gift that he offers, and it only has ONE demand: Faith
If you believe in Jesus Christ and accept that He died for you, asking Him to forgiver you, He is willing to take away the death sentence, NOT because you did something spectacular, but because you chose to put your trust in Jesus

Amen, ray james...and I applaud you, as a young man, that you see science as confirmation of just how beautiful and important GOD's creation truly is!

Good point about the recent history, but thats the thing its much more recent and with more reliable sorces. It hasnt had as much time to change, be rewritten and edited by people. Im not saying that everything that was recorded back then was untrue I just take it with a huge grain of salt, as I do with recent history as well. As far as heaven and hell, I can simply believe in neither. We are mere humans, sometimes i think its arrogant of us to think we even have a clue what it will be like after death. People like to believe they have an idea or know what it will be like because its comforting and the unknown is scary. Did all the humans B.C. go to hell even if they had no idea what/who God or Jesus even were? Seems very unfair.

Jesus was always the Word (John 1:1,14) and the Word speaks on that:

Romans 1:20 - For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
