I think the idea that a goodly number of single people are single because they have some kind of flaw is slightly faulty thinking.

I think part of the reason more people are single today is because it's actually easier to be a single person in our society than it was say...100 years ago. A lot of the stigmas or difficulties attached to singleness no longer exist.

Also, people are much choosier today about who they marry. The expectations that people have about marriage and a marital partner are significantly higher today than they have ever been historically, so that means that people are taking more time to decide who to couple up with.

But if you look around, there is plenty of evidence that God brings all kinds of flawed people together in all kinds of ways. So, in that sense of it, I think it's very possible that the reason a Christian might be single is because it's God's will for them to be single.

And there's nothing wrong with that.

God may have a person single for a season so He can call that person to deeper intimacy with Him. Or maybe they're single because God is working on the person He wants them to marry. Or maybe they're single because God wants them to have a sense of joyous independence that will be altered with a spouse and children. Or maybe they're single so they can work in a particularly ministry that would be more difficult with a spouse and children.

Ultimately, our investment shouldn't be in our own expectations, but in God's will.

I tried being selfless and got slapped in the face for my effort.
This gives you a significant connection to Jesus. He too was often slapped in his selflessness...and ultimately literally slapped for it.

Well it could suggest that fantasy is part of a persons thought process? And maybe a lack of being able to relate to real people? ...just a guess :) lol

Whoa... that really sheds a new light on things and brings me a new perspective... maybe, just maybe I should tell my therapist about Andrezinho... I'm starting to get the feeling that he may not be real... though the fact that no one can see him, and the fact that he's 8 feet tall, has the body of a winged horse, his eyes are fully blue and he can sing like Andrea Bocelli should've tipped me off sooner........

Oh well....

If I lived way back in the day, when it was practicaly impossible for a woman to make an honest living on her own. I would have married one of my friends a long time ago so they wouldn't be destitute. I guess thats marrying for love, but Im personally glad to live in modern times because that is not something a guy in this day and age really ever needs to worry about.

I collect dolls...and guys don't like that!
Also, I'm a prude apparently. :p

Out of curiosity, what kind of dolls are we talking about here?

If I met a girl who collects bunch of dolls with no head or missing body part, then yeah, I will be like whaaaa..t? But if he knew you well enough and like you for who you are, your doll collecting hobby would not matter whatsoever even if ones with missing body parts.

Im sinlge cuz.... its kinda difficult to explain. There are several reasons why, Id say.

I do have some social anxiety, I do get nervous around people I dont know all that well, and I struggle to talk when around them. I even have this problem at work, when people want to have a conversation with me, I generally look away from them, and struggle to think of things to say. And when I do try to talk I forget words and studder over what Im trying to say sometimes. Its not really that horrible, but at times it can be difficult. There are a few people who I actually really do just naturally click with, like at work there was this 50 year old Catholic lady that I just felt really comfortable with, and we could just talk about anything. I had no problems with her at all. But that rarely happens : p

My mother lives with me, and I am currently her sole provider. Shes in a lot of pain and cant work that much anymore, and shes not married, and our father left us when I was very young. None of my siblings are willing to help her, so Ive kinda fallen into the role of her provider : p Im certainly not angry about it, she does need help, and I dont have children or anything. But Im well aware that any women I meet are not gonna be interested in a guy who takes care of his mother, so I think this will set me back in that part of life a bit : p
Am hoping that one day they will give her the disability she needs to live.

Im..... I guess picky about whatever girl Id end up with. I have my own issues I deal with everyday. And there are alot of earthly things that I just dont like or enjoy being around. Im not gonna go on about what they are here, but many girls often like these things, and I just dont wanna be around some of that kinda stuff.
I think Id do really well with a girl whos like me, one who comes from a similar life that I did. And one who feels the same way I do about stuff, and neither of us would ever have to worry about feeling uncomfortable with the other : p I mean we both have to agree with the other (as in who we are, having to fit as two people) and feel comfortable together.

Im not really all that upset about being single, though. I mean, having that special bond feels really great, yeah. But Im mostly just worried about having peace of mind and having my needs met, haha : p That would be a really nice thing to have in life, too, yeah. But I can live a fine life without ever having that, as long as I have loving friends or family, warm shelter, clean clothes, and food and water : p

But dunno, maybe one day Ill find a girl I really click with and feel like Id want to be around all the time : p Its happened before, actually, so I totally have faith that it /could/ happen again : p
Man, you are AWESOME!!! God Bless!!!

Pallet Jack? Fun...especially when they're electric...

Electric pallet jacks scare the hee haw out of me.

We have one at work and I refuse to touch it whenever possible. I'll take the old-fashioned "cranking" kind any day.

They're actually TOO fast (in my humble opinion)... As in, you could accidentally hit that reverse button--and crush your own feet under the weight--in the blink of an eye.

Fine. You take the vacation. I'll take the manual pallet jack. I agree with seoulsearch, those things make me nervous.

I tried being selfless and got slapped in the face for my effort.
And that's the most ironic thing about selflessness.

If we actually got a payback for it, how much of it could be counted as being selfless anymore?

I'm certainly not advocating abuse. It's just that I have to wonder... The Bible says even the world is good to those who are good to them--the time when we get "full" heavenly credit is when we are selfless... and get slapped in the face.

I have to wonder if the people who stay in marriages in which they are selfless but constantly run over but honor their commitment will be counted as more righteous than many of us who get to do what we want... Maybe not, but it's just a thought.
