Would you sell an arm or leg for 20 million dollars?

I only knew because he's one of very favorite speakers, and I've heard him pronounce it, Christian :).
 
Well.. this reminds me of a story I read somewhere. I think the author is unknown, but if someone can find the author then please let me know. I'm quoting it here -

"There was a blind girl who hated herself because she was blind. In fact, she disliked everyone, except her loving boyfriend who was always there for her. She used to tell her boyfriend, "If I could only see the world, I would marry you."

One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her. When the bandages came off, she was able to see everything, including her boyfriend for the first time.

He asked her, "Now that you can see the world, will you marry me?"

The girl looked at her boyfriend and saw that he was blind. The sight of his closed eyelids shocked her. She hadn't expected that. The thought of looking at them the rest of her life led her to refuse to marry him.

Her boyfriend left her in tears and days later wrote a note to her saying: "Take good care of your eyes, my dear, for before they were yours, they were mine."

I still think I would give an arm or a leg if I could make a difference to the world. It really depends on the weightage between the value of me losing my arm or leg and the value of the difference I would make. If I can rationally conclude that the value of the latter is greater, I would go ahead. The money is insignificant though.

It's a pretty deep question, Angie. I don't know if you intended it that way. :p

I am too busy with foot in mouth disease to sell one of them cause they are always in use.....

Yes...but I'd make sure I had use of it til I died. I'd lease it back for 5 million.

Smart man, shorting your own foot and leasing it back lower. Me personally, just hack the whole thing off. I want a titanium foot for shin kicking nonbelievers. You think being shunned is bad? Wait until you get shinned :p
 
I must be one selfish bugger because I honestly can't see myself selling my foot for $20 million, even for friends or family. I hope that doesn't make me terrible so much as deathly afraid of hacksaws. :P

I'm the same, Tin. I mean, the scenario is unlikely on all sides, but the cash has no appeal to me at the loss of my leg, and even the "use the money for great things" doesn't seem that wise to me. 20 million is a drop in the bucket when faced with the problems of the world, and crippling myself permanently (for temporary gain) and becoming dependent on others to care for me doesn't seem like something God would want, even.

If God told me to do it, I would of course. I will make any sacrifice he calls me to. But otherwise? I don't think so. :p
 
Nope!!! It would make me even clumsier and then I couldn't kick butt or dance when I want to and I need to bust a move now and then or I'd get bored in lines. Besides $20,000,000.00 doesn't go as far as you think. Especially after you pay the taxes on that. Not saying I wouldn't take it if given, but I wouldn't give a part of my body to any one except family, until I am dead. Then anyone can have what they want.
 
I was thinking of this thread the other day because I had sandwiched myself between two U-boats at work crammed full with merchandise (I was pulling one and pushing the other), and managed to ram the cart behind me right into my heel. (Have I ever mentioned I'm clumsy...)

YEEEEEOOOOOOUUUUUUUCCCCCHHHH. That, and a bitten lip to try to keep me from swearing. And now I have a massive bruise and it hurts to wear as shoe. This was just a blow to the back of the heel!!!

I can't possibly imagine the pain of actually having your whole foot cut off!!

Plus, the movies always make bionic parts look cool and supercharged, but in the end... I honestly don't believe anything we make can replace an original, healthy limb. Back home we had a couple of men who came to our store with artificial legs, and I don't know what happened (maybe they were in the war?) but I bet if you asked them, they'd rather have a natural limb rather than $20 million. I could be wrong though.
 
I have actually lost the use of my dominate arm in a motorcycle wreak, and can assure you, that for me, no amount of money would be enough for the awesome body parts Gods given us, and every day you wake up with all of them you should hit your knees to thank Him for them. Trust me you never want to find yourself waking up without one of them and realize you have taken them for granted your whole life, trust me on that. There is one more point I want to make. I thank Him every day for the useless limp appendage hanging on my right shoulder, because it brought me to His Truth, and I honestly don't see how I would have ever found it otherwise. For Christ I'd give both arms, both legs, both eyes, both ears, and tongue, but for money, no thanks I'll keep them.
