On the contrary HeRose, This was the beginning of the church getting set up. He faced death all the time. How often have people here posted how Paul suffered such things on earth? He was stoned, left for dead., he was tortured, brought before dignitaries., misunderstood.,, etc... He dealt with these things all the time. The church in it's early stages was a time of great persecution and also great JOY.
Yeah I take that back. He was referring to the hazards he encountered frequently for the sake of the gospel.

I think romans 7:14-26 is right in synch with chapters 6 and 8....there is a progression...Who is going to deliver me he says from this bondage of death?...that's when romans 8 starts...and then as I wrote earlier..the Spirit of life in CVhrist Jesus is known..walking according to the Spirit..or ..flesh..etc.

Ok..big distinction needed here that helped me out.

there is a difference between "being in the flesh " and "walking according to the flesh"

Being in the flesh in verse 8:9 is not being in Christ... Paul says However , you are not "in the flesh" but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you.

Being in the flesh = not born again...(natural man- devoid of the Holy Spirit in them)

Being in the Spirit = born-again with the Spirit of God in us ( or in Christ )

We can walk "according to the flesh" where the pesky parasite-sin is and produce the works of the flesh

We can walk according to the Spirit and produce the fruit of the life of Christ in us..whic is love, joy. peace..etc...I want to point out here that self-control is a fruit of the Spirit and not something we produce on our own power...we do activate our will to chose to work the flesh or walk according to the fruit of the Spirit is that needs to grow out....sometimes we need to wait until the fruit of patience is manifested by the life of Christ in us..or we could walk according to the flesh and "do it" ourselves and self-effort...kinda like "helping God out"..lol

Is any of that bearing witness with your spirit?
In rom 7:7-11 I imagine all agree Paul is speaking as a Pharisee. Consider the law he I breaking and the results of that. Plainly he does not want to break the tenth commandment as he was an ardent Pharisee. Now how would Paul the Pharisee feel at breaking that commandment, what would be the results of that in his life, how would it make him feel? Seems to me a mirror image of verses 14-25

But as we will not agree it may be best to leave it at that

There is great power in the cross! All our sins have been forgiven thru the blood of our Lord Jesus..we have healing because of the cross..the other great thing is that we were crucified with Him and we died with Him

Paul in 7:14-25 is talking about the parasite-sin that is in his member warring against what he wants to do with his inner man...talking about the principal evil that is present in him..that is in his flesh..I just see him talking about how this "war" within him is making him wretched man that he is..

I don't see how 7:14-25 is out of synch with the gospel message..I see it how he is describing the condition of the parasite-sin in his flesh..messing his mind up..then romans 8...comes to the rescue with the answer of his tormented understanding of his condition..

You should be agreeing with me

Is there great power in the cross of Christ or not?

You keep quoting
Sin shall not be your master for you are not under law but under grace.
Paul plainly admits sin is his master n 7:14-25

It is perfectly understandable Tha people who believe they have to crucify their flesh by their own effort relate to the Paul of rom7:14-25, but you don't believe that lol.
Rom7:14-25 is out of sync with everything else Paul preached of the gospel message. Surely you can see that

Come on. Romans 8 does not bring Paul to terms with his position. Rom7 is a chapter of defeat, of sin being Paul's master. Ch8 is all about victory over sin through the power of the holy spirit, a completely different paul

Crucifying the flesh
But put on the Lord Jesus Christ and do not make provision for the desires of the flesh. Romans 13:14
This is soooo encouraging and goes back to the truth of our minds being the battle field. How we think determines how we live. There IS victory over the flesh when we allow the HolySpirit to renew our minds and putting right things into it is essential to the process. "What a man things so is he" We don't have to be overcome with the world and the flesh and the devil. Jesus has already defeated them.

AT ROMANS 13:14:
Paul was using the term “flesh” here as referring to the part of us that has not been changed by Christ; i.e., our sinful appetites and desires Romans 7:18). These sinful lusts cannot dominate us if we don’t make provision for them. Paul was saying to cut off the flesh’s rations and starve it to death.
Many of us Christians have mistakenly believed that during our lives here on the earth, we are doomed to have ungodly lusts and desires. However, it doesn’t have to be that way. The sin nature that enslaved our flesh is gone, and to the degree that we renew our minds through God’s Word, we can experience victory over the flesh ( Romans 5:21). The reason that the flesh seems so strong in many of our lives is because we are continually feeding it.
Temptation is linked to what we think on. If we don’t think on things that engender temptation, we won’t be tempted and won’t sin (see note 9 at Romans 4:19).

I have found this to be so true. If something stupid is on tv or even too much tv gets my mind on a different track. Being with the wrong people a lot., etc... But when I listen to Bible preaching and teaching., be with good Christians, make provision for those things, soon the habits that controlled me lose their grip and I'm strengthened in the inner man. Unsaved people don't have a choice., they are slaves to sin. We have this treasure in earthen vessels and can be built up in the faith by the choices we make... not being ignorant of the enemies devices.

Phil.4:8 Finally brethren whatsoever is true, whatever is honorable, right pure.. lovely whatever is of good repute.. if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise., let your mind dwell on these things.. .... 9...b. and the God of peace shall be with you

Sin is called deceptive just like it's father the devil!

I agree with HeRoseFromTheDead ..sin deceives us but when we find out about Romans 8..then we start to confess who we are in Christ and walk out those truths...confess..there is no condemnation in the face of contradiction!..it takes faith to do that...confess the truths of being in the Spirit..not under law but grace..etc..lot's of stuff.

What I love about God is that He lives outside of time and He sees our future and He comes back to us in our present time with a scripture/promise for us....you know what I mean when a promise "jumps" out at you and her heart jumos for joy?...this word from God is what we need to get us to the future He already has planned for us!

Then by faith and patience we inherit those promises from Him..it all starts and end with our Lord.

He is awesome!

Sin can be a believer's master if he lets it, no matter how great the power of the holy spirit is. I think it's people who don't understand spiritual struggle that can say what you've said.

this doesn't look like a safe way to live...in the natural..

2 Corinthians 11:23-26 (KJV)
[SUP]23 [/SUP] Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft.
[SUP]24 [/SUP] Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one.
[SUP]25 [/SUP] Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep;
[SUP]26 [/SUP] In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren;

Paul was not in danger of being killed every day. Ridiculous.

I think he was talking about the human experience..we all go through this.,.. ( his experience would be related to as a Pharisee trying to keep the law tho )...seems to be talking about how sin took opportunity and when that "pink rabbit"..showed up..he had to look!

a completely different Paul that has understanding of what Christ ahs done for him. Maybe its like whenyou became a different man after your victory you talked about. You were a Christian before you started to confess your righteousness in Christ...the truth and life of Christ manifested in your new..volia! new attitude with a renewed mind..living in victory..victory won By Christ in you!

There are so many rich truths being brought out that I'm very encouraged to be on this thread. Being pushed to study more and use my spare time on the computer to be in the Bible searching out scripture verses that my mind is recalling. The HolySpirit brings to mind these verses that we have heard over and over and some have been memorized from years gone by. It is encouraging to see how the Word of God is sharper than any two edged sword... (someone said that is like a laser they use today) just cuts things like butter. Down to the dividing of soul and spirit, intentions of the heart revealed... makes me wonder how we allow ourselves to be drawn away from studying the Bible by the business of our days.

I will just tell you this, that victory was four days after I understood of grace.
Before that tine when I was under law:
I was sold as a slave to that sin.

What?..you sinned on purpose for 4 days?..see..that hyper-grace does lead to sin...lol.. sorry..I had to do that.

that made me think about Abraham...I noticed that it took longer for the son of the promise thru the Spirit to manifest then the son born from self-effort..Ahhhh..but the son of the promise born of the Spirit was the one that got the father's inheritance.... selah

God's grace is awesome!..sin is deceitful and just like it's father....

Jeremiah tells us the heart is deceitful. Sometimes it will even try and justify sin

yes..the heart back in Jeremiah's day sure was deceitful! ( back when the old man was still alive in them )

Jeremiah also said that the Lord will give us that "new Heart"..he was looking ahead at redemption and seeing us in Christ

David did it too..looked ahead and saw what we were going to have in Christ..

Psalm 32:1-2 (NASB) How blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered!
[SUP] [/SUP] How blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit!Deceit now is in the flesh with that pesky parasite-sin . We have a new heart now ..the new creation in Christ.

Jesus said...out of the heart comes all these evil things...which is why He said...clean the inside first and then the outside will change.
He did it!

Acts 15:9 (NASB)
[SUP]9 [/SUP] and He made no distinction between us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith.

We have a new heart. What an awesome salvation we have!!

Amen brother Grace777, for years we were told to pray and sing 'create in me a clean heart oh God.' It was a pretty song but in the new covenant we have that new heart. Unlike the believers in the old testament., we are sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise and He doesn't come and go like He did back in the old testament. Another important truth to know for us in the new covenant of grace. We can learn a lot from one another.

In the old testament the Holy Spirit would come and leave people. But not so in the new covenant of grace. He comes INTO the believer and abides there and stays and seals until the day of redemption.
There are so many differences for the new covenant believer as we begin to study it out. :)

You have a new heart Tha is true, one that wants to obey, but it can still be deceitful, swayed by the flesh

How can the inside of the cup be made clean if a person is sold as a slave to sin as a mature christian
If that cannot do the good they want to do but rather the evil they hate doing
If you are a slave to sin and evil you cannot be clean on the inside
However, on these websites I never doubt an answer will be found lol
