I have great respect for Ussher (the monk, not the pop singer). That said, he was off the mark by a couple hundred years. That's absolutely nothing in the scheme of things. Certainly a much better effort than that given by the evolutionists and old agers. Also, I've read plenty about the Gap Theory - why it's right, why it's wrong and everything in between. It's not a viable option if you read the Bible plainly. God created the earth, matter, then he gave it form and purpose. That's the definition of creation. There was no Satanic Flood or whatever. Just one, the global Flood of Noah's time.

You mean you've read plenty of books of men... about the Gap idea. And that's all they are, books of men, never a replacement for God's Word. So you can listen to those men, I will listen to God in His Word, and the rest of what you say is just your opinion and nothing more.

The great controversy between evil and good isn't simple.
Love isn't love without free choice
In a perfect universe with no freedom we would be slaves and God isn't like that.
Sure God could have just blotted out anyone that choose to sin but than the universe would serve Him out of fear.
God could have blotted out the whole universe and created it again with out sin but than the problem could arise again and He would have to start again.
God is LOVE, By letting sin run it's course for a time, the whole universe could see why it should not be part our lives. Why sin can't exist in a loving universe. But He didn't just leave us as an example of DEATH, PAIN and DESTRUCTION, He gave us a choice and a way to be saved from sin. I'm not perfect but i have been freed from many painful sins in my life thanks to Jesus (with the hope of being freed from them all ). I haven't found anything, anywhere that comes close to the peace that i find in Jesus and His Love.
You don't understand what you are missing.

what is being missed is that God is all knowing and all seeing whilst humans are not - so God allowed freewill/choice etc for all to see what a mess/chaos would result - it is essential we surrender our warped/flawed will and allow God's will to be done on earth as in heaven and give the glory to God for it is in Him that we truly move and live and have our being - wincam

"Young Earth creationism (YEC) is the religious belief that the Universe, Earth and all life on Earth were created by direct acts of God during a relatively short period, between 5,700 and 10,000 years ago."

What does the Bible teach?
Well, the Bible would seem to me to teach that "the Universe, Earth and all life on Earth were created by direct acts of God during a relatively short period, between 5,700 and 10,000 years ago." Is there some symbolism contained in it, though?

Haha! You're ridiculous. You can't get the Gap Theory from reading the Bible plainly, with the help of Holy Spirit. You got the idea from men. Nice try though.

I have found that the same people who attempt to use scripture for a start date, are also the same people who attempt to use it for an end date.

No, this one is pretty easily done, and plain - while the other is definitely not

Most people who go for Gap theory or other than literal historical or Old earth - don't know anything about Science, or have no biblical worldview

To your detriment if you try to Old Earth and fit evolution in the bible. I have taught 7th graders the differences between Old Earth and Young earth and they understand it

was the old earth the nothing that banged in the big bang to form the new earth - wincam

Well, you're terribly wrong about that.

One without a 'dull' mind should immediately see a problem with the KJV translators version of Hebrew tohuw va bohuw ("without form, and void") in the Gen.1:2 verse when they simply read what God said in Isaiah 45:18, which He said He did NOT create the earth tohuw:

Isa 45:18
18 For thus saith the LORD That created the heavens; God Himself That formed the earth and made it; He hath established it, He created it not in vain (tohuw), He formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.

Nope.

Calculating the start date, and the end dates are NOT commanded in scripture.

People, like yourself, who attempt to do so, are going against scripture.

Anyone who holds to a young-earth-worldview has no grasp of the sciences.

Nope.

You are stereotyping.

An old earth does NOT invoke evolution!

Get that through your head.

Macro evolution is just as impossible as spontaneous creation.....but, as both the fossil record and the Biblical record tell us, spontaneous creation took place.

I have taught 7th graders the differences between Old Earth and Young earth and they understand it

What do seventh graders know?!

Try that same talk to University students...

exactly what have University students been taught and accepted - via google see [ Evolution vs God] - wincam

If you are going to preach young earth, then do NOT preach it to young people.

Preach it to adults.

Actually, calculating the start date is NOT "going against scripture" as there is no command AGAINST doing so. If you only do things which are commanded in scripture, why are you digesting your food, breathing, sleeping, writing on this thread, etc.?

Anyone who holds to a young-earth-worldview has no grasp of the sciences.

Wow, any other generalizations you want to throw out? This says much of your character, none of it good.

You are stereotyping.

And this is a great example of the pot calling the kettle black.

That's like saying that Jesus rode a Harley...after all, scripture never says that he didn't!

See your ignorance...?

Sure...

From which text are you going to sum the generations?

The MT or the LXX?

The difference is over 1Kyears!

You YEC's are stuck.
