There never was a Big Bang.
It's mankind's attempt to explain what God did in the Creation... and going way off into left field.
Actually, calculating the start date is NOT "going against scripture" as there is no command AGAINST doing so. If you only do things which are commanded in scripture, why are you digesting your food, breathing, sleeping, writing on this thread, etc.
That's like saying that Jesus rode a Harley...after all, scripture never says that he didn't!
See your ignorance...?
Sure...
From which text are you going to sum the generations?
The MT or the LXX?
The difference is over 1Kyears!
You YEC's are stuck.
Well when we speak about going against scripture we speak about in our worship of God... the very way we hold spiritual enterprise and give worship unto Him. People like to throw random examples of... oh computers aren't in the bible, are you saying we can't use computers? It's a fallacious argument to even bring up mainly because using computers in of itself is not a way we worship God or in your example a motorcycle. Unless of course, the computer or motorcycle becomes an idol in one's life and then the individual needs to seek God regarding that particular issue.
The focus is on how we read God's word, understanding the doctrine He wants us to understand, applying it in our lives, and giving glory to Him. How we study His word and live in Christian conduct has no need to be compared to frivolous statements regarding extrabiblical practices that are not connected to the worship of God. Let's compare apples to apples instead of bringing in oranges.
And regarding the Masoretic Texts vs the Septuagint... other than the Septuagint having Methuselah die after the flood and other errors... even when we account for the generations, 1000 years is nothing compared to the "millions/billions/trillions" of years people like to say it took God to speak the Creation into existence in 6 days (Yom) and 1 day (Yom) of rest and the have the generations exist on this earth as He said it happened.
