Ah, yes. The Stations of the Cross, that makes sense. I guess I was looking at it more from a storytelling perspective - it got a little repetitive after awhile. But you're right, it wasn't unrealistic for that to happen. And yes, the movie was a toned down version of the real thing, but I was already sobbing out my little heart for what Jesus went through for us, I wouldn't need it to be even more graphic. Thanks for sharing, Once. :)
It seems I should have read further, someone already answered. My bad.

If God only condoned excellence I would be disqualified and so would you. God does use the foolish things of this world to bring glory unto himself.

I must bring him a lot of Glory then lol!!!

Because of something that happened here in my congregation, I feel compelled to ask how many people on CC have watched Mel Gibson's "The Passion of Christ"... all the way through.
I have! Every year at Easter. Still hard to watch. Some may think I'm crazy to do this, but it's a reminder of what my Christ, my Savior, my Lord, my King, went through just for me! ...Well, for all of us, but I make it personal so it'll mean more to me. I hope you (you in general) are able to make it personal too. When you start referring to Christ as, "My Christ, My Jesus, My Savior, My Lord", He becomes more real to you. :)

Willie,

Thanks for sharing and showing how your church used this for a teachable moment.

I was reminded of an interview of Keith Getty I recently read. It was regarding the song "In Christ Alone" (which I think most people would agree is a fantastic, Bible-based song). Some more "liberal" denominations wanted to include it in their new hymnal, but they asked permission to change the text of this line:

And on that cross, as Jesus died, the wrath of God was satisfied.

to

And on that cross, as Jesus died, the love of God was magnified.

The Gettys and Stuart Townend refused, noting that it was important to remember that without Christ, we all stand condemned and subject to God's wrath.

As worship leaders, we need to present the entire gospel, not just the warm, fuzzy parts.

Yes, as I recall, Christ said a little something about remembering His death when He shared that Passover meal with His disciples.

Quote " Those scenes where they mocked and beat Him were brutal and over the top.
Yes, it was an awful moment. Personally, I don't need to see horrible visuals in movies to know that it is part of the event. One can imply what took place."

Well I guess I couldn't say since I've never been scourged. But the def. is torture with a whip. So it wasn't over the top at all. You personally may not need to see the visuals, but to me and others it was very moving and very real.

That's fine.
Just my little ol' opinion. I was under the impression that's what Willie wanted to hear?
Usually, the only time you get a response from the OP, is when your opinion falls in line with theirs.

Personally, I don't need help from Hollywood. I don't need them to put a pretty boy face to Christ. I don't need them to put visuals in my head, with CGI, to one of the most important events in the history of mankind.

To each their own. It's cool.
It's not a salvation issue.

....can i ask what exactly you all were "watching"
I spent 3 hours reading the movie.

I think they played down Jims looks in the movie. The Bible, the one they did on tv,I remember Oprah talking about how sexy Jesus was. I never watch anything Oprah does but I heard her say that a it really annoyed me. Even she ought to know better than to say something like that.Nothing is sacred these days.

Ya I thought that would bother me too. But you know how it went so I wasnt bothered by it.

Lol.I "picked" on you and Willie, because I knew you two were cool and could handle it.

I should have just said I liked the movie, got a few hundred likes for my post and went and opened some Christmas presents. :(

Merry Christmas, Kayla.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to run from this thread before someone asks us what we all thought of the new Star Wars movie.
I'm assuming I'll get banned if Oncefallen hears that I hated it.

I get a kick out of how much of the Star Wars movies have been "Green Screened", using much of the same stuff in them from the beginning, right on through this one.

I think it really depicted the Jews in a bad way. It showed Gibson's almost hatred toward them. It put a lot of emphasis on the female interaction during and before the Crucifixion, which was an element of the catholic twist. I didn't care for it being in Latin, Aramaic and Hebrew. Would have been nice that it was in English :).

It also almost made Jesus look weaker than the scriptures portray Him as.
not surprising being that Mel Gibson is a known anti Semite
