My dad was out of work for well over a year, applying to places regularly. This was recently, mind you; a middle aged man with years of work experience and a background in IT, and nothing was happening. He eventually had to concede to a retail job offer while he continues looking for something better. So yeah, it's not easy. Don't let the denials squish your self worth.
I learned the hardway that any job isn't just given to you. It took 11 months after graduating to land a job just in landscaping/portering. It's like I paid thousands of dollars and am continuing to do so to just do this. But it is a job, regardless, and all it takes is Just one person/company to reach out.

Don't give up lil, we can start a club : The people that people don't want to hire :p

IT folks: I am looking at mySQL again after a loong break, and I am notoriously bad at figuring out relationships, can I have some advice? I am just messing around with mySQL and C# and what I am doing at the moment is making a system similar to what I used at work, so the idea is this:

For now I want my system to use a machine ID to display info about the machine and it's contact persons

I have the tables Contact, Machine Ownership and ship to party (which is a stupid name, but what I am used to calling address info after that job :p)

my primary keys are a bit wrong at the moment, and that is what I want help fixing.

For person and machine I have ID and SN
For the ownership i currently have company ID and machine SN
--- but then I cannot have for instance a company + machine with several contacts
(as I would end up with two or more instances of ie company ID 1, machine ID 2 to get two different contacts, so it is backwards....

what is the best way to link my info?

Current tables:

| Tables_in_mysap |
+-----------------+
| contact |
| machine |
| ownership |
| shipto_party |
+-----------------+

mysql> explain contact;
+-----------+-------------+------+-----+---------+-------+
| Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra |
+-----------+-------------+------+-----+---------+-------+
| id | int(3) | NO | PRI | 0 | |
| firstname | varchar(25) | YES | | NULL | |
| lastname | varchar(25) | YES | | NULL | |
| phone | varchar(15) | YES | | NULL | |
| email | varchar(40) | YES | | NULL | |
+-----------+-------------+------+-----+---------+-------+

mysql> explain machine;
+-------------+-------------+------+-----+---------+-------+
| Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra |
+-------------+-------------+------+-----+---------+-------+
| SN | varchar(10) | NO | PRI | NULL | |
| model | varchar(4) | YES | | NULL | |
| machinetype | varchar(30) | YES | | NULL | |
+-------------+-------------+------+-----+---------+-------+

mysql> explain ownership;
+------------+-------------+------+-----+---------+-------+
| Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra |
+------------+-------------+------+-----+---------+-------+
| company_ID | int(3) | NO | PRI | NULL | |
| machine_SN | varchar(10) | NO | PRI | NULL | |
| contract | varchar(4) | YES | | NULL | |
| contact | int(3) | YES | | NULL | |

The thing I'm trying to say to myself that every no just takes me a little bit closer to a yes.

Maybe take those "no's" as constructive. You can't help others being more qualified than you, or an employer choosing to not hire, but perhaps there's something to be learned. :)

It is weird though, how some Christian pray and find a job within a week and then others of us pray and search for several years and find little work, if anything. And this is just one reason why I don't believe crap like Word of Faith.

Aye. I'm skeptical of the power of prayer. You're searching for work too, aren't you? I hope something turns up soon for you and Evie. I've been in a similar place; I understand how discouraging it can feel.

Yes, and I've been looking for several years now (especially this year). I see prayer more as talking to God. He provides tangible blessings too, sure (I would like to believe that) but he's not some cosmic genie. He does what He wants, when He wants. I don't believe on Jesus because Pragmatism, otherwise I would've walked away long ago. I believe on Jesus and follow Him because He's the Way, the Truth and the Life, and life doesn't make sense without Him. But it's very easy for me to get frustrated/angry/disappointed with God at times because of circumstances and a lack of tangible answers to prayers. And even with other Christians (like those who get jobs at the drop of a hat). But I can't let the seed of bitterness grow in me, that would bring me to ruin. Thanks, brother.

Sometimes I get jealous of people who can remember their dreams.

Then I remember most of the dreams I had from the past 2 nights and I remember why it's better that I don't remember my dreams. Good gracious my brain's been working overtime.

Glad im not the only one who's been looking for years and some us have health issues so when we do land a job we cant always hold it down.

I get pretty ticked when people have been working full time their whole lives never lost a job and and then act like the ones with the health issues are being lazy or making excuses turn around and accuse us - I think they dont know what its like and also they become arroogant and ungrateful like "oh im so tired" comments around us who would love to be able to say that to have a job or I worked 60 hours this week or extra time.

Anyone here familiar with VLC and perhaps might have a Capture Device?

I know this is a long shot but thought it couldn't hurt to ask.

I really could use a small favor.

Sadly, there will always be people like that. I had a friend who had been job hunting for many months, we would always check up on him (I was friends with his wife) cause he had a family to feed. By the time he got a job, we were so happy until he got fired the next week because he's had panic attacks that his co-workers had to get him to ER. It's never easy. We lost contact and I don't know how they're coping.

There's another side of the story too. Some people started working full time at a young age. Driven, not by their own ambitions but so their family could eat. Getting sick just enough for their workplaces to cover the expenses. Knowing that in every failure, sibling's education or just family's dinner is at risk. Every wrong move affects the people they love.

My point is, no one really has it perfectly. We all face the same trials. Dwelling on the unchanging circumstances doesn't do us any good. Yeah we make mistakes and fail, but the story doesn't really end there, does it?

At the end of the day, we'll just have to remember what matters the most. There's an eternity waiting for us in heaven, what's a hundred more years of suffering. I'd rather not have that though lol. But you get the point.

The Isrealites roamed the desert for 40 years before God allowed them to enter the promised land. I've heard that if they took a direct route it would have only taken them about 2 months. David spent a long time in the wilderness too hunted by his enemies before he became a king. It's all about God's timing.
