Had a thought earlier, yesterday, about the argument on whether or not the man in the parable was a believer in God or not. Some said no he wasn't and others said he was because otherwise he was incapable of showing mercy to anyone ever.

When I got past the thought of how the posters were having a useless conversation by their desire to write more about the fictional parable character, and missing the point of that parable by the fact that they needed it to fit their doctrines, I realized that IF I were to jump in, I would imagine him to be a believer in God because we know the Samaritan woman at the well worshiped God, so it is not right to have the thought that Samaritans didn't worship God.

Jesus said to her, you know very little about the One you worship. He didn't say she didn't worship God, just that she knew very little about Him.

Anyway, neither here nor there, just interesting.
Agreed. The parable is not about the good Samaritan..............its about the audience that the Lord used the parable to teach.

Many, many unbelievers do good and its beneficial to mankind, but it is dirty rags to God in His sight. our righteousness is NOTHING compared to the perfect righteousness of Christ.

And It hurts religion and self righteous people to hear this.Look at Bill Gates. Does tremendous good deeds for mankind. but that is peanuts compared to what Christ did for mankind. And it is as dirty rags to God if he is an unbeliever or if he is out of the plan of God as a believer.

Good point, Many err in rightly dividing the Word by trying to make doctrine and/or defend doctrine from parables. Parables convey spiritual truths but many fixate too deeply into individual details of the parable and miss the point being made. I will admit, I used try and defend doctrine from parables in the past but through study of the Word, made it clear that I was in error! Sometimes, Jesus explains the details of certain parables, but even then, there is a deeper spiritual truth to learn which is the point of each parable!

He paid for the sins of the whole world but unfortunately you can reject His offer and then there's no offer left. You can only convert in this life. If someone doesn't get a new sinless nature here on earth to be able to be with Him, how can that change after death?
(I don't believe he paid for the sins of the whole world. I can prove it biblically, but I also have enough experience to know those who think he did will think I'm wrong even if proven true, because their theology trumps bible verses. So, why bother?)

Hmmm. This is a different way than I have seen it. I have understood it that He died for everyone's sins because God loved the world so much. Of course you know He died for your sins. Whose sins do you think He didn't die for? I'd be interested to hear. I'm open to listen to the verses you believe show that there are some people in the world who cannot be covered by his blood and that He does not include when He says He loved the whole world so much that He sent His Son to die for it.

I think He didn't take the sin of blasphemy of the Spirit which the pharisees did on Him or wilfull sin after coming to the knowledge of Christ, for that there was no offer left.

I am thinking a bit more towards what risenfromthe dead said...I think good deeds like showing mercy are not what He considers to be like filthy rags.I think she is right in respect to this point. That "our righteousnesses" and "good deeds" are not the same thing. It doesn't seem God thinks showing mercy to a beat up man or showing mercy in general is a filthy thing. It is more what we think in our heart concerning the good deed of showing mercy that can turn into "our righteousnesses."

Does what's in my mind convey there...?

Yes, there is a sin that leads to death. It's terrifying to think of. Good point.

Then we wouldn't have a whosoever Gospel. It would be more like this.....

Only those who have not committed blasphemy of the Spirit or doesn't willfully sin and believes shall be saved.

There is sin that leads to physical death. The sin unto death. Not loss of salvation or Spiritual death of the believer.

If we don't fulfill His plan for our lives and are constantly negative to His plan..........He takes us home.

What makes me laugh, is simply, Gods love overwhelms all. He is saying if we commune with Him in the right way, we walk in righteousness. Now the debate has always been how, because failure is our normal experience.

My only answer is to follow and walk, one step at a time and trust. I was talking to a friend in church today about these disputes and ideas.

He shared with me a story. A woman came to her pastor and said, "What should I do with my betting shop?"
His answer was everyday to talk to Jesus when she was their and pray about every action she was doing, and then she would learn what was on Jesus's heart.

After a week she realised she had to close.

It is the walk that makes the difference, letting Jesus in and sharing our daily experiences with Him.
All these odd ideas come from a lack of reality at this simple level.

I agree completely..................it is our MOTIVE. What we are defending here is Grace. Religions motive is to feed the poor, stop sinning, help the old lady across the street for SALVATION or to MAINTAIN salvation and skip Grace and the finished work of the Cross.

EVIL, in the eyes of God. Looks really good to us though.

Jesus said blasphemy of the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven ,not in this age or the next.
What do you think He meant? How do you read it?

I have been in here for two days except for a few hours in the morning. I stayed up way past an old ladies bedtime last night too, because I wanted to keep talking with you all! Then I couldn't fall asleep because everything kept rolling around in my head that I forgot to tell one of you or forgot to ask one of you. It's hitting me hard now. I think I will crash soon. I don't want to sound like a broken record but I really have enjoyed this and I appreciate all of you and your hearts for our Lord!

Yes, we always want to know how to abide in Him. We really do some fretting over it! To abide means to believe and trust all He has said to us is true or will be true for us soon.

Yes, failure is our normal experience, which is NOT His aim.

I have to sleep. Goodnight Peter!
