...it's the so-called book and the success methodology behind it.

Simple question...what is the Christian consensus behind it. Currently, I have borrowed the book, and am studying it, with the intent to apply that knowledge.

Bear in mind, if the consensus here says it's wrong, I will likely still study it. I just care to seek a spiritual opinion.

It is pure new age. 100%. It teaches us that we create our world and reality by thinking and visualizing and speaking it into existence.
While it doesn't use this kind of obvious phrasing, it does essentially teach to avoid 'lesser' people because they will drag you down. And by 'lesser' they mean, if you want to lose weight, don't be around fat people. That kind of thinking.
The 'Universe' (another way of saying God for new agers. which, to them, God is not a being, but more of a concept, hence it being 'the universe') is here to give us what we desire, we just have to create it for ourselves by using non-biblical principles and selfish motives. Then the universe makes our wishes and visualizations happen for us.
Personally i wouldn't go near that book unless i had a lighter and gasoline.

I don't know a lot about it, but it seems to mimic - to a point - prayer.

I respect the notion of maintaining a positive outlook and being focused on achieving, though I can't say I buy into the concept that is: If a person appeals to some cosmic order long enough and hard enough, it will yield. It sounds so... narcissistic. Irrespective of what anyone petitions for, I believe that whatever will be, will be.

The world owes you nothing. It was here first. - Mark Twain

I haven't read it but it sits here on my bookshelf (I wasn't the one who bought it). I have seen video previews of it and to me it seems like nothing more than good old positive thinking... if you can see yourself achieving your goal and force yourself to believe it, you will eventually achieve it.

...its similar to the scripture that says "According to your faith, it will be done unto you." (Matthew 9:29)

But the big difference is when you do it with fath, you are trusting God to bring you to your goal... and when you do it with this book, you are believing that you don't need God or anyone else but yourself to acheive it.

I never heard of it so I can't offer an opinion. Judging from the previous members posts it sounds like it is new age, and, while it may appear to be helpful, it lacks a scriptural basis. It won't be on my summer reading list.

Try the book of revelation in the bible better still try the whole bible - that's God revealing himself to man and mankind's need for God - if you're not excited about the bible ask yourself by talking praying to God where you went wrong. #itsnosecret#itsrevelation#

It's still popular? I remember hearing about it 10 or so years ago. There was even a movie made about it (most probably for the moolah). But that's no secret.

Other way around -- there was a movie, which then turned into a book.

I appreciate the opinions given on the subject. It was also my opinion it was new age.

At the same time, I havent really received any experience or signs that enduring in Christ would bear fruit for me personally. I'm not going to wait and have my life destroyed for his sake. I'm going to give the principles a whirl, even if they are new-age.

I even prayed on it. Something compelled me to write a notepad text. The holy spirit gave me a warning. Here's the summary of it:

(This was the holy spirit moving in me, saying this)
"So, [Alexander], you've decided to throw dirt in God's face by studying "The Secret" eh?
You've decided to stand in rebellion and sought the worldly new-age alternative to wealth?

I guess you've made your decision, [Alexander].
You've clearly took a stand, and rejected the promises of the word of God

If you desire to utilize "The Secret", the LORD God will only tell you this once
'SO YOU ACCEPT THE POWERS, SO YOU ACCEPT THE RESPONSIBILITIES, SO YOU ACCEPT THE CONSEQUENCES'

Once more, you fool:
SO YOU ACCEPT THOSE POWERS
SO YOU ACCEPT THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES
SO YOU ACCEPT THE CONSEQUENCES

Jesus wanted nothing but the best for you.
The LORD God desired to make you a positive beacon of hope for those who struggled in faith
You basically stuck a knife in his back by embracing "The Secret" as a path of forward movement
And you laugh at me when the spirit promises you blessing and gain in faith.
C'est la vie, Alexandre, but again, your actions will have consequences. (For some reason, the spirit said some things to me in French. I dont know French)

The fact is, now in this period of time, you want to replace God's vision for you with "The Secret" and it's implementation, to leverage your future, and allow it to influence your future. I will state a very clear warning for you:

The LORD God was protecting you while you tried to get on your feet. You didn't think he could help. You currently have no job, no money, no forward movement, and yet, everyone you know seems to be moving forward. You've clearly communicated the LORD God the father is the villain who cursed you and destroyed your dignity. This is false, but you've
set your mind up. I cannot force you to change it.

I only pray...when you utilize this 'secret' to amass all your wealth and power, you find a way to repent before your physical death. You clearly stand against Jesus, and hate what you think he did to you, because you perceive him...God the Father...the LORD God...was holding you back from self-actualization. You thought the LORD God was toying with you and making you a court jester of life, and this is FALSE, but you currently have no ears to listen, or a heart to receive of the LORD.

God never toyed with you or tricked you, Alexander. The Road to the Kingdom is narrow and tough, and only few reach it. God was trying to get you to stop relying on the world, and rely 100% on him, but it's very clear you no longer care for him or his word, and that you're only objective is worldly success. If worldly success is required to show you how futile mammon & material is, then you elected for your own funeral.

Go ahead. See if it makes a difference. The LORD will hand you over to worldly success. The LORD will pray for your quick repentance once you see the misery of worldly wealth without God. The LORD will pray you let it all go once you gain it, and run back into the LORD's loving arms, to embrace you as the child of God you are.

The LORD understand why you are cutting him out. You chose this path. It's your funeral. Just remember...if you choose to play with golden fire, DO NOT GRIEVE to God that you burnt your hands. He will listen, but BOY your hands will hurt, and shall you receive relief then?

Every time you fall and get hurt with worldly riches, the LORD will redirect your blame and attention to your bank account, your cars, your homes, your likely false wife you're going to end up with, and the example of character you set for youself, and say "These burned you. These hurt you. I was trying to keep you away from these toxins of the soul. You chose to ignore me and mock me. SO YOU ACCEPTED THE POWERS, SO YOU ACCEPTED THE RESPONSIBILITIES, SO YOU ACCEPTED THE CONSEQUENCES. Give them all up and become poor of the world once again, and we can continue where we left off".

Stick to your decision, and when you understand the misery of ungodly wealth, I will be here to forgive you and welcome you back.

Adieu, bon homme Alexandre"

...that was what I felt the spirit say to me when I chose to engage in "The Secret".

I am going to utilize it to gain. Call me an idiot for wanting to challenge the misery of worldly wealth, but I refuse to live as a mockery of achievement in God. I hope God's right, and I hope I come to see worldly wealth as disgusting. I need to see it for myself.

Maybe I'm not remembering it very well, but I thought faith was still a facet in "The Secret," only instead of the Christian God, it was "the universe," or whatever higher function of charity people believe in.

Yeah, there is a reason for that. God was never about "What can I get out of him? What's in it for me?"

And then you haven't endured. You haven't yet even started, so you don't yet understand God at all. Just "ME."

Yours will be a fruitless life, even if you someday make it rich like you plan. Our true purpose is to be exactly what God designed us to be. Until you get that, don't expect beneficial fruit -- to give or get.

Skip seeing the world as disgusting. Take a look within. We ARE disgusting until God changes us. And yet, what do you want? To pretend you're into getting rich so God can prove you wrong.

Perchance, do you smoke a lot of weed? (No need to answer that. Really am getting you to look within.) The reason I ask is because the moment someone starts smoking weed regularly, their emotional growth is stunted. They're emotional maturity remains at that age they started. You sound like a young teenager, but you're not.

As I said before, "GIGO."

I'll see it for myself. I'm going to put God's blessing to the litmus test. I will be clear...I believe Jesus Christ is the son of God, who died on the cross for mankind's sins, was risen from the dead, and will come again to judge. I will NEVER EVER deny that. To me, it is truth.

At the same time, I want victory and achievement. But let's answer that question.

So God designed us to be something....my life, both as someone seeking Christianity, and someone who grew up roman catholic, and as someone who values growth and achievement in personal development, God has done a piss poor job edifying my position in life. He has been the equivalent of a useless fat whale who did jack squat for me, and I am now proactively taking my life in my hands, and utilizing new age methodology to get what I want.

I have taken internal retrospective. Nothing came of it. I'm throwing God to the side, and achieving my own success. If I'm wrong, then at least I KNOW, and I can say I am wrong and God is right from experience. I'm done trying to entertain God's lack of purpose for me in life. I'm done, and I'm taking the road of achievement to snub him, or, learn he was right, and repent. I will not tolerate loss anymore.

And yes, I smoked weed for about 2-3 years. Regularly. I stopped at 20 years of age. I've been clean for seven years. God didn't give me much of a good group of association growing up. I can easily blame him for surrounding me with drugs, but I wont.

That's that.
