Okay, so I'm worried that I did that. But I'm curious, if I really did do it. Wouldn't I have totally lost contact with the Holy Spirit? I mean it feels like my connection with is pretty weak(Like usual), but he's still there. I would absolutely want scriptures to support your answers...

Hi, here is a bit i posted before help it helps.

one thing to remember is that, we all wilfully deny Christ that is mans sinful condition (Romans 1:18-32; Eph 2) before we are saved we are all anti God!

However, the difference here as noted above is the attributing the works of the Holy Spirit (God) to the devil, and doing this through flagrant, wilfull rejection of God and His commands, this sin can oly be committed by unbelievers who deliberatly refuse/reject the calling to salvation by the Holy Spirit.

It is the persistant Blasphemy against the work of the Holy Spirit and not words spoken in haste. I myself before I was saved, blashemed, but not in the way described in Matthew, and I am sure if we are honest most of us did before becoming saved one way or another.

This passage is great, Jesus' power over the demons through the Holy Spirit (cf, Mt 3:16), He is the Messianic son of David, and in that we have the arrival of the Kingdom (inaugarated though not fully realized) Jesus binding the strong man (Devil) to gather His people to Himself. but the Pharisees with hate ascribe the good to the devil and mean it, and wilfully carry on in their belief disregarding the call to salvation.

Soli Deo Gloria

So I think you need to repent and stop beating yourself over the head with it.

I think blaspheming against the Holy Spirit resulted in the Fall - Adam and Eve sinned and did not confess or repent. Therefore their sin remained unforgivable. People who do no confess or repent have blasphemed against the Holy Spirit - a sin that is not confessed is not forgivable.

You really need to stop obsessing - how are you doing on the meds? Do you feel any difference?

The meds are helping some, but it's still a pretty weak dose... I'll probably getting a stronger dose on Friday.

Absolutely not. To blaspheme the Holy Spirit would be much more direct. Not that swearing is good.

The Spirit testifies that Jesus is risen from the dead. It is what he convicts us of, in our hearts. If we deny this testimony, refuse to believe that Jesus is raised from the dead, we are calling Him a liar. If one continues in this intentional denial of the revealed truth from the Spirit, it will not be forgiven them.

So why is the unforgivable sin called blasphemy the Holy Spirit if you don't actually say something bad about the Holy Spirit?

The word "blasphemy" came via Middle English blasfemen and Old French blasfemer and Late Latin blasphemare from Greek βλασφημέω, from βλάπτω = "I injure" and φήμη = "reputation". From blasphemare also came Old French blasmer, from which English "blame" came.

Blasphemy is irreverence[1] toward holy personages, religious artifacts, customs, and beliefs.

Irreverent mean lacking the proper respect or seriousness.

Remember what the Pharisee's had done when Jesus warned them about blasheming the Holy Spirit. They had openly said that the works of the Spirit were from Satan when they KNEW it was not. They did not respect the Holy Spirit and they blamed the acts of the Spirit on Satan.

So, I think it's best if you don't make jokes about the Holy Spirit, don't disrespect the Holy Spirit, and you treat the Holy Spirit with seriousness. God know our hearts. He knows when we are purposely trying to be disrespectful and when we've made an honest mistake. He knows when we are trying to be wicked, and when we are hurt and lashing out. I honestly think it takes more than just a comment or a joke to do something unforgivable. Jesus was very upset that the works of the Holy Spirit were being credited to Satan and the Pharisees were saying it to just be poopoo heads. If the Holy Spirit is still inside you, I think you are still good to go. But living a life of disrespect will not be tolerated.

Consider the Holy Spirit this way. If you were Jesus and wanted to give your followers the gift which would most let them know what you were thinking and feeling about them and everything around them, you would give them your heart. This is what Jesus has given to us. We do not want to insult His heart. We certainly do not want to disrespect the Spirit or belittle or insult Him.

So does any of this count as disrespect or blaspheming the Spirt?

1. This was around 3:00am when I was half alseep. For some reason some part(I don't think it was main part where I was activly thinking it). Anyway, some part of my mind said Holy Spirit d... it.... Obviously this one is my main concern...

2. I was talking to my friends about him. I was asking if he was like some sorta tool. I was only asking to learn more about him, not to insult him...

3. I kinda have a on and off think going in my mind where when I'm thinking about him, I keep think and like actively saying that he seems easy to insult compared to God and Jesus. Mostly because of that verse where it says that Anyone blasphemies the spirit won't be forgiven. Actually is he easy to insult?

If you want scripture that helps, remeber when Jesus said it is not easy for a man to cast out demons in my name and then say evil about me? It's sort of the same thing with the Holy Spirit. You can't easily be direspectful and malicious to the Holy Spirit if you've wanted it with all your heart. Even after the Pharisee's said what they did, Jesus WARNED them that blasphemy would be unforgiven, he didn't say they were unforgiven. Learning about the Holy Spirit is not going to be disrespectful. Sometimes we have to ask stupid questions to learn. The idea of speaking in tongues to me is still kind of strange because something like that would be considered, awkward and almost demonic in my household. Sometimes, when I do it, I'm worried that it isn't the Holy Spirit guiding me but that maybe I could be opening myself up to Satan. For a really long time I was worried that was Blaspheming the Holy SPirit, but it's not. I know in my heart that the gift of Tongues comes from the Holy Spirit, and that initial fear was Satan trying to twist the gift into something it wasn't. My fear was based on ignorance, on being brought up not knowing about the gifts of the HOly Spirit, not out of maliciousness or evil intent.

As for your examples...it's probably best not to curse using the Holy Spirit, and while I can see it being a bit disespectful, I don't see it as blasphemy. Were you maliciously trying to say that the Holy Spirit was an evil entity in the atempt to discredit It's Holy Gifts and bring people away from God? No, I don't think so. Still, it would be best to train your mind to keep things like that from happening.

The other two are absolutely not blaspheming. One is learning, which is a sign of respect. And no, if you are a saved Christian, and you love God, and you respect that the Holy Spirit is real and living within you, it's very hard to blaspheme the Holy Spirit. In fact, no one in the Bible ever actually did it. The Pharisees were being warned that they were coming awfully close though.

Any scripture showing where it says that I'm worried about, then I haven't commited it?
Here's some scripture. Paul said he was a blasphemer, but God forgave him because he did it in ignorance:

1 Tim 1:13:

even though I used to blaspheme the name of Christ. In my insolence, I persecuted his people. But God had mercy on me because I did it in ignorance and unbelief.

God knows your heart, Dothack, remember that. Nothing you do is done without God's knowledge and His knowledge of your intent. He woudl not have sacrificed His son and but Jesus through that entire ordeal to SAVE you if He was going to make it easy for you to do an unpardonable sin.

Lucky, I still can't speak in tounges...

Like I said, I'm pretty sure it was some part of my mind that I couldn't control that said it. Also let me put it this way. I think saying God... what I said about before to be a lot worse than the f word...

But he said the name of Christ, not the Holy Spirit...

That actualy is a good point. But I just wish that God would give me some sorta peace about this fear to tell me there's nothing to worry about...
