We are very much a culture where people do not take themselves too seriously.
Mocking is done in a light-hearted and jovial way, it is a form of being accepted, if you like.
It is very hard to express this "Australianism" when typing in a chat forum. However, I assure you that my intentions are pure.
I have many American friends who were initially shocked when confronted with the "real" Australia. However, all of them readily accepted it when they understood the sublimity and context of it.
The British are very similar to us, (understandably), which is the reason we incessantly tease each other during sporting events etc..
Also, most Aussies, refuse to just let things pass, especially if they are offended by it. You will generally be told and in no uncertain terms.
If that makes us un-Christ-like, then I offer little defense, except to say that we have never had a war on our soil, are generally considered one of the more friendly and free societies and enjoy a fantastic standard of living in the main.
Please don't be offended DZ, that was not my intention at all.
