I like your ideas better. I was the third of three, but the first girl. I spent most of my childhood in boys clothes after school, and it didn't bother me until some nice guy at the store wanted the cashier to serve "this young man" first. I was the young man!

I just ran into Balaam in my studies a couple of weeks ago. I've read the Bible many times before, but piecemeal. This time I'm starting at the beginning and keep going until I'm done, and I'm studying, not merely reading.
Because of that some names give me a feeling, even if I can't remember why. Balaam gave me a negative feeling, but I started the story and he seemed a nice enough guy. Sure, he skipped some of the bigger details when he let God show him what was supposed to happen. (He was supposed to tell the king that wanted to destroy Israel that Israel was God's people and then bless Israel, but he "forgot" the blessing part. I didn't notice. The commentators did.) But he spoke good things about Israel, and then next think I know, his donkey is giving him the what-for.
If the commentators didn't tell of how much of a jerk he was later, I'd be wondering why I had this feeling he's a jerk. lol
I've also always wondered why John the Baptist had to eat locusts... Was there any significance?
And speaking of John, even Jesus calls him great, why he had to have his head cut, what was the significance of that? It kinda scares me when thinking about missions and stuff. If John prayed and asked God to spare him from that kind of death, would God have granted it? Would he still be considered great then?

For a start why did the man / God etc dislocate Jacob's hip and why on earth did
people refuse to eat that part of the muscle/flesh because of that? Scratches head.

From what I have read, the Frankincense and Myrrh were worth far more than the gold would have been... especially the Myrrh.

There are many questions I wish I could ask God but I think a little mystery is good.
One thing I'd want to know is why did God make insects? Especially roaches and flies. Roaches creep me out so much and flies are so darn annoying. Insects are just so icky.

I don't get how God justice works when he treats people differently (ie "but for Cain and his offering he had no regard" )

VVhat did the apostles know of/believe that they were capable of healing all who were sick? Not them but the Lord through them. How do we get similar results?
