I've never understood how a "bastard" child in that time was even allowed into the temple, let alone, given the honor of reading from the Scriptures to the assembly.

Well, you know, he had siblings....

...bet they didn't have to wear hand-me-downs...

to be honest, I had NEVER thought of that.

Might have been like the cotton farmers in West Texas that won the lottery... when asked what they were going to do with all that money, they said, "I imagine we'll just keep on farming 'til it's all gone"

I think Melchizidek is one of the biggest mysteries in the whole bible.

Where did he come from? Where did he go? How did he get to be a priest and how did Abraham trust that he was?

I don't know about Melchizidek, except what is in Hebrews 7 and Genesis. Which isn't much at all.

Same with Enoch. More information would have been nice. Maybe less in Leviticus and more for Enoch and Melchizidek...
Yeah, and another guy that really confuses me is Balam. What in the world?

Every time something like this comes up I always think about what Aslan says in C. S. Lewis' The Horse and his Boy "Child, I am telling you your story, not theirs. No one is told any story but their own."

I've always wondered where Jesus' family's vast fortune went to. I understand that they had to finance their trip to Egypt and the few years they lived there, but what happened to all the rest of the expensive gifts the Magi brought?
HA.. excellent observation/question....

The spices were used for medicinal purposes. No idea what happened to the gold. I like your idea that it financed the trip to Egypt though.

I like your ideas better. I was the third of three, but the first girl. I spent most of my childhood in boys clothes after school, and it didn't bother me until some nice guy at the store wanted the cashier to serve "this young man" first. I was the young man!

I just ran into Balaam in my studies a couple of weeks ago. I've read the Bible many times before, but piecemeal. This time I'm starting at the beginning and keep going until I'm done, and I'm studying, not merely reading.

Because of that some names give me a feeling, even if I can't remember why. Balaam gave me a negative feeling, but I started the story and he seemed a nice enough guy. Sure, he skipped some of the bigger details when he let God show him what was supposed to happen. (He was supposed to tell the king that wanted to destroy Israel that Israel was God's people and then bless Israel, but he "forgot" the blessing part. I didn't notice. The commentators did.) But he spoke good things about Israel, and then next think I know, his donkey is giving him the what-for.

If the commentators didn't tell of how much of a jerk he was later, I'd be wondering why I had this feeling he's a jerk. lol

I've also always wondered why John the Baptist had to eat locusts... Was there any significance?

And speaking of John, even Jesus calls him great, why he had to have his head cut, what was the significance of that? It kinda scares me when thinking about missions and stuff. If John prayed and asked God to spare him from that kind of death, would God have granted it? Would he still be considered great then?

Lots of things I don't understand. Lol

For a start why did the man / God etc dislocate Jacob's hip and why on earth did
people refuse to eat that part of the muscle/flesh because of that? Scratches head.

Answers on a post card please.

Genesis 32:32 NKJV
[32] Therefore to this day the children of Israel do not eat the muscle that shrank,
which is on the hip socket, because He touched the socket of Jacob's hip in the
muscle that shrank.

I've always wondered where people got the idea that the Magi came to the stable, the night of the birth.

From what I have read, the Frankincense and Myrrh were worth far more than the gold would have been... especially the Myrrh.

Today a very small bottle of pure Frankincense oil costs around $70.00. Don't know about Myrrh.

They didn't...I think it is the fault of pictures and nativity scenes which depict it that way for ease sake.

There are many questions I wish I could ask God but I think a little mystery is good.

One thing I'd want to know is why did God make insects? Especially roaches and flies. Roaches creep me out so much and flies are so darn annoying. Insects are just so icky.

WHY, GOD, WHY? DID YOU DO IT FOR THE LULZ OR WHAT?

I don't get how God justice works when he treats people differently (ie "but for Cain and his offering he had no regard" )
Does that mean that I mean nothing to God just because I can't do things as perfectly as others?[/QUOTE]

No......................................... :)

God looks into our hearts, just as He did with Cain.

Agreed, but eventually someone will say he was Jesus............ sigh

I'm not sure that is a correct definition being used to describe Christ..........Joseph married Mary.........just saying......

I believe the definition of bastard is a child born to an unmarried woman right?

VVhat did the apostles know of/believe that they were capable of healing all who were sick? Not them but the Lord through them. How do we get similar results?

Acts 5:16 King James Version (KJV)

16 There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

There was a spider crawling on my brother in law's car and the Holy Spirit said, "Beautiful." VVhere as we may have a fear of spiders, He simply said beautiful. He was speaking of life.
