Wanting a new Bible

Hey Folks!


My next paycheck is next week and Im weighing my options as to getting a new bible. I've had a NIV since was 10. But now Im looking at maybe a NKJV or an EVS. Regardless of translation I want a Study Bible but I want to see what yo all think about what translation is best for a man going into study to be a missionary? Please let me know your thoughts
 
My favorite version is NKJV. I've read many other versions but I seem to find deeper meaning in the reading of this bible. I absolutely recommend a study bible but don't rely strictly on the study aids rather than the actual reading of the verses. The study aids can enhance the light but it is not the light. The Word of God is.
 
The ESV Study Bible is amazing and very informative. As a translation I prefer the NKJV because the words "flow" better, but I don't know as much about that study Bible.
 
I don't have one myself, but I've spent hours poring over the ESV Study Bible. It's an excellent Bible. I highly recommend it. I'll be buying myself a copy sometime in the future.
 
I wouldn't know, honestly lol But I've read the KJV until it fell apart. I've read an NIV, NLT, and NKJV. I've listened to the ESV. Go ESV. My fave is NLT.

OR, you could go to a thrift shop and get a few used ones for like 2 bucks a piece.
 
you could view parallel bibles at Biblegateway to get some idea what they're like
 
Yeah check out the bible versions online first and see. I have a couple bibles, NKJV and an ESV, although I kinda feel bad for not reading them, because everything is online lol. There's bible.com or the YouVersion app.

I would go with something I could easily understand, just to get the whole story - the easier to read versions like the ones I mentioned, NKJV and ESV. For specific study purposes, I'd suggest going for the closest to accurate version (and this is subjective) like the revised, ASV, NASB, or KJV.
 
There are things called 'comparative' bibles. they have more than one version in them. Called the side by side bibles. They have two or three versions all in one bible. That can make for a great study bible.

If you have an Ollies near you, I reccomend checking there. GREAT price on bibles and books in general. That is where I saw the comparative bibles that got my attention.

My thoughts? The last time I researched good study Bibles you were just starting school. Do you really want my advice? It's old! lol

The NKJV and the Revised Authorised Version (which is no longer available) are my 2 favourites and which I would (and have) use(d) over many years.

I have dozens of different Bibles and quite often refer to them when wanting to get a better understanding of what I'm reading.

When choosing a Bible that you want to use as the one you refer to most, read as many as you can and then see what one you get on with best...

KJV isn't all that accurate, nor is the ASV, but the NASB is is very accurate. As is the ESV.

I trust the King James Version.
The NASB is post tribulational which is the wrong doctrine and people are going to be deceived because there are consequences to falls beliefs.

The KJV is still God's Word, there's just far better translations now. Also, I have no problem with people who read the KJV. I have problems with people who say all other translations are evil. Also, I don't use the NASB myself, the translation doesn't flow terribly well. Also, I don't believe in post-tribulational anything. I use a variety of translations to better understand God's Word.
 
It's a personal choice. If the NKJV or the ESV speak best to you, or you understand them better, go with your preferred choice between the two.
 
I have a couple of friends who are much more into this nit-picking than I am, and they both say the NRSV is way ahead of the others.
