Hi. I am reposting this question I did in that other (elders\=) thread, ok. might get faster ans. here. tnx.

Can someone suggest light exercise for a senior citizen in 80s who needs to reduce waistline? I think person could breathe/move better if some lbs are lost, although person is not really overweight. With diabetes and macular degeneration.. i mention this last in case someone also has natural suggests to help deal w/ that. Thanks.
There are many things they could do, depending on the shape they're in. You want low-impact cardio exercises. Walking would be the best place to start(15-30 minutes per day). Walking is easy to do and they can do it at their own pace. If they can swim and have access to do so, that in my opinion would be the very best option.

A light medicine ball(5 pounds or less) could also work the abdominal area. Have them sit straight in an armless chair with the ball extended in front of them, then exhale as they bring it up over their head - inhaling as they bring it back to the starting position. You could also get one of those rubber dumbbells(2-5 pounds) and use it in the same way.

If you have stairs or a step, they can bring one leg onto the step, lift the other but don't put it down - hold that position for 3-5 seconds and then switch legs. That's good for legs and stability.

Just make sure they're stretching to increase range of motion and add things to increase strength and stability along with the cardio.

Thank, bruce, shine. I really appreciate that. Cant swim, but we did want to go for a soak esp in this heat... the other day temp. in metro manila was 37.7 deg. I know still cooler than in other parts of the country and the world. but not cool at all.

ah, and I got to measure water temp.at home also-- wc was 40! Of course u can fill drums, pails (no bathtubs here-) and wait to cool, but at the pool with water just changed, I suspect it was about the same temperature...

I had to convert the temp, but yeah that is a little hot lol. It's still pretty nice here, but we'll definitely have temps like yours before long. Hope you stay cool!

But it was so timely pool water was just changed so we cannot do anything if not hop to the next resort, wc I do not hear has changed, or changes its water that often. Hey lady! Sorry, it's a day late! I just saw this question. Okay, so here are my suggestions. You asked:
"What is the 'healthy' pounds per month the body should lose?"
I would say 1-2 pounds per week is very healthy. I would highly recommend you to weight yourself once a week at the same time (not every day) because your weight will go up and down. My weigh in's are on Mondays at 7am. However, even though 1-2 pounds is healthy, some people may lose more and that doesn't necessarily mean it's "unhealthy". As long as you are eating right and working out and trying to lose weight, you'll do it. Sometimes it goes off fast, sometimes it doesn't.

Does grapefruit really work? Eating it lol I used it on my skin lol
Um, what have you heard about grapefruit? I don't like the taste of it so I don't eat it. Lol. However, grapefruit is very good for you so yes. Just make sure not to eat too many fruits. Sometimes it can cause weight gain. Make sure to have balanced meals. WE can message and I can show you what that looks like :)

Is the old fashioned crunches still ok?
Of course! And nah, you don't have to buy any expensive equipment to tone. I have a few workouts to share with you if you are interested that doesn't require any equipment. I also encourage you to also do some cardio. I used to walk a mile every day and lost 20-25 pounds in 3 months WHILE eating a 1200 calorie diet.

Here... sometimes after I post and read again, I kind of think the wording was awkward and wish could make it better. I was only saying we had to stay put even with the warm/hot water, because the place-- and a friendly woman there more than makes up for the hot pool water.

As some of you know, I am a fitness coach as well as a life coach. Fitness and being healthy is something I am very passionate about. I am already working with some people to push them to get to their goals.

I wanted to start this to see who else is into fitness? What are some things you do in order to get healthy? I'd love to hear your stories on here on how you wanted to get healthy. I want to hear all about your success stories as well :) I have lost 80 pounds!

Tell me all the stories.[/QUO

I'm getting back into my workouts. Work hours makes it hard. But I started out slow with swimming and steam room/Jacuzzi to help with recovery/soreness. 2 or 3 days a week for the most part since beginning of 2016. Feeling a lot better and stronger. Just started working on elliptical machine and some ad machines, just to warmup. I feel my stamina increasing and feel I can do more eventually. (I went too hard with weights a few weeks ago and discovered it was too much and fast for my over 40 body....20yr old Des would have had know problem with it, but 40+ Des body said "Don't do that again..." Lol

That's what it's evolving into for me (and also why I had to stop working out with other people).

So what do you like to do, Siberian?

I've been trying a new routine, just to keep things fresh. I've been doing two workout sessions - lifting/cardio - 2 or 3 hours apart in the same day, then taking a rest day. I don't think I'll keep doing it every other day for long, but it's allowed me to be a little more intense in my workouts knowing that I can rest the next day. It's sometimes good to change things up a little bit. :)
