I think voting for this poll is going to be harder for me than voting in the General Election for President...

Haha, its simple enough. Do you believe the gifts of the Spirit are still active today and people still operate in those gifts for the edification of the body of Christ, or do you believe that such gifts (especially sign gifts of tongues, prophecy and healing) have ceased and are no longer operational in the body of Christ?

I believe that they are still continuing though trying to sort out the false prophets from the true ones can be difficult. Though there is a checklist in one of the OT books saying that even a false prophet could get a prophecy correct but if they deny God also, then there is a problem and they are still false. Tongues still boggle me though. I do not discount that they are still happening and I do not like some people trying to use it against others. I also was skeptical about street healing ministries but then I checked out a group that either I googled or someone pointed out to me and all of a sudden I was like, this has to be real. The name of the Youtube channel is The Normal Christian Life and they are stationed in Australia. It is meat for the more mature believer, I believe. There were people being healed of various physical problems, demons being cast out, etc. It was freaky and awesome at the same time. I am not a Charismatic or a Pentecostal though. As for the prophet and apostle label, it should be used with discretion and also one must define what they mean by they are a prophet or an apostle. Thanks. God bless. :)

I know of that channel, I find they don't post frequently or active enough for my taste but I do enjoy their videos. You should check out Tom Loud on Youtube, he has 188 videos on His channel and a majority of them are videos of him going out healing the sick in Jesus name. People's legs growing out to fix back pains and people getting instantly healed of all kinds of pain and issues (like people walking with crutches and then not needing them).

I actually made a list for a friend on here of Youtube channels that go out healing the sick, if you want the channels let me know and I'll PM the list to you. :)

As for the prophet and apostle label, the service is more important than the label. VVhat good is it to be called a prophet and yet not give prophecies that give hope and extend the heart of God? Apostle? VVhat good is to have such a title and yet you aren't building churches and placing people in areas they can grow? The title is nothing without the service. That was God's response to me inquiring about if I was in an office. He emphasized the service provided over a title.

I think that your point is somewhat insulting . Cannot one post a thread and just have those respect the post and not answer to it or stay in context.

Hey CS1, As a mom myself, I get where psychomom is coming from and she makes a good point. Being an active participant on the forums only a short time (2 yrs maybe) I've seen some major giant blow ups too. And it's almost funny the question you asked;

Cannot one post a thread and just have those respect the post and not answer to it or stay in context.[/QUOTE]

Sure., one can, but does one always? nope. It's what we shoot for in theory and work towards but there is always a chance for a bomb to blow.
 ...such is the nature of the forums.

Besides, how could anyone be insulted at the usual and caring way psychomom presents her concerns? And I think you are right to be concerned psychomom. Just look how many people would not even add their vote. It seems like lots of people prefer to plead the 5th on the grounds that it might later incriminate them later.
 I wondered if I should vote but decided this was a good poll and I trust Bens motives behind it. Although there were many times I have not chosen to vote on these poll threads put up by some others.

And anyway., we do look out for Ben here. Ya gotta love the guy!! He is 25 and our motherly natures tend to come out where he is concerned.
:D

Oh., by the way., I'm a- what was it called?.... continuationist. I'm more of an up and coming continuationist. Still learning and in awe of Jesus working in the lives of His people today.

Did psychomom quit? She is a guest and no longer has an avatar (on her posts to this thread). :( I can't even click on her name to go to her profile.

So.. I voted with BenFTW's help... and I would accurately describe myself as either a Continuationist or a Continuationist, but... I believe that any miracles are still completely possible... and that when Christ said "You can say to this mountain get up and move yourself if you have enough faith" has not expired. There very well could be people who can heal others, or cast out demons... IE, do "Biblical" things today... they're just not sensationalized because they don't need to go out and "prove" their point to others. It's Ask, Seek, Knock... not "wait for someone to go show you" lol. My 2 cents.

Shalom... it seems to me that the overall theme in the scriptures is redemption and restoration of mankind... that said it also seems to me that our creator has chosen mankind to be part of that plan, not just the ones being rescued, but also playing an active role in that process.
He has , and continues to, provide every possible means by which mankind can be restored into His image AND likeness, and has left nothing undone that will serve to accomplish this goal, the gifts are not only manifest daily but are possessed by each and every believer, the difference is , the ones who knowingly and intentionally yield to His will, and are aware of the operation of his hands will manifest these gifts by His power from a loving and humble heart to seek and save that which is lost, the ones who believe but choose not to yield are used sure enough but not near as effectively as the ones who do.
also if our God gave all to us in the person of his son, why would he chose to take away or discontinue things needful for a dark and dying world? these are just my thoughts, no intention on my part to cause contention....

Do y'all have ears to hear and eyes to see, that for one person to receive salvation is a miracle, Especially a Muslim or a young man or women that has never been to church.

I think if we try hard enough,
we can earn all of the gifts.

Through water-baptism. :D

SOORRRY! THAT was an uncalled for attempt at humor,
and the perpetrator should be severely scolded.

I apologize for any funniness or comedic interruptions,
especially in the light of the seriousness of it all,
and all that sort of thing.

Besides which,
everyone knows that water-baptism
isn't required to get spiritual gifts.

It's only required to get salvation. :p

NOW SEE???!!!
That's just not acceptable christian-type behavior!!!

(Gotta admit, it was kinda funny, though)

(and that's all it was meant to be) ;)

I grew up in the Lutheran church and I still attend one. I used to be an almost cessationist (I'd seen too many abuses of spiritual gifts and believed most of it was manipulation - so in my 'discernment' I steered clear of any of that stuff). These past few years I've grown a lot in Holy Spirit and have become more of a continuationist.

Again do you have eyes to see and ears to hear to say that we must be baptized in water is the same thing as saying that the cross of Christ is not enough and therefore died in vain. If we must do a work, God will not accept it. the only thing that God will accept is faith in the work of His son. What part of it is finished do you not understand?

The reason they don't post as much is because they are limited on the technical side, in fact one of the videos they asked for help in that regard that is why some of the conferences do not have videos for certain sessions due to this limitation. Also, they do not have one person who solely contributes to the maintaining of the Youtube page and posting videos, plus not every channel is always active, people have lives outside Youtube. People get sick, technical issues occur, etc. Though I probably am not going to subscribe to anymore channels, since I already subscribe to a lot of them already. This has nothing to do with this, but I really wish that on Youtube, the Liked videos button was not in the Library section but was in another place on the top left corner. Thanks. God bless. :)

Okay, Ben what has ceased?
If you look at the vote, I selected "I am a continuationist." None of the gifts have ceased, is my belief and biblical stance.
