Thats what i keep hearing but where are the scriptures that say this. I cant find em. I have found plenty of scriptures that say Christians are to keep Gods law AND the faith in Jesus. We can never be saved simply by keeping the law as we all have fallen short. We are saved by the grace of God alone. Big question is...is there something we must do in order to recieve this free gift of grace?

I think those that are trying to keep the law are saying that GOD doesn't change and the same GOD that spoke In the old testament Is the same GOD that spoke In the new testament,

so then since GOD doesn't change,we should try to keep the law also.

Thats not how I feel about It but IMO that Is their reasoning.

Yes, God never changes, but His Covenant did! :)

Simply study of scripture will show those who think the law is to be followed will find the truth. The law is for the "unrighteous", and the unrighteous are those that have not come to Christ by faith alone.

1 Timothy

The law is only good if used in the right context. (1 Timothy 1:8) (see next verse for the context)
It was made for the unrighteous but not for the righteous. (1 Timothy 1:9-10)

Amen!

Romans 3:21-25
[SUP]21 [/SUP]But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
[SUP]22 [/SUP]Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
[SUP]23 [/SUP]For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
[SUP]24 [/SUP]Being justified FREELY by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

[SUP]25 [/SUP]Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

Amen..I agree.

Then the question comes up. How are we to live if it's not by rules and the keeping of laws?

Can we really trust the Holy Spirit inside us to lead us in this life? Can we really trust that when we were raised with Christ to newness of life, we will be able to trust His life in us?

Can we really trust in the love that the Holy Spirit poured into our hearts when we believed - that this love and allowing His love to flow through and in us - will this be enough?

These are questions we need to ask ourselves and to the Lord. Do we really trust in what You have done for us and now we can live by grace through faith in all that You have done.

Colossians 2:6-7 (NASB)

[SUP]6 [/SUP] Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him,

[SUP]7 [/SUP] having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude.

That is very convincing. But what laws are those verses talking about? Jesus gives us rules we have to follow. Which ones are we exempt from?

what are you asking,

which ones we HAVE to follow to be saved?

Or which ones we should follow because they are in our best interest?

What scripture gives a "rule" that we are to follow to be saved? Could you quote any for me? Then we might be able to discuss this.

I think this is the entire key. Keep any kind of law you can find for yourself, if you feel you want to, but do not think (nor try to lay upon anyone else) that those laws MUST be kept in order to qualify for, and pay for, the FREE GIFT of Salvation.

Uh....... does it perhaps have to do with TWO things, and both of them being "loving?" LOL

No need to be snobbish, you have misunderstood. These commands are not to be saved, but are given to those who are ALREADY saved! You cannot PRODUCE a fruit of the Spirit, you can only bear fruit of the Spirit. The only way to do that is by having the Spirit indwelling you.

I wouldn't be surprised If they were to begin to think of "If you love me then keep my commandments"

The question I would want to ask before discussing this Is,Is this talking about keeping his commandments under law or Is this talking about keeping his commandments under grace?

Matthew 5:18-19
For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”

Jesus sounds pretty convincing on the law. when i have doubts i go back to Jesus and what He taught.

Did you read the scripture about the law being a tutor to unbelievers, but after believing, they are no longer under the law? Maybe it would be a good idea to stop and actually read the scripture references.

The law under grace is not for salvation, it's for those already saved. Keeping any law for the intent to be saved or maintain salvation is impossible. Unbelievers can only be obedient to one thing, which is to believe the gospel. Believers can only be obedient through dependence on Him, same way we are saved. But no amount of obedience either saves or maintains salvation for anyone. Never has.

Amen...great question!..and the other question is ..."Just what are the commandments of Jesus?"

A very big factor in looking at scripture is the "lens" you use to view the scripture.

In the Old Covenant " you had to do or else"..If you do this..then I God will do that.." = conditional on the person performing

New Covenant = Jesus has done it for you which empowers you to "do"

Here are these 2 mindsets.

Jesus said.." If you love Me, you will keep My commandments"

Old Covenant mindset = conditional on the person "doing"..so they would read it this way.."IF you love Me you will keep My commandments"

..in their mind this verse is saying.."Keep My commandment and this will prove you love Me." Conditional

New Covenant mindset = it's a description of who you are in Christ . they would see this "Jesus' love is in me so I keep His commandments"

..it stems out of relationship , it is the very life of Christ flowing out of us because of our new creation in Him.

It is not conditional but descriptive of the believer's true nature because they are in Christ
.
