Is chess evil?

Since some people on here like declaring almost everything evil...I would like to suggest chess fall into this category...

One, it is based on deception...both players are trying to devise 'traps' for their neighbor...

Two, both players are trying to kill the others king, or pieces...

Three, it feels really bad when someone takes your pieces, so why would you di it for them...

This is kind of based on my other philosophy that 'most sports are based on deception'...

But truly with chess, though sometimes I like to play it, it is a game that kind of only feels good when you win--hatch a devise plot that kills the other's king before they capture yours...

Just thoughts...

I thought you trap the king, not really kill it. Anyways, I don't think chess is evil.

I'm thinking that the chess pieces made up of witches, goblins, etc, might be evil. But a standard chess set is OK. By the way the black and white checkerboard pattern is found in Masonic Temples, so yes chess is evil.

this is ridiculous........really this forum is all the time about what is "evil" and debating it...... can we not just lift something up?? maybe talk about something that has brought a body some peace?? or some fun?? or some joy??

Not if you make evil words Abing, like witch, or magic. Although a word like sorcery would get you to use up all your letters wouldn't it and get 50 points bonus?

I agree with you, Abing. Chess is NOT evil.

It is a game of stratagies. Very similar to Checkers in that regard. I haven't played either one for years so I am more than likely the easiest person to beat at those games. [/COLOR:p

I think thefightinglamb has made a very valid point. For those advocates of Harry Potter and Star Wars being evil, can you please justify why chess is not evil?

Chess is a game, harry potter is witchcraft , and starwars is idolatry u must trust in the force, the force makes u better. there is no good witches and bad witches there all bad in God's eyes. starwars is just a movie however and as long as we realize this, it's probably not as harmful as harry potter.

but notice here also that hatred is listed along beside these two witchcraft, idolatry, hatred, prayer for people you know in all these, do not hate them or think yourself any better
