waiit..

For those advocates of Harry Potter and Star Wars being evil, can you please justify why chess is not evil?

how is chess associated with harry potter and star wars?!?!
In the sense that they are all forms of entertainment, not to be taken seriously. Is there a difference between reading a story or watching a film of witchcraft (arguably a form of evil) and playing a game of chess (with the aim of deception).

Is it worse to actually partake in the act of deception or to read/watch and not partake in witchcraft?

Monopoly encourages greed. Clue endorses murder. Risk romanticizes war and trivializes the loss of human lives. Candyland forces children into lives of wanton gluttony. And don't get me started on Mystery Date. The worst of all is Pop-o-Matic Trouble. Just what kind of "Trouble" are you trying to entice us into, Milton-Bradley?

Proving once again that everything enjoyable is bad for you.
LOL!!! sorry but that is funny :D

Chess is more a game of stratagy than deception. The object is to capture your opponent's king. Both people who are playing the game KNOW the objective so how can it be a game of deception?

Witchcraft is evil. Aliens from other planets are evil. Chess is evil. Cheese is evil. What is going on here? Are we now getting involved in a witch hunt?
What's next? Is it going to be Medical Science and technology is evil too? Or how about people who disagree with you or people from other cultures?
Come on people. Give it a rest already! This is not only getting old; it's getting reduclious!

Okay so how this thought came around...is that I went to a chess club and was playing some older guy that was pretty good...

And after losing like 7 games in a row to him...I started feeling pretty bad...I mean I was just handing him my queen in the end of the latter games...So, as we were playing the eight game I looked into his eyes and saw something that looked very similiar to a greedy spirit--it really looked evil...It was like I could see him scheming his evil plot to catch me...

And honestly I don't feel too good when I capture someone else's piece, I took his queen once kind of craftily and I think I apologized--I think that even happened in the eighth game...

But honestly in chess, you have two people wasting their minds and hearts, constantly contemplating "will he see my trap? Hahahaha, he didn't see it...or oh no he saw it...I got to scheme another one..."

I REALLY do think chess just teaches people to scheme...and monopoly as well...I always feel like laughing when I am winning in monopoly and someone else knows what numbers they can get and can't get to survive, and if they get the wrong number and count each square until they land on a hotel on Boardwalk...I feel like rolling on the floor...but when it happens to be I feel horrible, like grrr...I also think that game where you try to get other people to believe your lie particluarly disheartening...

Once again, just thoughts...
God bless
tony

ps...when I was in college, I remember some famous nun (does any one know who she is) who spoke out for women's right to speak their faith in the catholic church, but then recanted and said she would follow the church's stance (even on things like not allowing a women to be well educated?)...anyway, in that work she writes that some priest told her that cheese slows the mind and makes one less precise and clear in life...I promise you this is true...I forget who the lady was thoug...she was from south america or mexico or somewhere south of the us...

Guys... Seriously. I am so tired of hearing about how Harry Potter is evil because it is about witchcraft. First of all real witchcraft could not be any farther from what happens in the Harry Potter universe, other than the label "witch."

Harry Potter: A fantasy that is fun for all ages, with an ingenious plot and characters we care about.
Real witchcraft: A pointless ritual that does nothing of any importance to anyone, but which at one point in history was perceived as a problem because people were superstitious back then.

I ask you: Are we superstitious now? Are we fools who lack the intellectual capacity to grasp the fact that Harry Potter has absolutely no capacity for demonic influence on anyone who is sane? Come on, people. Some of you guys are ridiculous.
