So, on my way to church this morning, before 5AM, I took a cab and the cab driver and I got into an interesting conversation. He asked why I was travelling to a mall (church venue is in a shopping mall) so early. So I told him I was going to church to help set up (mind you, I live in Singapore where most people are either Hindu or Buddhist and majority wouldn't always understand the term ministry, unlike in Western countries). He started babbling on about how, when he was younger he was taught to pray to God, then to Jesus, then to Mary (he was a Catholic). He said that, Jesus, to him, was only a prophet, just like Muhammed (he's a buddhist, actually) and a buddhist prophet (who's name I don't recall, it started with an S but not siddhartha).

Anyway, long story short, he had me listening to his preaching and I didn't know what to say. First, he's an old Chinese guy. When he started telling me about his version of Jesus' history (which was twisted), I tried to correct him but he wouldn't let me because he wasn't finished talking (and I grew frustrated). Also, knowing their culture, it's very offending to them to be taught by people younger (and I am). So I let him babble on and on while I was lost in my thinking...

Was there any way for me to have handled the discussion into giving him the accurate history of Jesus? I'm asking because, it's not the first time, and I always find myself, just letting them continue with what they thought was true. I knew it wasn't but I couldn't say anything! Why?! How to deal with this? Sigh.

Isn't though? I think in America we take advantage of the fact that most people have at least heard of God.
You can point out that you believe God was the savior of our world. Then ask if they know what a bible is. And that's its His word. Then scriptures showing what Christ did for us. Romans road of pretty easy. .
I vary from that depending on the need. Its Ok.
We all have to learn to adjust in those sorts of convos.

Some people you just can't reach no matter what you say. There is absolutely nothing wrong with sharing the truth with them and hopefully planting a seed, but they need to be ready to hear it. I don't know how many times I beat myself up in the past thinking, "if I had only said something or said this instead of that, they would have listened," but that is not usually the case. Sometimes the Holy Spirit leads me to speak to someone and gives me the words to say and other times it's like the Holy Spirit is telling me to not waste my pearls.

That makes sense. If it's God's will, He would give me the words to speak.

well, when I have found myself in a similar situation...I pray and bind any spirits that would prevent the person from hearing and responding to the gospel...quietly of course and in Jesus name

it can be difficult when people have been exposed and or indoctrinated to who knows how many or exactly what type of teaching and the Bible is clear that the 'god' of this world, blinds people to the truth

I think we forget sometimes that we have that authority in Jesus name...it's not about power, it's about truth

yes..I've seen it 'work' ... just something you might try or not

Yeah did Buddha die for you, did Muhammad die for you, or did Mohammed start a war and sleep with a 9 year old girl. Did Mohammed say love your enemies or cut off their heads. Serve Allah or die. Yes I know the catholic church did the same back in the day, which proves that Catholicism is not true Christianity.

I agree with mailmandan's answer to a degree, but if your conversee is talking about faith, sometimes it is right to just say "you are wrong", If you keep saying it they might just ask you to explain. If it causes offence then it does, don't be overly forceful, just quietly and unequivocally stand your ground.

Our God is the only one we or anyone else has a personal relationship with. We don't need priests or rituals, we don't need to work ourselves up into a frazzle or make offerings to get His attention, we just have to be honest and real and ask Jesus to make Himself known. He is big enough to sort anyone out.

I have spent some "us" time with my youngest today, we went to see a 'dare devil stunt event' this afternoon, with monster trucks, hot dogs and cans of pop.
My arms are burning after 4 hours of sun, and my cheeks and forehead are on fire LOL. I wont forget the factor 50 next time, God is good!

Praise report: After nearly 7 months of being lost outside in the wilderness, Sole (pronounced so-lay) the collie is FINALLY back home with her much-relieved owner. This dog has been through alot since she left home before Christmas, including being to the point of starving, and being injured somehow. Thank you Lord, for leading Sole home!!!!!

Actually with the A/C on max the inside of the car feels like Alaska.
