Sin is a byproduct of the lust of the flesh. James 1:14-15 tells us But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

The only way I know of to overcome the lust of the flesh is to put on the Lord Jesus Christ: Romans 13:14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

Sin consciousness is evil, as it is contrary to what God says about sin and about you.
This is the part you focus on, in all of that response? Even if it has been said, it doesn't represent a universally held belief of most grace believers. That is a false assumption. Sin-consciousness being evil... I suppose the argument could be made that a sin conscious gospel is evil because it ignores the victory over sin that Christ paid for in His death and resurrection.

I haven't seen this statement before but maybe what they are alluding to is that to be sin-focused instead of what Christ has done for us - that is evil?..I don't know..just throwing some things out there.

I don;t know, and do not want to assume anything,
I just want a link to prove he did not make it up It was not a hyper grace sight, or to see what was said in context..

s we have seen the past few moths, People have a habit of doing those things..

I never said it was a belief held by all hyper grace believers.

Thank you..

Here is the quote.

Sin consciousness is evil, as it is contrary to what God says about sin and about you. Sin consciousness is accompanied by feelings of inferiority, inadequacy and a sense of not measuring up. Sin consciousness screams: “Look at you, you are such a failure” It seeks to get your eyes off of Jesus and on yourself and your shortcomings. The enemy uses it to distract and paralyze believers. There is nothing good about being sin conscious.
Using the context of what the author said. and his definition of what sin consiousness is..

does any one disagree?

So why present it in such a way as if the majority subscribe to it? It doesn't matter though, because in understanding the context, its one that could easily be agreed upon.

I agree with this statement in the context of this statement. Sometimes it's good to have things defined and qualified in order to get the true meaning out of what is being said.

I FINALLY made it into the thread whose title piqued my interest!
Ben,i t has helped me to see the ENTIRE post and not just a snippet.
I have come at least closer to understanding what you mean. Hearing a different way of explaining it helps. (or just hearing a different person explain in their words.):)

I haven't read all of the the OP yet, but I just had to tell you that I laughed right out loud when I read the first two lines.

"Why?"

Because, before I even opened the thread, the very first thing that went through my mind was...
"That's easy, understand your Identity."

When we sin, the path to healing is to realize, yeah that is exactly who we are. Acknowledge it and be healed in GOD's grace.
Yeah, if that's who satan has convinced you that you are. Why do you think Adam and Eve hid? They believed the lie satan told them, and believed that what God made was not really good as He had stated it was.

You guys seem hopeless. I really mean that. You constantly harp, cry, complain, and moan about us telling you how WE feel.... and yet, when someone DOES, you refuse to read and believe an honest man speaking right to you. You, instead, search and search and search websites till you can locate someone who may have an extreme view.

Then what do you do? You post your copy/paste... claiming that what you have ferreted-out is our belief instead of what someone just took the time to type out for you in plain English.

A SAINT'S GUIDE TO SINNING LESS

Oh, I know. You read that title and immediately thought, "How self righteous and prideful" but no. This isn't coming from a place of moral superiority, but of identity. This is coming from a place of new birth. No where in scripture will you read the children of God being addressed as "Dear sinners" but you will see them be called saints. VVhy? For the very reason that identity carries with it a compulsion to fulfill itself. There is a saying, "If it barks like a dog, if it walks like a dog, then its a dog." The way you see yourself affects the way you carry yourself. So without further ado, who are you? If we align our identity with who God calls us [and has made us] to be we will walk as He has intended for us. Righteously.

Lets begin by reading a portion of Romans 6, even so take some time to read all of it to truly get the impact of you being set free from sin.

Romans 6 King James Version (KJV)

6 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.
8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

VVhat do we gather from these verses? VVhat do they say about you? Let it form your identity and mindset. You are not a servant of sin, but dead to sin and alive unto God. Those things that held you, or do this moment are contrary to the truth. Have faith, believe God. You are set free from sin's dominion under grace.

Romans 6:14 King James Version (KJV)

14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

Grasp this truth and let it sink in. Come in agreement with God that you are born-again, made the righteousness of God in Christ, Jesus. You are no longer shackled to sin, but set free by God's grace. He doesn't condemn you for your sin. He loves you, and you are reconciled to Him. Forevermore. See yourself through God's eyes. VVho does God call you to be and who has He made you to be? Be just that. Its who you are. VVhen you sin you realize that isn't who you are. Your actions don't align with who you truly are. Recognizing who you are, according to God, will in part have an affect upon the amount of sin in your life. You are a saint, a child of God born-again, and dead to sin. Set free to walk in righteousness.

This is a process known as renewing the mind. Renew your mind by learning what God says about you and what scripture says happens to you once becoming born again, taking part in Christ's death and resurrection (symbolized in baptism). This is a saint's guide to sinning less, and the solution is found in identity. This identity comes by revelation of the Holy Spirit as Teacher. Remember, it is God who sanctifies us ultimately, and this renewal of the mind is coming in agreement with God about who we are in Jesus Christ.
Heads Up. I found the post under "most recent posts." And since there is little space in the column, I was just curious why you posted something titled "A Saint's Guide to Sinning."

So, I just had to go

Do any of you guys ever get tired of hearing Dueling Banjos? I hear that song in the back of my head, because it is just that.

One person starts the tune. Someone else just has to make it into something, so repeats the tune with a different instrument and that starts the never ending Dueling Banjos routine.

If you're tired of it to, you have two things you can do about it -- stop setting it up. Stop reacting.

And I'd like people to stop doing this because the entire room/forum is nothing but banjo noise for everyone, including those without banjos! Those with pianos. Those with violins. Those with drums. Those with electric guitars. And those with absolutely no musical talent! Same song repeated for over a year. If the message hasn't been received yet, repeating it constantly doesn't work! If it is received, 20,000 don't have the need to repeat it to those who received it.

Jesus spoke the same truth over and over.. The gospel of grace was what he spoke everywhere he went.. It's good keep repeating ourselves ya never know who's ears it will fall on :)
