Donald Trump tweeted a blatantly anti-Semitic image Saturday morning, causing an immediate backlash online and further confirming the Republican nominee is willing to sink to depths well beyond usual, acceptable bounds of politics.

The tweet, posted at roughly 8:30 a.m., featured a picture of
Hillary Clinton pasted over a backdrop of $100 bills with a six-pointed star — the Jewish Star of David — next to her face.
“Most Corrupt Candidate Ever!” the star read.

THE HUFFINGTON POST

This is not a dog whistle. It’s not subtle. It is anti-Semitic imagery aimed at a candidate who isn’t even Jewish.

Clinton’s campaign could not immediately be reached for comment.

The irony, of course, is that Trump has Jewish relatives. His daughter Ivanka converted to Judaism when she married Jared Kushner, who is Jewish himself. Their kids are Jewish too. Trump even has a number of
Jewish backers.

This hasn’t exactly mellowed his instinct to give telling winks to people who hate Jews. Trump has retweeted support from
white supremacists and neo-Nazis in the past and he’s notably refrained from condemning the anti-Semitic mob of his supporters that has attacked Jewish reporters online.

Usually, he’s responded to criticism in the past by playing dumb, as if he’s unaware of what he’s doing. And that same pattern held true — somewhat — on Saturday morning. Moments after tweeting out the Star of David image, he put out a second image with the same language, but with a red circle instead of a star. The first tweet remained up for some time, however, before eventually being taken down.

Ari Fleischer, a Jewish Republican who served as press secretary to former President George W. Bush, criticized the Trump campaign for the tweet.

“I suspect this was a case of stupidity and not malice, but no matter what, his campaign keeps making foolish mistakes,” he said. “It would be nice to make it through a 3-day weekend without his campaign hurting itself.”

As for Clinton’s faith, she’s a Methodist. Trump has
attacked her for that in the past too. At a meeting of evangelical conservatives last month, he suggested there was little in the public record about her religion and that she might not actually be Christian: a blatantly false missive that was offensive in its own right but one that seems somewhat quaint in light of Saturday’s tweet.

Trump adviser Roger Stone sent an email to HuffPost several hours after this article was posted, with the subject line: Total Horseshit.

“A sheriff badge is the same shape as the Star of David,” Stone wrote. “You should be ashamed to publish crap like this - but then you don’t work for a real news organization.”

Editor’s note: Donald Trump regularly
incites political violence and is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims — 1.6 billion members of an entire religion — from entering the U.S.

Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things.

Sounds more like typical political mud slinging. Stars of various points are used in a similar fashion all the time. Unless there can be some verified intent to be anti-semetic then i'm not buying that that was the real intention and just view it as an image placed for affect. But this is what politics has come down to. Well, always has been, but in this butthurt culture we live in it has gotten worse.

I would agree that that design itself isnt necessarily anti-semitic. But, it does look pretty bad : / I can see why people would be upset by it. Its unfortunate that this was done, I dont think it will help his cause.

Shouldn't this be in the conspiracy sub forum. I mean I can see asking the question but to know the intentions behind something is dangerous. But then again the democrats excel at that kind of thing....guilty until proven innocent etc...of course not when it comes to their own behavior.

It may be a six pointed star, but there is nothing to suggest that it is anti-Semitic, especially since Clinton is not Jewish. This time, you are not making sense.

I don't like Trump in any way, shape or form. But to say this is anti-Semitic is nonsense. Sorry!

I suspect you would have to be very sensitive or a rabbid Anti Trump individual to equate a very unjewish looking star with Anti semitism.

Looks to me like an idiot millennial graphics designer and lack of quality control came together to form a perfect storm.

"I'll choose the best people..."

Crying foul on that promise at the moment.

If Trump used a swastika as his official campaign logo, many of his supporters would just say, "Trump just has respect for Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. Nothing wrong with that."

I don't think this was an accident or a sheriff badge. They removed the original tweet for a reason.

A swastika is not a particularly common shape on a second-rate photo editor. A six-pointed star is.

Just going by culture codes, his audience is not really Anti-Semitic enough for this to do anything but injure him politically.

Trump probably did not see the POTENTIAL connection.

Not that there ever was one.

Guaranteed he didn't think where people might go with it but someone with his campaign caught where it could be twisted thus it being removed and reposted with a different shape. Unfortunate for him the spinmeisters that work for Hillary were awake and paying attention that day.

actually it turns out the image -was- deliberately antisemitic...

the first version of the image posted to trump's twitter account was not the true original...the original was signed by the image's creator...at some point between the original making of the image and the posting of the image to trump's twitter account that signature was cropped out of the picture...

the original image was signed '@FISHBONEHEAD1'...this fishbonehead person was one of trump's followers on twitter...and had a history of tweeting anti semitic and racist images... for example an image of a jewish reporter in which he exaggerated the size of the reporter's nose in keeping with old jewish stereotypes...and an image of the new harriet tubman $20 bill in which tubman's face is replaced by an exaggerated face in the old 'minstrel show' style...

after he was identified as the source of the 'most corrupt candidate ever' image...@fishbonehead1 deleted his twitter account...evidently 'sanitizing' some of his most offensive images before deleting the account entirely...

now trump has a history of retweeting things from various open racists and anti semites who follow him on twitter...either not knowing what he is doing...or surreptitiously throwing a bone to the white supremacists among his support base to fire up their support...

this most recent incident is just a slight variation on the theme...
