Are “mansions” large, impressive houses, or are they something else, such as resting places?

I think mansion is the KJV translation of something like Dwelling Place. I have read that at that time rooms were added to
a Parental home when a Son was married. I think the idea is that the Church is the Bride of Christ and this was his way of explaining. Still I wouldn't refuse a mansion if offered one.

Within God's heavenly house, Christians will live in the presence of the Lord. This is quite different from the idea of rows of mansions on streets of gold, which is the image many people have of what Jesus was saying.

Jesus Christ prepares a place in heaven for His own, those who have come to Him in faith, and the Holy Spirit prepares the redeemed on earth for their place in heaven. Revelation 7:9 tells us that there will be a "great multitude in heaven that no one could number" all standing before the throne. Here, again, the imagery is of multitudes together, not living separately in different mansions.​

When Jesus said His Kingdom was not of this... world, He meant this present world of today. In the 'world to come', there won't be a world like today anymore.

Christ's future Kingdom as written will be on this earth. Ezekiel 47-48; Revelation 21-22.

Something you obviously have not been taught from God's Word, is that the heavenly dimension is going to be revealed right here, on this earth, as God's new earth is where He said He is going to dwell with His servants. Even Ezekiel 47 shows God's River of the waters of life and the tree of life manifested in the holy land on earth (where is En-gedi?).

the new Jerusalem described in the rest of this chapter is not the city you're going to live in. it is the Bride of Christ, the Lamb's wife. that's us, DP. the people of God. the church. that's not a literal building. it is spiritual. the angel said he was going to show him the Bride, and the angel carried him away in spirit and showed him a vision.

It's not a matter of being smarter. It's a simple matter of who has actually studied God's Holy Writ vs. those who only listen to men because they probably are too lazy to read God's Word for themselves.

A deeper study in God's Word reveals that the Heavenly will one day in the future be revealed right here on earth, and this is where The Godhead will dwell. Strange how many miss that God's Eden in Genesis 2 was once upon this earth, and it means His Abode, for wherever His Garden of Eden is, that is where The Father is.

We also were shown about God's River in Gen.2 emitting from His Eden and going out to feed four other rivers upon the earth, two of which are still located in the area of Iraq. The River of the waters of life mentioned in Revelation is real; it is not a spiritual metaphor. Ezekiel 47 shows it will flow out from God's sanctuary (i.e., His house) and will feed other waters upon the earth, healing them.

At the end of Ezekiel 48, the name of the holy city there on earth in that future time will be, Yehovah Shamah, which means, "God is there". So those chapters in Ezekiel are parallels to the events of Revelation 21 & 22, but sadly most brethren don't even know about those OT examples.

Instead what is taught about the 'mansions' and 'Father's house'? A lot of the Pre-trib rapture doctors wrongly teach the Church is going to fly away to Heaven prior to the tribulation, and live in the clouds forever more! Anyone who has actually 'studied' all of God's Word can easily tell those Pre-trib doctors haven't done so.

According to the Greek, "Mansions", in Jn 14: 2, Means, " a detached Mansions or Manor, The Greek word, "Mone", is where the English word, Manor comes from. So we have a detached mansion or manor, waiting for us in heaven.

The Greek word that the KJV translate as "mansions" means an "abiding place". In 1611 they translated the word as "mansions" to give the peasants something to look forward to and to suck money out of them to "pay" for their way there.

In saying that - I do believe God has places for us in heaven that are way beyond what we can think or imagine as Paul says in Corinthians.


Here is the exact same Greek word used. I highly doubt God is making "mansions" inside of us.

No, it means that Jesus went and died to make an abiding place for us in Him. We are one spirit in union with the Lord.


In John 14:2 it is a noun of the verb "meno" which means "to abide". Here is an example

putting together the knowledge in this thread so far, what i know is that the Lord has gone to prepare a place for us to dwell in, and that we will live together with Him eternally.

in the dwelling place of the Father there are many dwelling places - enough for all of us, i imagine! - and the Lord has gone there to prepare them especially for us. it seems to be a right conclusion that He is making ready a place specifically for each of us, just as He has specifically prepared us on earth to function each in our own way according to His purpose in the body.

these ain't gonna be rubber-stamp, pre-fab FEMA shelters. they will be specially prepared for each of us.
that's all i can glean about the details - no details. suppose He would like to give us a nice surprise, seeing as how it will be part of a wedding gift to His bride?

My idea of mansions in heaven are beyond of what mansions look like in this world. It's a very very very beautiful place. It's way much more than the paradise here on earth. It's made of gold and all kinds of heavenly stones like the one we have never seen before. It's a place where there is no pain, no sadness and no sorrow or sin. It's a holy and perfect place, a place we never think that exists. A place that God had prepared for His children for eternity life with Him.
