This is easy to prove, if we honestly take a look at the evidence.
Look at this verse in the KJV:
And he gave him the covenant of circumcision: and so [Abraham] begat Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day; and Isaac [begat] Jacob; and Jacob [begat] the twelve patriarchs. Acts 7:8 (KJV)
- - - Notice the words "eighth day". The Greek word for "day" in this verse is "hay-mer-ah". It is the correct Greek word to use for "day". In the original Greek, hay-mer-ah is correctly used 196 times for the word "day". - - -
Now, look at Acts 20:7 in the KJV. - - -
And upon the first [day] of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight. Acts 20:7 (KJV) - -
The word "day" is in brackets, or in the KJV, usually in italics. This means that the Greek word for day, hay-mer-ah, is not there at all. The word "day" was added by the translators. Interesting. Now look at the Greek word used for "week". It is "Sabbaton", which means Sabbath. So, the proper translation is this: "On the first Sabbath" or "On one Sabbath". Now, do you see what a little study brings to light?
Col 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
Col 2:15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
Col 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
Jesus took away the physical ordinances of Israel, including the physical sabbath,so we no longer have to observe that day of rest.
Isa 28:10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:
Isa 28:11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.
Isa 28:12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.
It is a spiritual rest,a spiritual sabbath,in the New Testament by the Holy Spirit, which everyday is observing the sabbath, for when you are led of the Spirit, you have the Spirit, and that spiritual rest everyday.
So it does not matter what day the saints come together, everyday if they want, not only Sunday, which some denominations came together on Wednesday, but nothing is mentioned about that by sabbath keepers,at least I do not know if they do.
Rev 1:10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet.
- Jesus rose on the first day (Sunday) Jesus was crucified and rose on the third day.
- The Holy Spirit was given on Pentecost Acts 2:1, which always falls on a Sunday
- Early Christians referred to Sunday as the Lord's day BECAUSE it was the day Jesus rose from the dead.
- The only example of the Lord's supper being practiced by Christians is in Acts 20:7, on Sunday. If this is not the Lord's supper, as Sabbatarians cannot grant, then there is no example in the Bible of Christians communing.
- "Sunday" is only used in languages such as German, Dutch, and English, whereas Latin-based languages, such as Spanish, Italian, and French use a derivative of the Latin word "Dominica," literally "Lord's Day." So the very notion of the first day of the week having something to do with the sun depends on the language you speak.
The Bible says that Paul preached to the Christians the first day of the week,Paul said to gather the collections on the first day of the week.
On the sabbath day Paul went in to the synagogue and the law and the prophets were preached from the Old Testament, then the Rabbi said, whoever has a word of exhortation say on,which Paul stood up and revealed to them the New Testament, and how the Old Testament testifies of the coming of Jesus, and when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles wanted Paul to preach again the next sabbath concerning Jesus, which the next sabbath day almost the whole city came to hear the word of God,which the Jews did not like it,and were against it(Acts 13:14-45).
Paul did not observe the physical sabbath day,but went in to the synagogues on that day to try to have an opportunity to preach Jesus, and only preached on the sabbath day because we preach everyday, and it was the opportune time to preach to those who believe the Old Testament, and not the New,for they were gathered together.
Act 7:8 And he gave him the covenant of circumcision: and so Abraham begat Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat the twelve patriarchs.
You forgot to add this part of the message.
Act 7:51 Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.
Act 7:52 Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers:
Act 7:53 Who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it.
Act 7:54 When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth.
Act 7:55 But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,
Act 7:56 And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.
Act 7:57 Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord,
Act 7:58 And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man's feet, whose name was Saul.
Act 7:59 And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.
Act 7:60 And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.
It was preached going against them concerning the Old Testament, that is a New Testament now,and to abandon the things of the Old Testament that do not apply in the New Testament, and they stoned Stephen.
