What I find weird is when people reading scripture, going to church, believing in
love and righteousness is at an all time low, you want to attack those who hold
to having standards, and want to stop preaching

"Repent for the kingdom of God is at hand"

Rather than being the great liberator of the church, this sounds more like the
great apostacy, where lawlessness becomes the rule and love is trampled.

Today we need to humble ourselves and cry to God to not bring judgement on
these sinful people who think themselves rich but are following fornication, adultery,
and pornography like it is the answer to life itself.

But then if this rules your heart, no wonder preaching repentance would be
hypocracy.
The issue is the motivation behind the acts. The acts are all fine and well, but what of the heart? Are you doing it to be accepted? To not be condemned? To stay saved? Or, are you doing these things out of love, and loyalty to the One you love?

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.
John 13:34-35

This is a difficult verse. It is almost impossible. If you live your lives on the outside alone, then the
emotional flow on the inside with never match up.

May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you.
1 Thess 3:12

What has been described by some here sounds like PTSD legalism trauma.

My background is probably the opposite. I come from a place where no clear rules or
emotional expression, meant it was hard to define anything or know where things lay.

So righteousness, dependability, faithfullness, love, honesty, openness are like life
itself.

Now probably to legalist PTSD sufferers I must come across like condemnation, but
to me you come across as rebellious against the very things life and love are built on.

In my world it is saying these principles matter, are a backbone, a security in an insecure
environment. For those with condemnation and OCD self persecution, just reading the
sermon on the mount brings condemnation. It is no wonder we do not get on, or even
properly understand the emotional life in the other, because it is so different.

I am truly sorry, because I did not know or quite understand the burden you carry.
And you probably do not quite grasp the impact on an immoral unbounded society where
taking drugs is just accepted behaviour, and sleeping around is the norm, no standards is
capitulation. This is the world of Corinth and the obvious sins they fell into.
Oh, thank you, brother!
He knows what each of us needs, doesn't He? :)

It is good that He gets us to understand each other!

Both reasons are why I am so very thankful I was not raised in the church at all. I wasn't really swayed one way or the other by anyone, I just started liking the whole "Idea" of Jesus, but really looked at Christianity as a whole like more of a philosophy that if lived by would result in a descent life. I tend to agree more with how you look at it, but I can understand the other side of this argument as well. The biggest problem I have with the whole "Hyper Grace" view is how unbelievers and false converts may misunderstand a lot of what is taught.

I actually agree with very much of what is said, especially by the people here (not so much with the "teachers" that they endorse), but I really feel that's because I already have been given eyes to see and ears to hear. An example is before my own regeneration I understood Romans 7:18-20 COMPLETELY different than I understand it today. My biggest problem with the "Hyper Grace" teachers is the huge room for misleading the seeker, and giving a false security to the false convert. That's why I see these teachings as dangerous personally.
Unstable people will always twist the good news of the gospel of Gods' grace toward us through Christ.
And some men will twist it to make money.
And some will twist it to say sin is okay and the more we sin the better.
But we just go right on telling of His grace toward us through Christ because this good news has the power to save men despite all that men do to twist it. :)

I do get bothered when people say the devil isn't omnipresent.. I know that.. but the Bible is clear that he himself roams the earth looking... You can dismiss that if you want, but I'm not...
HisHolly - a lot of these guys have no clue what the inside of strip club is like.

And yes satan uses all he can get, but these people have been driven by a demon
of not being spotless enough, and that devil they see in anyone who has the air of
church. And the emotion it raises shades their eyesight.

I knew one very disfunctional christian who would go from church to brothel, and this
kind of addiction I am not sure he has ever conquered. But then why should he, God
gave him these desires and he is meeting them, without harming anyone?!!!!

In a world of lonely people, lostness and liars, some comfort in these places seems to
them a compromise they are happy to live with. I might conclude that for some the
strip club is more honest than churches, which is certainly the idea satan would be
happy to promote.

"Prostitutes are going into the kingdom of God ahead of you" (Matt 21:31).

A truth echoed by C. S. Lewis, "A self-righteous prig who goes regularly to church may be far nearer to hell than a prostitute. But, of course, it is better to be neither".

The new testament is written about Jesus's ministry 3 years, Pauls letters, Peter, John etc.
This covers 20-30 years. It is all founded on the old testament and the definitions of religion held
there. Jesus is the fulfillment of Israel, the Law and the Prophets.

So all the concepts are embedded in 2000 years of history and experience. So everything in the new
testament in Greek is referring back to concepts in Hebrew. You cannot therefore define a religious
word in this context from a different language and talk as if it is in isolation. Jesus is part of the
whole Israel and Gods work in that testimony. That is my point.
Okay. But you seemed to have an issue with the Greek word the apostle used not being accurate (or not being sufficient)when compared to the Hebrew word. Or is it that you think it falls apart in the actual translation to english?
That's why I asked for the definition of "repent" and "repentance" in the Hebrew language. To try and see why you think the Greek does not do it justice.

AND..... when you realize that INSIDE.. you actually lack that kind of love for others AND actual real and solid loyalty and love for the One who saved you because of the weakness of the flesh., that's when I began wondering what is going on with my idea of the Christian life and walk?????????????? How have I been living my Christian life? Have I lived it through my weak flesh and now have finally seen the huge mistake?!!! It was all vanity without the power of Christ living through me.

If I'm going to live a life in Christ that is real and that matters., He has to show me HOW to love Him the way He has been showing me He loves me and how to do it from a true heart. For that IS my true desire but I was weak not only in the flesh but in the understanding of how it all worked.

He has given us a new heart and it's our job to work OUT what HE put IN. We have it., it was a gift., now we have to learn about who we are now IN Christ., and walk in the spirit. No more like we always did and are used to... from our flesh. Many of us have walked in the flesh most of our lives and it left a major impression on us although it is not the substance of who we are anymore the flesh still influences us just by us still having it. One preacher I heard years ago called it an "earth suit"

When you look at repentance in Hebrew, it is translated from all over the place, with
different implications and meaning.

God repents, feels bad about things, while wicked people repent and turn from evil
deeds. Clearly the context is fuller and deeper in the old testament.

The problem with language is illustrated with the word agape. I did not realise though
this is a greek word it has a specific christian meaning, related to sacrificial love.
In this case it is the new testament and church history that has defined the meaning
of a word.

So I have a hard time people throwing out the old testament, and church history and defining
a word based on their likes and dislikes. That is just the road to heresy. And repentance is
no minor word, it is linked to everything else.

Here is something we all can learn to repent from as the Holy Spirit reveals this truth to us. This is a copy of a post from FreeNChrist from an old thread. Thank you.

Quote:

You may have harnessed the energy of the flesh in an otherwise quite genuine desire to honor the Lord Jesus in your life. The flesh, which has its origin in Satan, will go along with you; to survive, it is quite prepared to engage in every form of Christian activity, even though this may seem to honor Christ.

The flesh will sing in the choir, teach Sunday school, preside at a deacons’ meeting, preach from the pulpit, organize an evangelistic crusade, go to Bible college, volunteer for the mission field, and a thousand other things, all of which may in themselves be otherwise legitimate, if only it can keep its neck out of the noose.

The flesh will threaten, shout, strut, domineer, sulk, plot, creep, beg, plead, or sob, whatever the situation may demand in the interests of its own survival. By any and all means it will seek to cause every Christian to live by his own strength instead of by the power and grace of the Lord Jesus, and to conclude that doing so is actually a good thing!

The characteristic of the spiritually immature is that they are unable to discern between good and evil (Hebrews 5:13-14), and the baby Christian, like the foolish Galatians, “having begun in the Spirit” still tries to be “made perfect by the flesh” (Galatians 3:3).

We must be particularly patient with those whose lack of understanding allows a genuine love for the Lord Jesus to be satisfied with, and sometimes to be quite enthusiastic about, Christian activities involving means and methods which are heavily contaminated by the flesh. These are more deserving of instruction than rebuke, for they are still in their spiritual babyhood.

.....The flesh will seek to produce the most plausible arguments in justification of its own illegitimate activities, even though these activities are only what the Bible calls “dead works” (Hebrews 6:1; 9:14) and not the “good works” which are truly the work of God.

“Good works” are those that have their origin in Jesus Christ, as Christ’s activity is released through your body because you present it to Him as a living sacrifice. You do this only by faith that expresses total dependence, as opposed to Adamic independence."

So Grace7, you are calling righteous people Satan and his horde?
No, I don't think that's what he's saying.
He's saying, satan won't try to tempt us who know God by getting us to think we can sin all we want to. He will be much more subtle and twisted than that. He knows we won't fall for blatant lies.

The problem with calling righteous people Satan and his horde you are making Gods people
your enemy and making yourself the accuser.

This is the place of judgement and a place you never want to go.
It is close of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. It is saying the work of grace God has
done in my life is actually the enemy.

Hatred, malice, anger lead you to place like this. But it has nothing to do with what the
victims of this accusation have done, it is what lies within. And in the end the same contradiction
to stand for righteousness will condemning it will cause an implosion. These positions are only
maintained by denial.

You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.
Psalm 45:7
I think if you read it again, he was not attempting to call righteous people to be satan. :)

The flesh, which has its origin in Satan

The flesh will sing in the choir, teach Sunday school, preside at a deacons’ meeting, preach from the pulpit, organize an evangelistic crusade, go to Bible college, volunteer for the mission field, and a thousand other things, all of which may in themselves be otherwise legitimate, if only it can keep its neck out of the noose.
This whole passage links service within a church to sin. Do you understand dear reader
how talking about real emotional, spiritual and relationship issues which lead to sin, space
would rather be given to condemning service within the body of believers.

It is odd when husbands are leaving their wives, young people would rather live with people
than commit, children are brought up without discipline or a loving example except to lust
after money and success, the biggest issue in the church as regards repentance is church
service.

This is the hypocracy of these condemners, blind teachers, who hold themselves up as the
example to everyone to listen to and follow. Every time I come with a verse or insight,
it has to be pushed this focus of condemnation in case christians are miss-led into legalism
and bondage. The truth is they regard the church as lost and those who believe as
deceivers. Nice encouraging people spreading love and harmony...

Okay, well what is/are the definitions in Hebrew. Maybe we can compare it to the definition of the Greek word used and come to clearer, more rounded understanding?

Here is the core phrase

Satan and his horde do not come to the believer in Christ and say "Sin all you want" because no one would for fall for such a lie.

Instead they come
as "ministers of righteousness".

Subject is satan and his horde.
The target is the believer in Christ. The message is not sin all you want.

Instead satan and his horde come as "ministers of rightousness"

Maybe you do not want to see this in Grace7, but there it is in black and white.
Read it slowly and take it in. This is what we call emotional bias, you do not want
to see what is there in plain sight.

[SUP]2 cor 11:

2 [/SUP]But what I do, I will also continue to do, that I may cut off the opportunity from those who desire an opportunity to be regarded just as we are in the things of which they boast. [SUP]13 [/SUP]For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. [SUP]14 [/SUP]And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. I agree as it sums up what the flesh will want to do with our own human self-effort. This is offensive to some mindsets.

There are two different kinds of zeals. The zeal "of" God which is fueled by the revelation of righteousness by faith in Crist alone. This produces the good works that originate from the Spirit of God in our spirit - in the inner man in Christ - created in righteousness and holiness.

It's a manifestation of His life bearing fruit in us the branches as we participate in these "good works". The cool thing is that He rewards us for the good works that He does through us.

Then there is the religious zeal "for" God which exhaust us as we struggle to do good works ourselves - in our flesh. This is the work of the flesh that Major Ian Thomas in the above quote was referring to.

I have a simple question for you who think repentance is simply a turning from sin. VVhen you pray to the Lord and tell Him, "Lord I'm sorry for what I've done. I won't do it again, ever. I am so so sorry." are you capable of fulfilling this promise? This oath? Or is it empty? How often have you repented of a particular sin but you continue to repeat it again and again? So then, tell me, what good does your form of repentance serve you when you're still stuck in the same sin over and over again? VVhere is the power in this repentance? VVhat good are the tears, sulking, and show when you are incapable in your flesh to fulfill this promise to God?

That is the way I see your repentance. People have been attacking hyper-grace and saying that its a license to sin (which is false) and also disagreeing with its presentation of repentance ("a change of mind"). Yet, my question is, what good is your repentance? Hasn't history shown the fruit of the traditional concept of repentance? It is void of confidence before the Lord, assurance in salvation, and the love of God (and the grace of God). In some ways it actually completely ignores what Jesus accomplished at the cross. Confession of sin for the sake of forgiveness? Has Christ died in vain? Did not His shed blood give you the remission of your sins?

There is so much more than meets the eye when it comes to repentance. It is tainted with religion and self righteousness. It tries to acknowledge Jesus, but treats His blood as if common. Incapable of doing that which God set out to do. Granting us forgiveness, taking our sins away and justifying us before God. Jesus being able as our High Priest to save us completely. All of this is tossed aside for a concept of repentance that deals with sin confession as if it maintains salvation. That is where people should truly repent. Change your mind about sin confession for forgiveness because it misses the mark that is Christ Jesus on that cross paying for your sins. You are forgiven, it is not something you seek. It is found in Christ.

This could go on for another couple paragraphs to define repentance, but I will keep it short. Repentance happens daily, it is through mind renewal. It is, after all, a change of mind. It is coming into agreement with God (yes, even about your sins) and then coming into the reality that Jesus has set you free from sin because you're a new creation. Also too, under grace sin's dominion is broken. So the accusation of licentiousness (license to sin) is unfounded because people are explicitly stating that we are set free from it and are dead to it. VVe don't ignore sin. VVe turn to God for His strength. VVe repent in that of growing in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ. In Him is victory found.
you know what the thing is with this joseph prince doctrine in the world? what really shows is its selfishness. this whole hyper grace things only real statement is "see who you are in Christ" rest in His finished work ect. never do they ever teach anything that is actually taught in Gods word. why is the stance of this doctrine and its disciples continually focused on being saved? whether or not I, me myself am saved is the view. living life thinking there is nothing for a Christian to be doing negates the whole purpose of it all.

reopentance is absolutely essential. its basic, its elementary. doctrines like this just drag up all these doubts of interpretation do I really need to repent? do I really need to be baptized? am I really supposed to care for the needy? am I supposed to lay myself down and love others? on and on with no truth is the coarse of these types of doctrines.the truth is plain and clear, doesn't need revolution or new age thinking to be understood. its the same as always. serve the will of God, or the will of His enemy. Christ and his finished work, is finished, all he has done is true and real, those who take Him as lord are free to live righteous upright lives in the presence of God. simple, unchanging, always. to serve God is life, to serve His enemy is death.

Christians are given directions for every area of life, how to live, act, think. those instructions are actually to be followed. to spend a life trying to figure out who you are in Christ comes from unbelief of what is plain and clear. Christians are the presence of Christ in the world. their Love, kindness, righteousness, their good deeds ( which was the purpose of His death) to make new a people who are prepared to do the many good works prepared for them to actually go and do. that's the whole purpose to those who spend their lives claiming there is nothing to do, Jesus died and rose TO PREPARE US. equip us to do every good work. those works that were appointed to the person to do.the wholw purpose of salvation is to make a people who do what is right and good.

instead the debate rages on. do I need to repent? do I need baptism? this doctrine has no focus on others at all. it does nothing but go in circles waiting for God to make a person act...God is waiting for us to act in what He already has provided. and yeah, the entire purpose is good works. if a person is "saved" prolly time to live that way.repentance, turning from sin is absolutely essential. first words of Jesus ministry. comes down really to does a person want forgiveness so they can enjoy their sinful lives, or does a person want what Has been offered, forgiveness and freedom from the grasp of sin. many I feel want to have forgiveness with no responsibility. forgiveness while they live as they wish....

truthfully, Jesus bought you, me and anyone else who claims His name and death. He owns us, we belong to Him who gave all these detailed instructions. same one we call LORD. same who says " why do you call me lord and do not do what I say? I will show you what He is like who hears me and does what I say, he is a wise builder whos house is upon a foundation, He will stand. and He who hears me and doesn't do what I say is a foolish builder, his house has NO foundation, and it will fall and its destruction will be complete."

simple said by the only one who matters. hear and do = wisdom, foundation, life. hear and do not do = follishness, no foundation, destruction. cant really just ignore and change Jesus words, in good conscience. after all His blood paid the price. he repeats this same thing. the important part of all this. doing what the word of God says to do. repentance is first
