Biblical proof for your theory?
[1] Every one who believes that Jesus is the Christ is a child of God, and every one who loves the parent loves the child.
[2] By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments.
[3] For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. 1 John 5:1-3 RSV

The elect of God are those whom He has chosen from before the foundation of the world (Eph 1.3 on; Rev 17 8; 2 Thessalonians 2.13; 2 Timothy 1.9).

I asked for proof that anyone was elected by doing it.

LOL if we obey ALL the commandments we are in Heaven,.

Anyone who sincerely claims to love God with heart, soul, mind and strength, all the time, is in Heavem
Don't forget the other commandment: Love your neighbor as yourself.

Dear Calvinist,

Matthew 25:41,Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

Who was hell created for? Was God willing that any should perish and end up in hell? Were there some elected from the beginning not go to heaven but end up in hell?

I would hope we righties would be afforded the same privilege.
Well, I thought we were just conjecturing about any subject we felt like talking about after your last few replies, so I joined in. It's about as equally related to election as your ditties.

I post on a lot of threads, and after one thread accumulates a lot of posts, you sort of lose track of what is going on. I don't want to go back and read a hundred posts just go find out what you are talking about. Even so, I am careful what I say, so when you disagree with one of my posts, I like to respond.

The Lord shows us the answers to all our problems. If we repent of our sin, it is comparatively easy to hear what he is saying. And so I constantly encourage people to obey the Lord's commandments.

As for the elect, the Lord doesn't play favorites. I don't need to go searching for Scripture to back that statement up.

Faith pleases GOD.Obedience to the faith first, then GOD creates us In CHRIST unto good works that was before ordained that we should walk In them.

You didn't have to read any of the post to find the problem. The title should have done it for you. And God doesn't play favorites? You're the one who said he chooses those who follow the commandments.

I like you. (I suspect that surprises you.) But I have a problem with what you teach as gospel. It's not. It's like seeing a teacher teach the first letter in the alphabet is 5 and 1 + 1 = 11. Even if the person is a very nice person, someone has to speak up before kids believe it.

It isn't that the Lord favors those who obey the commandments. It's that when we obey the commandments, we stay out of trouble. The Lord gave us the commandments for our own benefit. We can’t understand the Gospel until we DO obey the commandments.

[1] Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
[2] but his delight is in the law of the LORD,
and on his law he meditates day and night. Psalms 1:1-2 RSV

Which has to do with election... how?

Ephesians 2:8-9
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Hebrews 12:2
Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

We elect ourselves by obeying the commandments.

The Lord saves us, but we need to repent.

.....and.....

How does someone become a part of that group?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Peace.

God does all the work of drawing someone to himself. He seals them by giving them the Holy Spirit, which allows them to believe on him unto their salvation, trusting in him. It is all his work, not theirs. They are essentially a new person. He knows who they will be since he has elected them.

If anyone wants to be saved, there is certainly nothing wrong with calling out to God and telling him that, asking him for salvation and asking to go his way. Who knows, perhaps the desire to be saved is something that God himself put there and God is in process of saving that person. When God is pouring out his Spirit, we read: "And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved."
