I like the way you stated that.

Yes, we are all sinners. I often think about David and His adultery and murder. There was no sacrifice at the temple he could make to God for a wilful sinning. His only recourse was to repent, confess his sins, and accept God's forgiveness. Can anyone say "that's grace" before Jesus came?
The grace of God was that before David repented, God sent the prophet to convict him of his sin through the parable.

Grace is that God didn't have to do it, David didn't deserve it but God forgave and reached out to him anyway.

the Torah is our Creator's Heart so that His people wouldn't have to live in total grief, and self-hatred -
but was never meant to save their souls-
Christ's Sacrifice is God's gift to us so that we may live with Him for eternity...

'The Law is Holy, Just, and Good.'

Law and Grace is not one "team". They are opposed at every point. They do not and cannot co-exist...either as the grounds for our acceptance by God or as the rule of life.
Without the Torah as a godly standard, there is no uniform understanding of sin.

Understanding what sin is never stopped anyone from sinning.

True, but how does one repent if they have no standard?

For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them
on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus.
(Romans 2:14-16)

and this speaks of Gentiles who have not only never been placed under Torah, but who have never received the promise and the regeneration into new creations in Christ Jesus!

how much more those whom God has chosen for Himself to believe, and who He has given new hearts and whose minds He constantly renews through His spirit??

does anyone think God is not able to do this?
that if you no longer live, but Christ lives in you -- that Christ Himself needs to refer to an instruction manual before He knows what righteousness is ???

praise God who works salvation!!

If God has written the Ten Commandments on your heart and mind, you should be able to list all ten with no trouble. Can you? What’s the seventh commandment?

That was asked on page 1. From memory I write

1 Thou shalt have no other Gods before the LORD thy God

2 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image of anything in the heavens or in the earth or under the sea to bow down to them and to worship

3 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain for he will not hold guiltless those who take his name in vain visiting iniquity unto the third or fourth generation of those who hate God and forgiving thousands of those who love him

4 Remember the Sabbath to keep it holy for in six days God created the heavens and the earth and on the seventh day he rested likewise ye should do all your work in six days and on the seventh day ye shall do no work therin, neither your servants or oxen

5 Honour your mother and father

6 Thou shalt not kill

7 Thou shalt not steal

8 Thou shalt not commit adultery

9 Thou shalt not bear false witness against your neighbor

10 Thou shalt not covet anything belonging to your neighbor

Another person wrote that understanding what sin is never stopped anyone from sinning. I choose not to break the Ten Commandments all the time by just repeating them in my head when shown temptations.

Just the other day I was about to wipe my butt in a public restroom, and I stopped to think if it could be considered stealing to use the toilet paper because I had not asked permission before rushing into the bathroom. The Ten Commandments are written on my mind forever.

I argue from New Covenant perspective. The real Christian is not under the Law in any capacity. The Law did it's job and now we are in Christ. To go back to the Law for living is committing spiritual adultery on our Lord Jesus. Romans 7:1-6. We have died to the Law SO THAT we can be joined to Another - Christ Himself.

Paul who knew the Law better then anyone had this to say about the purpose of the law.

The purpose of the law was :

1) To reveal our sinful state. Rom 3:20

2) To inflame sin Rom 7:8

3) To minister death in us Rom 7:10-11

4) To lead us to Christ Gal 3:24

The law is good, holy and spiritual but we are in the flesh. Jesus fulfilled all the law! When we read the law we should be seeing Jesus in it. Jesus did not save us so that we could go back to the law.

But the purpose of the law was not for righteousness or salvation at all, it was to manifest sin in our lives, so that the purpose of grace which is in Jesus is to manifest salvation. Grace does not set aside the law, but completely satisfied it.

If people want to be "law-keepers" then that is your choice but it is not the New Covenant no matter how much you try to make it. There are modern day Judaizers trying to get Christians to go back to keeping the Law just like they tried when Paul preached the gospel.

It is anti-Christ in it's belief system and denies the Lord Jesus Christ and what He did in His work on the cross and resurrection.

Remember Paul said in the last days people would be "anti-Christ" NOT "anti-God".

This describes the modern day Judaizers trying to pervert the gospel of the grace of Christ. Paul had some very harsh words to say about these Judaizers. Repent and trust in Christ's work - He is more then enough! You can trust His life in us to lead us now because we eat from the tree of Life now - which is Christ Himself.

You said "I argue from New Covenant perspective"

I wonder, Do you believe that someone can understand the Old covenant from only reading the new testament?

Do you believe that someone can understand the new covenant from only reading the new testament?

I'm curious.

I believe people who have the Holy Spirit could understand God's message from just reading the New testament. Its simple that a small child can understand it.

People just like make the gospel more complicated.

The old testament testifies of God's faithfulness and His redemption plans, but without the Holy Spirit and understanding of the New testament, it is incomplete and covered with a veil that makes it so people can't see the promises of Christ woven throughout the old testament.

Are you serious or mocking folks?

Can't tell over the internet, but if you are serious.

I hope you concluded that using toilet paper to wipe yourself is NOT stealing since the people who let you use the restroom placed it there for you to use. Also, I pray you used the water, soap and hand drying device to wash your hands afterwards.

God's law is more than the Torah or the ten commandments as Jesus showed people pretend they can follow the letter of the law but their hearts were far from God.

Your post illustrates the point of how someone can spend so much time meditating on the law that it becomes a distraction. It would be better to meditate of other things like prayer and having a closer relationship with God.

I should add that I do not support "hyper grace". The hyper-grace folks do seem to be on fire for Jesus, but personally I am okay with plain ordinary wonderful godly grace. Mine doesn't have to be hyper as long as it's from God.

I also believe that grace gives us a saving faith in Jesus redeeming work on the cross unto salvation which justifies us...

However sanctification is a lifelong process and faith is but the first step.

We are to add to our faith virtue, not our own but Christ for, there is a verse that says virtue went out of Jesus and healed the woman afflicted with a bleeding issue for many years.

So we begin with faith, then are given the Holy spirit which is Christ's virtue or righteousness. Next He teaches us knowledge of what he expects of us and how to live a godly life. Then we move on to godliness, self control, perseverance, brotherly kindness and finally love.

Godliness and self control is something we need to strive for, however because we live in a fallen world we might stumble and fall back into sin. That is why we must learn perseverance and not stop just because the road is hard or we stumbled and fell into a pit.

We can recognise people who have walked with God the longest because of their brotherly kindness and love. It reflects God's peace and joy...I always think when meeting someone like that...I want to reflect God's manner in such a way that people will be able to see the joy, love and peace God has given me, instead of the worries, doubts and fears the world tries to burden me down with. I want to be like them and face the trials of this life and not despair but raise my eyes to Jesus and praise Him for increasing their patience.

So back to the title...the ten commandments were part of the old Covenant and shadows of reality in Jesus Christ.

The tabernacle in reality is the human flesh Jesus put on as a baby born of Mary. He did not have tablets of stone but the law written in His heart.

We have been promised the same. God will write His laws in our hearts.

There are two universal laws: love God with your whole heart, mind, body and life and love your neighbor as yourself.

Then there are other laws that are specific to individuals.

For example dietary laws....some people are allowed to eat meat and others with a weaker faith are commanded not to eat meat.

The same with the Sabbath and other Holy days....some people can worship God every day, others with a weaker faith need that weekly structure of routine and ritual to renew them and remind them of God's will in their life and His promise of rest.

Concerning such things people must obey God, not men.

Eat what God tells you can eat, worship as God commands you. However dont judge another man's servant, don't condemn others for not doing what YOU think they should but recognize that they might be doing exactly what God told them they should.

I think God gave both because both were needed. History would testify that only one leads to errors.

Plenty of saints have lived and died on this earth without ever having the book at all! Plenty with neither the books of Moses nor the writings of the apostles!

If you have the Holy Spirit, by the will and mercy of God you can understand His message without any written commandments and without any of the exhortation of the epistles.
Paul didn't have the new testament -- and he had not been a disciple -- so how did he write so much of it?!
By the Spirit.

As i put from Romans 2 -- gentiles, not having the law can comprehend all the righteousness of the Law, and do all the works of the Law. As the scripture says, this shows that the Law is written on their hearts.
Certainly it is either facetious or shows great misunderstanding to think that having the Law of God written on one's heart means that one can recite 613 mitzvot they have never read.

Having the Law written on your heart does not mean you have memorized the Torah. It means God has created you with a nature that comprehends His righteousness.

(Romans 2:14-16)

Look, if gentiles who do not have the law can have the work of the law in their hearts, how can the righteousness of the law be to follow rituals and signs?

The righteousness of the law is not to ceremonially observe feasts and days and dietary restrictions and regulations about your clothes & your beard.

The righteousness of the Law is to love mercy and to walk humbly before God.
To love the Lord and fear Him!

Christ died so that through being reborn in Him by faith - faith granted to us by the Father - we may become new creations who worship & serve Him by spirit, not by written command. New creations after the Second Adam who have the righteousness the Law taught to the people of the Old Covenant in their hearts, and who do these things by nature instead of under slavery to written code and threat of condemnation and death. From our hearts and from love, because it is now who we are to do righteousness, to humble ourselves before God, and to love and work mercy.

The Jew never had this -- we have been given an extremely rich and great gift from God, given righteousness that is from our very hearts! He has caused us to have natures that are contrary to sin -- but His chosen people the Hebrews did not have this benefit, and were given a Law contrary to their natures, to teach them that salvation is by God's mercy, not their works, and to lead them toward Christ: the culmination of the Law!

We have Christ!
Christ ! ! !

Don't y'all get what this means?? Praise God for His awesome gift and superabounding grace!!

true! what is required is the spirit

ST. JOHN 16:12 I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.
ST. JOHN 16:13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.

if this doesn't yet work for you, then yes, learn more rules

Sure, if a person is fully led by the Ruach HaKodesh, no stone tablets would be needed.

how many North American "believers" are operating daily being FULLY led by the Spirit in all things.
my guess - 0.
