I ask because before i simply thought: gotta drink 8-10 glasses water a day period. Used to take abt 2 glasses per meal, then abt a glass per snack time, or something like that. More when active or hotter. (But u can talk abt other kinds of drinking here, its ok.)

Recently a health advisor said we people sometimes get too acidic stomachs when we drink with meals. That is, it is alright to sip in between food, esp when we find we almost choke at food chewed and swallowed too fast sometimes, but he suggested i take a glass abt 30 min. or an hour before the meal, and another 30 min. after the meal. What do you think?

and saw this: Think You Know How To Drink Water?

I've been told 1/2 your body weight in ounces a day.

Yes. It's pretty well established drinking much with meals isn't good. I've heard some people take it too far and refuse to even out drinks of any kind out for meals, even with guests. I think that's extreme. But minimizing drinking during meals is better.

That's correct. And I always have one, or sometimes two glasses with each meal. I usually try to drink a gallon of water a day....... sometimes I fall short.

I drink far in excess of the 64 fluid ounces of water recommended daily. I've got a very large plastic tumbler that I keep at the ready loaded with ice and filled with water. I drink until it's gone, and by the time it is, the ice has melted. I drink a minimum of three of these a day. I'm sure I am doing it "wrong" according to currently accepted advice, but it works fine for me and keeps me hydrated throughout the day.

I've been drinking two or three bottles of these every day as well as a couple big glasses of regular spring water. Ozarka offers different flavors, too. I like the lemon one the best. It says it has 100% natural ingredients, and no calories, sweeteners, colors, sodium or caffeine.

I usually don't drink near enough. I have to MAKE myself stop when going past the fountains at work, and take 5 or 6 swallows... don't know how much that is.

At home on weekends, I usually drink more regularly, but I've never kept a record of how much.

Isn't there a danger of drinking too MUCH water? Doesn't it tend to flush out minerals, electrolytes, etc if you overdo it?

Nope. You don't pee that often. Your body absorbs plenty in between bathroom visits, even if you are going every three hours.... and only us old men hit the bathroom 5 times a day.

You could drink a fatal amount of water, yes, but it rarely happens. It is called water toxicity; here is a story from nine years ago about a woman who died after drinking two gallons of water in over three hours trying to win a radio contest.

wow, I know some Marines and they attest that during boot camp they are required to drink water until they start to vomit because the demands of training can cause life threatening dehydration. They do this right before the training so maybe that's the difference, they begin to burn liquids before too much tissue absorption.

I know myself too well. If I didn't drink with the meal, I wouldn't get it in at all. It is always a struggle to make myself drink water. I also don't seem to need it as much as some.

A tip,
Put fruit in a water bottle
If you want the fruit you'll have to drink the water
(That's how I got myself to drink more water haha)
