Dogs pant, some do it more than other's. Some pant when they walk no matter the temp. Some dogs pant in the car with the A/C on. Some pant when they're just sitting around doing nothing. Some pant when they see another dog and want to sniff that dog but you can't run across the street like a lunatic to greet the other dog because that other dog might not like other dogs.
My my point is, my dog pants when we walk, she pants when she's nervous or excited or anxious or bored or tired. She's been to the vet, just the other day actually. She's in good health. People, strangers tend to jump to a conclusion when they see a dog that pants a lot. I'm getting tired of it. Just today I got a lecture while I was walking her around the block. THE BLOCK. It's about 80 degrees here and not very humid today. We didn't walk ten miles. She likes to sniff a lot. So I get you're dog is panting you should have water. The guy gave her some water, okie dokie thank you. And I do normally bring a collapsible bowl and water. I figured since we were taking a leisurely stroll around THE BLOCK we'd be okay. I thanked him for the water and explained the situation. I know there are times animals aren't being treated well and someone needs to step in. But dogs pant, she's not locked in a hot car, she's not rabidly drooling, she's keeping herself cool. I actually had another person tell me I should shave her. The groomer said no, her coat is sort of like insulation and actually helps keep her cool. Plus she's pink under there, she'd get sunburn. I'm so tired of people always jumping to a conclusion before they even understand what's going on. I see it on line, the child who was drowned by the Aligator at Disney recently, people on line tore those parents apart. Let's all jump on our soap box because we're perfect parents or pet owners or what ever. Give me a break. It's funny when I'm walking with my kid's no one ever says, they look hot, would they like some water? But wanna be dog whisper's give me their two cents when they see my dog.
Sorry for the long post. I'm just irritated.
