I love cartoon movies. I'm as exited as my kids when a new one that looks funny comes out.

I am a huge Peanuts fan, I was worried when The Peanuts movie came out. I thought they'd make it all hip and modern. I was plesantly surprised when I saw it. They kept true to the Peanuts.

Are any of the newer animated movies any good? Things like Despicable Me, Minions, Turbo?, Zootopia, and some of the others? I'm way out of touch, so I just don't know.

I'm more of a documentary watcher than anything else, so I'm really, really, really ignorant about movies and such.

Despicable me was good. Minions was okay, but after a while I got tired of hearing them talk. Zootopia was funny. Turbo was sort of boring. The peanuts movie was good. Finding Dory was clever I enjoyed it. Since I've seen so many ill make a list.

All 3 Shrek's, hysterical.

Frozen, good, but if you don't like musicals you won't like it.

Tangled, excellent.

Inside Out, loved it, really explains human emotions well.

Ponyo, good, kind of weird, but good, beautiful animation.

Kung fu Panda 3, funny. I didn't see 1 or 2.

The Lego Movie, a must see, hysterical.

Mulan, pretty good.

I know I've seen a bunch more, just can't think of them.

Oh forgot, Penguins of Madagascar, very funny.

Madagascar, very funny.

I remember watching Finding Nemo at 2 in the morning with my then 3 year old son who had a stuffy nose and couldn't sleep. Nemo and annoying Caillou got us through a lot of long nights.

i was really disappointed with Zootopia; the others you mentioned i haven't actually seen.
i thought from the outset that i wouldn't like Zootopia - and it was every bit as shallow and predictable as i thought it would be. personally i would not have even rented it, but my son wanted to see it, so we went to the theater together.

i'm usually pretty critical with movies. haven't liked many of the newer animated films lately at all. Big Hero 6 & the Lego Movie were probably the latest ones i liked . . oh and the Peanuts Movie.
haven't seen Finding Dory yet, but i want to.
most of the newer movies, i just don't appreciate the humor at all, and the plots are so thin.. so i don't enjoy the Minions or the Madagascar or Ice Age movies even a little bit. but i get the feeling that the writing for Dory is better.

i love how so many of you are fans of Coraline!

Coraline was very good, but I think I prefer the book. As for Zootopia, I really enjoyed it. There was a depth and humanity there that you don't find in a lot of children's movies. Also, the worldbuilding was rather impressive and I enjoyed the humour.

Ponyo, good, kind of weird, but good, beautiful animation.

pretty sure i remember crying the first time i saw Ponyo!

the Studio Ghibli movies are sooo different from what Pixar & Dreamworks & Disney produce. they're often a little 'weird' - but i love that; it's interesting, and thought-provoking. there's a spiritual aspect to them, that while it's tinged with shinto and animism, the most you normally get from western cartoons is humanism, which makes their plots all so predictable, and sometimes offensive to me in their vanity. they aren't generally meant to be funny, but concentrate on storytelling & narrative rather than punch lines and incorporation of pop culture references. just generally more 'intelligent' in some way, in my opinion.

and the animation -- it's gorgeous. almost every animated movie these days, and for a couple decades, has been 100% computer generated, but every cel in Studio Ghibli's movies is still hand-drawn. i wish Disney still did this. there's a certain sense of artistry that's largely missing from modern animation :(

I forgot about Big Hero 6, that was very good and Coralline is a good one too. Secret life of pets was another good one.

I love Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli movies. My favourites are probably Whisper of the Heart, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind and Spirited Away.

I like Regular show (see avatar), while they did put out a movie, I like the TV show better b/c it uses 80's and 90's references as jokes through the dialog....

As far as disney ones, they don't make them like they used to anymore.....modern ones really stink and are not funny not to mention they always advocate gay characters/lifestyles now.....I like older ones like Lion King, Aladdin, Jungle book, toy story, the modern ones are all lame now.....they just throw some crap together and call it a movie with no real story to make you think.....

The only one I've ever seen is Ponyo and you're right about animation. The scenery in Ponyo made me want to live there.

A few others that I've really liked are Up, Meet The Robinsons, Home, Hotel Transylvania, Alpha and Omega, Hoodwinked!, and The Black Cauldron, which came out in the 80s and is really weird lol.

I haven't seen Zootopia. I'll have to check that out.

Zootopia was 4,5/10 at best but I really enjoyed Despicable Me 1 & 2. Really funny...
