What kind of pancakes are we talking about?
The very thin, large ones knows as crepe or the thick small ones known as crumpets ?

Pancakes are round because they are like a ball and cos they like being eaten.

If a pancake was square and fat or like a cube it would be hard to digest.

They end up Amoeba shaped when I cook'em.

I haven't considered a crumpet being a kind of Pancake.. It maybe a distant relative. The same goes for English Muffins I suppose. I expect they all emerged from some primeval batter together with Yorkshire Puddings and Toad in the hole.
