Christ says, those who love one another are His disciples.
But He says those who call on His name are saved.
I personally believe there is a difference in the two.

Some are saved and some are disciples.

Jesus had the 3, 12, 70, and multitudes.

Scripture talks about "rewards" that are given. I believe this idea is what Paul was driving at when he said he didn't want to be "disqualified". For Paul life was about preaching Christ and he didn't want to be disqualified from carrying that great honor.

What I firmly believe is that eternal life is a Person. Thus when we die to the old man and are baptised (or reborn) in Christ we are joined to eternal life. But I believe He who started the work will complete it.

But there are some who Jesus never knew. They called Him Lord, but they pointed to their works to show their admittance.

C.

I disagree for the following reason.

1. The works salvationist faith is in himself, and in his works, NOT in Christ. They reject salvation by faith in Christ, thus reject Christ.

2. While a person who is truly saved may have legalistic tendencies (ie, How can I be saved if I do these things, or if I do not change God will not love me anymore etc etc) That is different than someone who is depending on human works to gain salvation.

Paul is adament that those who try to work to earn salvation have brough a different gospel, which is not a gospel itself and has no power to save.

I can not judge Stephen or anyone else. But I know our gospels do not match, and thus both of us in our current state will not enter heaven.

actually c. if a person looks at the scriptures you are referring to, its those who are doing the things Jesus taught. feeding the hungry, giving water to the thirsty, visiting those in prison, clothing the needy. this whole doctrine about jesus will do those things for us came from thin air because no one wants to lay down thier self and care for one another. just calling on His name, are the ones calling Him Lord, its the ones caring for others who are saved. prophecying, doing miracles, driving out demons arent what Jesus teaches us to do, its to Love one another, His way that is what those scriptures are clearly saying. to love each other, not just be friendly to our friends. but to care for the poor, to Love in action and in truth. like John explains. if a person gets away from thinking " our personal opinions " matter rather than what is taught in the gospel we have truth.

matthew 25:31-46 "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. ALL THE NATIONS will be gathered before him, and he will SEPERATE ALL THE PEOPLE one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.“Then the King will say to THOSE ON HIS RIGHT, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. FOR I was hungry and YOU GAVE me something to eat, I was thirsty and you GAVE ME something to drink, I was a stranger and YOU INVITED ME in, I needed clothes and YOU CLOTHED ME, I was sick and YOU LOOKED AFTER ME, I was in prison and YOU CAME TO VISIT ME.’“Then THE RIGHTEOUS will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’“The KING will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, YOU DID for me.’“Then HE WILL SAY to those on his left, ‘DEPART FROM ME, you who are CURSED, INTO THE ETERNAL FIRE prepared for the devil and his angels. FOR I was hungry and YOU GAVE ME NOTHING to eat, I was thirsty and YOU GAVE ME NOTHING to drink, I was a stranger and YOU DID NOT invite me in, I needed clothes and YOU DID NOTclothe me, I was sick and in prison and YOU DID NOT look after me.’“They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’“He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, WHATEVER YOU DID NOT DO FOR ONE OF THE LEAST OF THESE, YOU DID NOT DO FOR ME.’ “Then THEY will go away to ETERNAL PUNISHMENT, but the righteous to ETERNAL LIFE.”

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Clearly there is much here that is not to be seen as Jesus worked so He expects nothing from us. clearly this pertains to the eternal judgement. clearly it pertains to ALL NATIONS , clearly theres not a King saying, because you said you believed and called me Lord, you are blessed now come have your inheritance, clearly the thing needed is this " Obey my commands, my command is this, that you Love one another AS I have Loved you : Greater Love has no one than this, that He lay down His life for His friends. clearly again, those who do not Love others in action and truth as Jesus teaches us to do. to lay down selfishness of all kinds, and help, give, spend time on other people who have needs. this is Jesus own answer to Judgement day, its not spoken to only the jews, its all nations included. its about doing what He taught, what He taught was true Godly Love for the least, help for the oppressed and overlooked. He is raising unselfish children, " deny yourself, pick up your cross and follw my example of Love is the resounding message of the gospel. God is very Good, but He also has given His Sons Life, and fully expects us to honor it with our own. Jesus presented Himself and the gospel, just as He was thats what the gospel needs is people who share Him as is, without ":making him more attractive "because Gods design is perfect already.

it would be different if there were scriptures saying just count on Jesus to do what you are commanded to do, but, it actually doesnt say that. it says He died for us, now were supposed to go use ourselves to honor Him in his name, to give true glory to God. in the world

Anyone pleasing God Almighty will be pleasant to all who believe. For some it may not appear so in this age, but come the Kingdom it will be eternally self-evident.

I will answer you.

If you can lose your salvation by not doing works. It would stand to reason you believe that you need works to stay saved. Thus you are espousing a "works based salvation".
Here's what I am confident about:
Phil 1:6 And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
If you don't believe you need works to stay saved then glory to God.
If you believe faith produces works then glory to God.
Cee - What you have put as a proposition is not the traditional position.
The idea someone can be saved, enter the Kingdom of heaven and do some good things,
and then stop doing some good things so loose ones salvation.

This is obviously not what anyone is talking about because it is preposterous and a lie.

From the beginning people entering the Kingdom are entering into life.
Works are the fruit of this life. Without these works life does not exist, but it is the
product of such life.

Now like any living thing, it can die. Jesus talks about the roots not being able to
penetrate the soul, or it is too dry, or the weeds gather in and smother the life.

Now if this relationship was not a living thing, then it would be a dead thing, something
like a machine and mechanical.

But simply because people want certainty over something that is about interaction,
they create the language of certainty and the material world like a bridge, or a mystical
presence, or a physical change that cannot be reversed.

But in all honesty tell me of any relationship we have where this is true.

Now this fear arises about loss of certainty because people find it hard to say, yes
the Lord has moved in me. Now this is the real problem.

But let us get real about relationships. How do many of us know who truly loves
and cares for us and who does not? Often when times get hard, people who
stand by you are often very different than those you first would expect, because
so much was show and so little was real care.

So Jesus for one says, "learn from me"
"Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."
Matt 11:28

Words come cheap in this world, but Jesus's words are eternal.

This is why anyone who dismisses lightly a word of Jesus does not know Him.

yet once again, Peter needs to take his own medicine, or listen to what he says, and contemplate it himself.

He has no problem attacking others Slandering them, or accusing them falsly. But if someone even appears to do this to him (even if they are not) then Peter comes out swinging instead of trying to understand what is really being said.
All the above again is simply a slander and a lie.
I listen very closely to everything, but just lying about what I say and intend, is not
respect or even a discussion.

When will these people stop and show simple respect. It is part of being a follower of
Christ. But this fruit literally defines their lostness.

I try very hard to both understand the real ethics and doctrine of any group, and see
its strengths and weaknesses. Now this is hard for them, because if I conclude a fatal floor
in their position, it means in an unfortunate way, I am right and they are wrong. But this
is not my battle, it is what it means to be commited to truth.

i trust in God alone and love my sin
Lying like the above statement is just ludicrous and show the shallowness of the slander
and distortions these people hold inside themselves.

People do not love sin, they are slaves to it. The HG claim is you cannot be free from it,
it is merely their as a reminder of your need for Christ.

But to face this reality is too hard, because it admits failure, which emotionally is hard and
a place you do not want to go. So the focus is always on Jesus's victory and imputed
righteousness. But that does not deal with the belief they are continually sinning and missing
what they should be.

And so not surprisingly the doctrine comes, do not be sin aware but God aware.
Paul would rather say this

Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.
Rom 12:3

Now if Paul thought people were continually being caught in sin and condemnation
he would not have written the above comments. When the corithians where in sin
he wrote

Therefore let us keep the Festival, not with the old bread leavened with malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
1 Cor 5:8

Now in all sincerity lying has just got to stop if you claim to follow Jesus.
What is being said is simple and open and honest. So I would hope if you know Jesus
at all you will be able to do this. Or has even this passed you by?

Actually we are told to prophesy, do miracles, and drive demons out.

MARK 16:15-20 NKJ
15 And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 "He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.
17 "And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;
18 "they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."
19 So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God.
20 And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.

BUT, we do not rejoice in this... but that our names are written in heaven.

Luke 10:20 Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

When we are given authority to bring the Kingdom of God, it IS love to release it.

Acts 10:38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, because God was with Him.

Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Luke 24:48You are witnesses of these things. 49And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”

Notice Jesus says the following:
1. Those who believe in Me will do what I do and more.
2. Teach what I have taught you.
3. Wait until Holy Spirit (power) has come upon you.
4. Once power has come upon you be My witnesses.

It's not walk in power or love. It's love and also walk in power.

1 Co 14:1 Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy.

Great question!

Yes it is. :)

Amen...it is because we have a living relationship with our Lord that we stand against anything that will try to nullify the work that Christ has already done - like a works-based salvationists doctrine or living from humanistic philosophy. It denies Christ's work and Person. It is a perversion of the true gospel of the grace of Christ.

We believe that in knowing Christ - we will have the fruit of His life which will manifest in our behavior while on this earth. The opposite of this belief is believing that "if I do good things" then I will know Christ. That is religion and it is totally backwards from the gospel.

A dilemma of morality

It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that even pagans do not tolerate: A man is sleeping with his father’s wife.
1 cor 5:1

I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people
1 cor 5:9

“I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything.
1 cor 6:12

When you come to things from a sense of purity, love and righteousness, the above
statement is true. Outside obvious harm to others and oneself, there are no restrictions.

But some among us feel God will condemn us if we fear, if we do not trust, if we limit
Gods moving. But fear, anger, worry(concern) in their place to healthy things.

But the most insecure want it all gone, because then there is definately not a problem.
But this is just unhealthy phobias, ocd slavery. So it makes me wonder if most of
the HG group are actually driven by this ocd emotional desire, which is probably a medical
condition, rather than anything from the Lord or even admirable.

For the ocd here

Fear - needed when crossing a road, being near an edge of large drop, dealing with
dangerous machinary, driving a car.
His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation.
Luke 1:10

Anger - needed when real threats occur, when large amounts of energy are needed
to put things right.
“In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry
eph 4:26

Worry(concern) - when known issues need to be addressed by carefully working
things through to get to the right conclusion.
See what this godly sorrow has produced in you: what earnestness, what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what alarm, what longing, what concern, what readiness to see justice done.

How can one go from a simple question about a living relationship with Christ lead to
condemnation of believers?

Lying continually is such a bad thing. Living relationships can die, they are reliant
on giving and receiving.

But I would suggest you do not know what relationships really are which is why you
have no problem lying and abusing the Lords word and His people.

This is the fruit of a seed not from God. But liars do not listen or care for the truth.

It is why until all lies are excluded from the heart, you cannot spot how easily one
is deceived and deluded. But once you start calling innocents evil, you know the
emotion has taken captive your soul and you are no longer walking in the Spirit.

Why should we worry? HE told us not to
Now this is an interesting point. Did Jesus say do not worry about your life,
what you will eat or drink, what you will wear or just do not worry?

People need to be concerned or careful about what they do. The problem
is knowing the boundary between over concern and what is appropriate.
It comes from experience.

I am sure you knew this, which is why answering it probably pointless.
But then this discussion with HG followers is just picking disputes, not wanting answers.

What is the difference between a real point, truth and a lie?

It comes down to what you are actually wanting to achieve.
I am always wanting to achieve a better understanding and knowledge with which to
move forward in the Lord. It is what drives me.

I have noticed others are actually just intent on slander, lying and undermines the "status"
or reliability of others.

It is an interesting approach, because in the Lord it is pointless and speaks more about their
lostness than faith.

We are here to suggest points to each other and grow in thought word and deed. A point
is useful for each of us to build us up into mature men and women of God. There is no heirarchy
or I am better than you, just growth of our hearts, and openning up or more situations and
ministries where we can help.

But then this discussion with HG followers is just picking disputes, not wanting answers.
so the " hyper grace " crowd ( of which I am not part of ) just picks disputes, and you have " answers ". o.k. , thanks for clarifying that!!

this is a Bible discussion forum, not a q and a. and there are 100% better " answers " than yours.

gb9 - I was asked a question so I answered it. That is what happened.
I then am pointing out the question was probably rhetorical so did not want a reply and what
I actually felt was irrelevant, it was probably just a put down.

You confirmed your spirit in all of this, which has been clear and antagonistic from the beginning.
As I was not replying to you, why did you even respond as if I was saying you were HG, or
did not mistake the post was about you?
