I grew up on an Indian reservation and there is a high instance of alcoholism among natives. They say it's because the Indian tribes not having alcohol before white man came makes them susceptible to alcoholism. I disagree...I think no hope makes people susceptible to alcoholism...or any other addiction for that matter.

And for the record, that Pollyanna chick was really a hurtful person and I'm glad she is gone.

Also, you kept saying, if it is not a sin, why does Scripture say... so you were clearly coming out on the side of saying drinking is a sin and now you want to pretend you did not even do that? Who do you think you are fooling?

It seems some of us need to read the commandments again, for we have
obviously missed the "Thou shalt not drink" command which makes drinking a sin.

Where did I say you were forcing abstinence? Why can you not respond to what I actually say? Look, I did not accuse you of the things you are accusing me of accusing you of. Get real. All along, I have said, IF you do or say this, then you are doing or saying that. If you (general you) say it is a sin to drink, you call Jesus a sinner. If you say it is a sin to overindulge, then you accuse Jesus of encouraging such. Meanwhile I tell you I stand on the side of abstinence and you respond by tell me to drink myself stupid if I want, and go on as if you totally missed that I am clean and sober even after months of talking to you about recovery. Yeah, bye to you.
Guess it's okay to binge eat too, then. And guess it's okay to drink yourself to the point where you're close to dying of alcohol poisoning. Jesus didn't sin. He also never allowed those folks to drink to where they were going to die. I did answer your answer question. you're the one that bypassed alcohol poisoning. If it's okay to binge drink, then such thing wouldn't exist. But wait. You said I had told you to go "drink yourself stupid." If over drinking wasn't such a thing, then you wouldn't be "drinking yourself stupid." Your contracting yourself. Drinking in excess can lead to many diseases (not addiction) as well as alcohol poisoning ad death. Folks can choose what they want to do.But the facts are the facts. you have common sense. Use it.

I think people want other people to join them in their little box of how they see the world and how others should behave. The worst kind use religion to force people to think like them. The way I understand Jesus is that He is patient and kind and doesn't force himself on people. He invites us to think like he does and yet comes down to our level with a relationship in mind that continues to grow. The point of a relationship is on the journey. Jumping to conclusions about someone else's relationship with the Father is what unstable people do.

I never said over drinking was not a thing. You just can't help yourself, you must make things up and try to stick them on me.

You had had asked me if it was a sin. Then asked if Jesus was a sinner since He provided more alcohol to those that were drunk. So yes. You did.

If it was a sin to drink too much at any time, then Jesus encouraged people to sin at the wedding feast of Cana. There is simply no getting around that. Just as there is no getting around that if you say it is a sin to drink, then you are calling Jesus Christ a sinner.
This what I have said and what people refuse to address. They would rather pretend I said things I didn't, while ignoring what I do say. Not to mention pretending they didn't say things they actually did! The antics never cease.

You repeatedly clearly came out on the side of saying drinking was a sin and then pretended you said no such thing. We are done.

You say over drinking is a thing but here say drinking too much is not a sin. How is that not contradictory?

The better question is how does one know their tolerance level/point of getting crazy drunk......? Unless they have had multiple drinks several times and find out their "limit point".....this is a very gray area indeed and depends upon the person....some people get tipsy with 1-2 drinks, some it takes 6-8.....I think each person should set their own standard as to how their body responds to alcohol.....all the verse throwing in the world doesn't change the fact that it depends on the person's body reaction to certain levels of alcohol....

the op is not about confronting sin

I'm still, (stupid me) trying to actually discuss the ACTUAL op

isn't that ironic?

I gave up on that a long time ago. No one is listening. I think everyone has their fingers in their ears going lallalalal .

If you went back in the earlier pages you would see that I didn't. But you choose not to do such thing. You're not practicing what you're telling others to do.

Some people do have a genetic intolerance to it. Look up the genetics of alcohol dehydrogenase :)

If you wanna know what a sin is....anxiety is a sin, depression is a sin. A man who says, I'm bob and I'm an alcoholic and I can never drink again is missing the opportunity to discover what makes him medicate himself in the first place. I used to be that guy. Went thru treatment for it when I was 15. I don't need to self medicate anymore....and I can have one and be done...and do that occasionally. But if someone else cannot, I respect that. I'm not you and you're not me. I've been lucky to have some really great people to help me peel back the onion to the core of why I used to hurt so bad.

Yeah. It bothers me when people refuse to look at what someone initially said. It causes me to lash out and have the "eye for an eye" mentality. It didn't do any good. I know. But ultimately just try to learn from it and move on. Anger is one of the things I'm in CR for. Gotta learn better to recognize triggers.
