Another continuation of the "naming" trend taking over this part of the forum.

1/ Do you like to give and receive nicknames?

2/ What have been some of the best and worst nicknames that have been given to you by people? (Some context would help us understand)

----

1/ I receive nicknames only from people with whom I share an emotional connection. It puzzles me but when I give someone a nickname (often, only my gf), I usually come up with food names! And that too, only desserts, though I am picky when it comes to desserts!

2/ Most of my friends (CC and real) call me Ro, Roh, or some variations of it. Other than that, I have been called some mushy nicknames by my exes (when I dated them!) but nobody else has mustered the courage to name this wild horse!

The worst nickname someone gave me was Rohi. I'll tell you why - The native pronunciation of Rohi is "Rogi", which means "a patient". I cringed every time that person called me Rohi.

You can give me a nickname if you want, but I won't answer to it. Have fun. :p

I've had a few nicknames over the years. Some of which I have liked for one reason or another.

A lot of people simply call me by my last name "Judge". In a Sammy Davis Jr. - Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In "Here come da Judge" type of manner.

The most recent nickname I earned is "Monday". I had to ask why Monday and I was told "You're like a Monday Jon...nobody likes Mondays". I think I was supposed to be upset to find out others didn't like me and that the nickname was meant as a reminder of my social status in the "pack", but I actually liked the nickname, so I've carried it.

My nickname Fenner is a nickname people I've known since I was born call me. My Brother couldn't say Jennifer when he said it it sounded like Fenner.

I was doing temp temp jobs for a while and ended up working at place where I sorted baseball cards. It was the weirdest place I've ever worked. I was 21 and there was a guy there of a different race who took a liking to me, like weird obsessive liking. At first he said, I love your dark hair, then it was I love your white skin, then he started calling me Snow White. So he and his friends called me Snow White, and even when I told them to stop. There's nothing wrong with Snow White but they were creepy. I called the temp agency and said get me a new job, and they did. That was wacky.

I don't really mind nicknames as long as they're just variations of my name.

I've been called the following: Abi, gail, abby, abs, ab, abster, abing, abiding (LOL on this one, usually old people call me this in chat), and abe xD

What's so bad about that? The Bible says love is patient. Okay, I'll leave now.

Take another look, Jim.

I guess our lil' Rohi just doesn't like nicknames that hit too close to home.

Ive had a bunch of nicknames actually : p

Some were nice, and some were really mean. I wont share the mean ones : p

My older brother calls me "Bo". He has always called me that. Hes also the only one allowed to call me that, he wont even let his his daughter call me it : p He has called me Bo, Bo-jo and even Bo-to-the-Bo-Jo.

I dunno why he calls me that : p But hes always done it, haha.

My mom often calls me Boo. I like that name, too, despite being 28 years old : p I also am known by the name "Shoobie" with a select few people for certain reasons. There are some people who call me Jess, which I guess qualifies as a nick name. Or an alternative name, I guess, dunno what to call it.

Also, when I was a child my family didnt call me by my first name, but instead by my first and middle initials. For some reason though, I felt left out by this as a child. I guess I took it personally, cuz a kid from the neighborhood once came up to me and asked what my name was, and I told him "I dont have a name, I just have letters". So my family stopped calling me it.
I regret that now, though : p Its actually a really cool nickname, and I dont even like my first name anyway : p Oh well, nothing can be done about it now : p

I seem to be immune to nicknames. It might be the look I give people when they try calling me something they think is cute.

I call most of the men I work with solely by their last name.

You mean, you give them such a cute look that they go "Awww" and forget the nickname they wanted to give you?

Gotcha.

Well there may be some truth to the idea that one look and they're under my spell and will do what I want. I'm not so sure that its the power of cuteness though. There are other more reactive forces at work.

I used to be called Haus. I thought they were saying Hoss, like 'Horse', but they spelled it Haus, as in German for house. Big as a house, I suppose.

I have had several nicknames in my life none of them I liked. My stepdad who was not a nice person called me captain as to why I have no idea but I hated it. in Highschool my nickname was Mclovin from the movie superbad not because I looked him but because i was shamefully funny in ways that haunt me to this day when I remember and then my friend mockingly called me prophet and I really hated that as I didn't consider myself a prophet and I also did not feel worthy of such a title and the fact he used it mockingly made it all the more worse
