The state I’m from (Colorado) used to be a hardcore red state. More and more urban sprawl has led to an ever increasing shift towards it being full on blue. Texas is no different. Dense urban areas usually produce more people who depend more on government, while people in the country are typically more self-sufficient and like to be left alone.
Compound this with a mass influx of illegal immigration and you get an even bigger number of people who now sway towards left wing agendas. This is happening nationwide and is not simply confined to Texas only. The continued growth of big cities and illegal immigrants requiring assistance, will only serve to increase the number of future left wing voters.
The main issues like gay marriage, abortion, religious freedom, gun rights, ID card voting, etc, are typically viewed differently from a majority in big cities vs the majority in the country. Bottom line is that cities continue to grow while the country areas shrink. At this rate I wouldn’t be surprised to see Texas become blue in less than ten years.
It is no secret that the majority of Christians tend to vote conservative. The continuing moral and religious decline is testimony to the current path we have been following for a while now. Since Christianity has been on the decline in America, left wing ideology has been on the uptick. I believe this will continue unless or until Christianity has another resurgence.
