Guys... Seriously. I am so tired of hearing about how Harry Potter is evil because it is about witchcraft. First of all real witchcraft could not be any farther from what happens in the Harry Potter universe, other than the label "witch."

Harry Potter: A fantasy that is fun for all ages, with an ingenious plot and characters we care about.
Real witchcraft: A pointless ritual that does nothing of any importance to anyone, but which at one point in history was perceived as a problem because people were superstitious back then.

I ask you: Are we superstitious now? Are we fools who lack the intellectual capacity to grasp the fact that Harry Potter has absolutely no capacity for demonic influence on anyone who is sane? Come on, people. Some of you guys are ridiculous.
I don't believe that witchcraft has any real physical power either however, Harry Potter is indeed a fantasy and one the corrodes the minds of young and impressionable people alike to believe that maybe, just maybe, Satan does indeed have some sort of physical power.

You see, before I was ever a writer or a christian, I was an impressionable young man looking for answers. Answers to questions like "Why are there so many different gods and religions?" and "Why are the simularities and what do they mean?" These questions took me down a long, dark and lonely journey that fortunately lead me back to Jesus Christ but not before I researched and or studied various different pagan religions in the process. Praise God, in His infinite goodness He saw fit to lead me back into His loving arms but many MANY more out with stories simular to mine that end up with a tragic ending. And all starts with a so called innocent little story or movie like Harry Potter at a young at age....

As for the game of chess, it's a game, at most a distraction. I personally feel that the only real danger in chess is spending way too much of your time either playing or studying how to win instead of praying and studying your Bible. In that case chess has become an idol. Other than this, I don't have a problem playing the occassional game of chess just as long as it in all in good fun.

I have always felt that snakes and ladders is relatively peaceful.
what about the game shoots and ladders... It has the words shoots in it, Its an action word describing what type of harm you want to inflict on the other person. You could possibly even use the ladder to step on and shoot someone with, so there for concluding that ladders is not peaceful. and the game shoots and ladders is in the axis of evil.

Guys... we have to take this seriously. It's nothing to joke about. Chess is a board game like Ouija, and can therefore be a channel for demonic spirits. It may all be fun and games now, but I have friends who traveled down a dark, lonely road because of their nonchalant attitude towards chess. They are all drug addicts or satan worshipers now. Luckily, I got out of that spiral of chaos and spiritual decay and found the Lord. I will always remember how Jesus saved me from chess.

Define sane... *lol*

Please keep in mind that "God chooses to use the foolish in order to dumbfound the wise." A lot of christians have been through some pretty traumatic experiences which have helped lead them to Christ. Think about it, those who appear to be the most sincere in their salvation are those who have been already been "broken" and seem to understand that without God, this life has little else to offer.

In comparison, there are those who were raised in church. Most (not all but many) have absolutely no idea what it truly means to be broken thus church is nothing more than just another place to socialize and christianty is nothing more than another religion. Most tend to run from God just as soon as they are old enough to move out from underneath their parents' wing, at least for a while, until they are mature enough or have been through a trauma in order to understand what Christianity is truly about.

Check out and compare the lives of King David and his son Solomon. No one even knows for sure if Solomon, in his old age, ever repented of his wicked ways.

I can understand what you are saying. An obsession of any kind can lead one down the wrong path.

I remember when I was younger I used to love the Highlander movies / tv shows. I still have my black leather trench coat and my sword collection. I never thought much about it until the Colombine school shootings. That's when friends and family starting at me a little differently, wondering if I may be on my way to hurting someone. To be totally honest with you, looking back, they had a legitimate reason to worry.

I can see how chess in combination with other things could lead someone down down a dark path. Just check out how many "cliques" out there use chess pieces as a part of their group emblem.
