Maybe she heard of those weird stories about kids with untied shoelaces getting sucked into the escalator and never appearing again .....true story though one of my cousins when they were 4yo was a kid with adhd and being crazy rambunctious decided to run on the escalator....too bad his shoelace was undone and the escalator started to wrangle him in....luckily my parents saved him and all he lost was a shoelace b/c the shoe was too big for the escalator grilles lol.....I really don't like him so sometimes I think damn it escalator why did you not just suck him in? I'm kidding but he probably did deserve what he got being an annoying brat back then.....
I ask because I've observed people (including me) who are afraid of heights have this tendency to fear the escalator as well.

Hmm evidently this is pretty common occurence b/c so many people are getting sucked into elevators...just google "person sucked into escalator" and a bunch of stories including shoelaces ones pop up....
When I was little I was horsing around on one - I think riding on the handrail when my dad told me some guy was sucked under those grates at the top and hamburger meat came out the bottom only it had brain bits in it.
I've been quite the little adult since then.

I don't like heights but I kind of like escalators....especially the weird feeling you get when you get off of it and like a sort of jump inside you lol like you're falling but not...i know weird description but best I can describe it

I don't know but those grilles on the steps ( idk what they are called but you know the grates on the step thing lol)....remind me of a hair cutting buzzer weird but the lines remind me of one.....
Yea I could see how it could look like a meat grinder with those teethed grate steps but oddly enough a repairman in china was sucked into one and killed in a mall in China....so I guess it does happen usually if the person can't get whatever is tied in the escalator whether shoe, pant, dress off in time they usually get strangled (esp toddlers) or a broken limb..... most people say if you have your shoe lace stuck to either jump out of your shoe or pull your shoe the opposite way to break the shoelace so you can get free.....
She says she is but she'll ride some of the scariest rides at an amusement park.
Eeks , scared straight right there! My sister got her shoelace stuck on one when she was a kid. They had to stop it and get it out.

I wonder what would happen in a mall if someone did this...probably 90% of people would just stand around and stare and pull out their camera phone even while their next to the emergency stop button on the escalator.....like the guy who got mugged and killed and was left on the sidewalk for 10 hours in NY while people took pictures or stepped over him like no big deal.....we have lost our humanity I guess....via technology/constant input from electronic devices/media....

I'm afraid of heights too. I recently visited a friend in her new apartment. She lives in the third floor. I was really scared climbing those stairs. I thought I was going to fall!

Meatball! Meatball! Meatball! Their meatball subs are awesome, I can take a whole 12 inch down there so good mmmhmmm....
Escalators are so dangerous. People should really avoid them if they can. Kids have had their toes ripped off and some adults have fallen through loose panels or steps and got eaten alive by the mechanism inside which is like a meat grinder.
One woman in China fell in one at a big shopping mall because workers didn't properly secure a panel after they got done and it took 3 hours to recover her body. Another woman who was standing near her tried to pull her up right after she fell but the machine got hold of her and literally yanked her down into it. She was able to hand her baby boy to one of the women who tried to help but in just a second or two she got yanked into the machine and there's video of it on youtube because it was all over the news. I think it was last year. I'd post a link but it's very graphic.
