I'm in favor of "decriminalization" myself, which is mediating between resurrection's and Dude's positions.
Marijuana would still be technically illegal, but the penalties would be reduced. Its use would be treated more like a vehicle violation.
Not only that, but it would reduce the incarceration rate for offenders. I'm not a "bleeding-heart", but I do believe in limited government and I feel there should be fewer laws and fewer ways to put people behind bars.
Hard prison time should be reserved for things such as drug trafficking, sex trafficking, arson, rape, murder, aggravated sexual assault, robbery, burglary, etc.
The major flaw in our justice system (and this goes well beyond drugs) is that people either get slapped on the wrists, or they get their entire arms chopped off (figuratively). Hardly any in-betweens
Now with all that said, I don't care to use marijuana due to my personal convictions. If I went against my own conscience, I would be sinning.
