I personally feel this way about the whole "no sex before marriage" case. All people are different, and have different emotional, sexual, and other needs. Saying that it is only healthy and pious to remain abstinent until marriage, or keep only one sexual partner is saying that all people have the same exact sexual needs. There are some women and men, often times termed with insulting names such as "slut," who require multiple sexual partners to find their healthy equilibrium. That's why the swinger's movement was such a hit. Have you all ever heard of the husband who has a much smaller sexual appetite than his wife, and allows her to whet her appetite with other men? She is for the better and he adapts. This is one example of a healthy sexual relationship. There are also many folks who are only comfortable with monogamy. If that is you, then all power to you! Find that special someone, and share life with them. However, I ask that you be true to yourselves, and if you require more than one person to make you happy, do what you can to lead a fulfilling sexual life.
Also, it is important to consider the fact that many people have one night stands and feel ashamed. This is from the lack of a healthy sexual education and mindset. If we were taught that sex was a healthy act, and it is when practiced responsibly, people might just take responsibility for their sexual partners, and whether they are having safer sex or not. I personally have had many great one night stands, and feel rejuvenated, both psychologically and physically.
Lastly, the inevitable argument from Christians on the issue is whether, according to God's law, pre-marital sex is a sin. It is my feeling that God has many more concerns than a couple mammals slapping skin, so to speak. If the Creator gave us the gift of sex, then why would he stipulate its use? I feel that having great sex is one of the highest, holiest acts we can experience. I feel that having a great sexual encounter, without any sort of physical or mental abuse from either side, is the greatest way to honor Him.
Again, this was my own personal opinion. I am sure I have greatly offended some, but it will all be worth it if someone feels better about their lives from my words. Oh, and to address the Bible issue, I feel the Bible was written by men. And men are completely fallible, because they have their own agendas. In fact, you can see examples of this throughout history. Why are Catholic priests forbidden to marry? This is because when they would marry and have sons, their offspring would sometimes take up other careers, inherit their father's land, and commit it to another path than the Church. And, as we all know, no organization, be it governmental, corporate, or religious would like to see a loss of resources. Amen.
