My dear, if this offends you then that is your choice. The people in Jesus times were IDENTICAL to the people in our time. The bible is the timeless word of God our instruction in life. Choose to accept it or choose to reject it but to state that its no longer relevant would be only because you choose to live life in rejection to what you have been convicted of within its pages. The Holy Spirit within convicts us when we are acting contrary to Gods will. We have the Bible to know God, we have the Holy Spirit to convict & remind us of Gods will in our life. We can justify our behavior by saying these are modern times but sexual desire is the same now as its ever been. Oh btw I dont stand in judgement of you personally as I lived with my husband & said the exact same words you've said in the past, I'm correcting you in your inaccurate statement that the bible is no longer relevant. Marriage is a contract between you, your spouse & God... you say you are commited I believe you & thats between you, your bf & God, but the relevance of Gods word... well that is Absolute.

AMEN !

I personally feel this way about the whole "no sex before marriage" case. All people are different, and have different emotional, sexual, and other needs. Saying that it is only healthy and pious to remain abstinent until marriage, or keep only one sexual partner is saying that all people have the same exact sexual needs. There are some women and men, often times termed with insulting names such as "slut," who require multiple sexual partners to find their healthy equilibrium. That's why the swinger's movement was such a hit. Have you all ever heard of the husband who has a much smaller sexual appetite than his wife, and allows her to whet her appetite with other men? She is for the better and he adapts. This is one example of a healthy sexual relationship. There are also many folks who are only comfortable with monogamy. If that is you, then all power to you! Find that special someone, and share life with them. However, I ask that you be true to yourselves, and if you require more than one person to make you happy, do what you can to lead a fulfilling sexual life.

Also, it is important to consider the fact that many people have one night stands and feel ashamed. This is from the lack of a healthy sexual education and mindset. If we were taught that sex was a healthy act, and it is when practiced responsibly, people might just take responsibility for their sexual partners, and whether they are having safer sex or not. I personally have had many great one night stands, and feel rejuvenated, both psychologically and physically.

Lastly, the inevitable argument from Christians on the issue is whether, according to God's law, pre-marital sex is a sin. It is my feeling that God has many more concerns than a couple mammals slapping skin, so to speak. If the Creator gave us the gift of sex, then why would he stipulate its use? I feel that having great sex is one of the highest, holiest acts we can experience. I feel that having a great sexual encounter, without any sort of physical or mental abuse from either side, is the greatest way to honor Him.

Again, this was my own personal opinion. I am sure I have greatly offended some, but it will all be worth it if someone feels better about their lives from my words. Oh, and to address the Bible issue, I feel the Bible was written by men. And men are completely fallible, because they have their own agendas. In fact, you can see examples of this throughout history. Why are Catholic priests forbidden to marry? This is because when they would marry and have sons, their offspring would sometimes take up other careers, inherit their father's land, and commit it to another path than the Church. And, as we all know, no organization, be it governmental, corporate, or religious would like to see a loss of resources. Amen.

When you do something that makes you feel better or others are supporting you in what you are doing, it still is wrong and a sin.

this forum, as often, makes me want to forget about christianity, all the responses except for one persons, have been complete nonsense. there are intelligent christian groups out there and the people in here aren't amongst them. i'm sorry but saying people in jesus' time are identical to people of today is borderline insanity. there are 2 kinds of christians, those that live in reality, and those that take the bible as absolutes. nobody in the religious studies field, even the hardcore educated diehard christians, think that the bible is a literal work. get over yourselves, take responsibility for yourself, and grow up. this will be my last post here, as i would like to continue to have an open mind, and that isn't a possibility here.

I understand this is the age of information. In a Q&A session with Dr Ravi Zacharias, on question "Jonah in the whales mouth" addresses more or less a similar issue you are bringing up. There is a link in yourtube....unfortunately youtubes is playing server dead on me right now. will post the link here once it starts working.

Katiepea, not everyone can or has the time or make it a career to be a scholar like you. Nor is everyone a maniac for logic. You know evidences covers the field of archeology, astronomy, philosophy, social science, history, space time and continuum, biological and a few others i'm not aware of. who can master all this? Just what do you expect from the majority of Christians? really..... MR Logical.

I answered poll. Can I has da sex now?

Ok, ya, having been a total moron in the distant past; I cannot say this with any more clarity and assurance: Sex before marriage is empty and devoid of love!

If you aren't married and you have sex, you might as well just classify it as a bodily function; because, that's all it is, nothing more.

So, do explain to me, exactly how we've evolved if we are not identical to people of Jesus' time? Oh the arrogance of one who would find himself to be evolved beyond Christ. Shame on you. You seek to validate some sinful practice you have in your life? The Bible is the word of God & you need to "get over" your sinful self & figure out where you stand in the body of Christ if in fact you are a Christian. Tough words to read? They should be.

I don't think he's talking about Christ himself, but how the people were back then compared to what we're like today. we're much more independent, we're taught to be more critical, our knowledge of the world is increased, our society is not built on the rules of the bible alone etc.

living by the laws of the bible will not necessarily get you saved. not following every single one of them wont send you to hell. believing in jesus as your savior is all that matters. that's my honest opinion.

some people in here make it sound like the ONLY way to have a good and healthy marriage is if you've never slept with anyone before your wedding night. I've heard about people that got divorced because they couldn't work together sexually.

and katiepea, you want to forget about christianity because of the way other christians interpret the bible? doesn't make sense man.

I do agree with what you are saying. But, you also have to keep in mine that living in sin when you know it is wrong, will lead you to hell. There is a difference between messing up and living in habitual sin. As for your marriage statement, I find it ridiculous that a mariage would rely on sex in order to keep them together. Love is a choice, not a bunch of emotions. If you aren't ready to make that commitment, than don't get married.

no, people are absolutely the same... Body Chemistry, their brains... its all the same now as it was back then. Socially we may consider ourselves superior or evolved but are we really? I'm talking about the people who we are, the individuals... not our trappings... The things in our life that cause some of us to feel we are somehow more advanced than the people in Jesus' time. The Bible is full of stories of struggles of yesteryear that are identical to struggles of now. This is a thread on sex before marriage... sexually people are identical now as they were back then. Only difference is now, we've somehow slowly but surely come to a place where most any fornication or sexual act is acceptable. Satan is truly loving this age. Oh & i dont say this sitting on my high horse thinking I'm better than everone else for I was a thief, a murderer a fornicator washed clean by my Lord & Savior.

I dunno what happen here in this post, but I just read one reply and I don't find it quite agreeable. It's true the sexual needs of people in the modern days are like the time in the olden days. Yes, there are gays and lesbians back then, and yes there are definitely whores and sluts. But whichever time we are living, let's follow the way of the Christ. For those who have fallen, rise up again, take up your cross and walk after Him. Don't give up, make excuses just because you were sidetracked. The Lord forgives all no matter how big or small the sins are. I do think the bible is the answer to all. Refer back to it when in doubt and pray.

OK I never dreamed one simple question would cause such friction..lol however you all have strong ideas and standards on what marriage means to you. Now every one take a breath and show me where in the Bible is a marriage based on The Laws of Contracts or Licenses. The best I can read and understand (then as well as now) They TOOK THEM as their wives. Or in todays languge They Had Sex with them and they were from that point on ONE. Am I wrong? Missing somthing? I do love my girlfriend and plan to marry, but would it be a sin if we slept together prior to the Licenses being written and sighned by a None Beliveing Judge?

I think your right.... The bible is very clear on this, and for good reasons. Having sex before your married ruins a relationship, and it causes undue stress. Once you pass that physical boundary and actually have sex, everything is different. Its no longer about you and your boyfriend or girlfriend its about sex, and you certainly cant base a healthy relationship on that.

sorry i just wanted to say i like your user name Samiam it reminds me of dr.suess books!

If you have sex before marriage it is fornication and is a sin.The reason that 2 people married are not sinning having sex is because they become one. When you are not married you are 2 individuals and sex is a sin.

The only way for a person to remarry is if one of the persons cheat on their spouse or one of them dies.
Anybody that marries and their spouse has had a former marriage and their spouse did not cheat or die then both of them are committing adultry.

Matt

if you say that you are Christian then the moment you slept with your fiance you are both one anything after that is an adultery
